Basically the zen'in clan is one of the strongest clans (if not the strongest) in which everyone uses cursed techniques or cursed tools, however since maki and toji didnt have any cursed energy they didnt care much for them thats why maki has the hatred towards the clan and why toji left the clan and changed his last name to fushiguro, (some manga spoilers if you dont want them dont read past this point:in manga maki went over to the zenin clan and i wonf say more, you gotta wait for season 3)

The Zenin clan values strong cursed techniques over everything. Both Toji and Maki were born with a heavenly restriction that reduced their cursed energy to zero. Even regular people have some level of cursed energy but they just don't know how to use it. Because they have no cursed energy they were both abused by the clan and both left at some point. Toji's wiife ended up dying leaving Toji in a depressive state where he thought he was unable to take care of his son. So he decided to sell megumi to the clan because he could sense that megumi was talented so he wouldn't be abused if he went to the clan.

In my opinion there is no good or bad or evil character in JJK. All about ideology.(Sukuna and Gojo) ideology is almost the same, that's why they are the strongest and pinnacle of JJK.

The Zenin clan looks down on anyone with "useless" or "weak" abilities. Maki and Toji both were discriminated against in Tojis case tortured for having no cursed energy, and in Maki and her sisters, forced to be servants. They're grade A asshats who if Megumi would have went with his sister would have been forced into servitude under then men of the family

The zenin treated Toji horribly due to his lack of ce. Thrown into a pit of monsters he couldn’t even see, abused, I can see why Toji wouldn’t want megumi to be in the care of that family.

When Toji was born in Zenin clan he was born with heavenly restriction (that noone has control over and its pretty much random if you get it or not) that exchanged his cursed energy into physical prowess. And because he had no cursed energy he was looked down upon by zenin clan cuz they are too self centered to understand that toji was not weak at all (they thought back then that having no cursed energy is weakness). Also the scar on his mouth was actually caused by zenin clan, they threw him into the pit with cursed spirits when he still was a kid, they didnt care if he came out alive but he did with a scar. Toji was just a bad father and he even admits it that when he sells his son to zenin clan (that he had left when he met megumis mom and he changed his name from zenin to fushiguro to finally leave it behind), he just thought that it would be better for megumi (if megumi was born with inherited technique from zenin clan he would be treated with respect, at least thats what toji thought at first) but he realised its a mistake when he dies to gojo and asks him for a favour
