totally understand, I feel like I constantly see the same romance options listed on more than half of booktube

omg welcome home! the only time I really enjoy romance is if it's.....a subplot hahaha. in a fantasy, or a sci-fi, or lit fic or whatever. there has to be *something* else going on - even like how in The Time Traveler's Wife, the main thing going on is, you know, the time travel. what do you usually read?

@@mckennalovescontent I totally agree. It's not that I don't enjoy "love" and people finding each other as a concept, but it can't be the only thing going on. Plus, a lot of romance novels I feel like the love interest isn't even good. Let alone romantic. I usually read sci-fi, historical fiction, lit fic, some memoirs, and psychological thrillers. Some of my favorite books are The Princess Bride, The Hailmary Project, Children of Time, The Memory Police, A Walk in the Woods, and I'm Glad My Mom Died.

Ok good because I really do enjoy talking out of my ass. I'm a true yapper. And I've kind of resigned myself to the fact that my TBR will be out of control likely for the rest of my life, but it doesn't stop me from buying more books hahaha

@@mckennalovescontent hahaha yeah I totally get that. You're near that point of no return with how many books you got! Unless you start reading a book a day and fly through em! Idk if you have Goodreads or the like, but I just joined a book app called Fable. It seems neat and has bookclub stuff on there you can join/make and also it tells you what kind of book person you are with a reader summary. Like mine says after 22 books - "Gritty Space Cadet: You're so deep in sci-fi warzones and power struggles, I wonder if you'd recognize a happy ending if it stared you in the face!" It's nothing crazy, just kind of fun. It updates after each book you read too.

​ @mckennalovescontent I fellow woman of culture I see hahaha 🙌 And I get it about scripts, while they do help in some situations like when you want to inform facts or make sure you have everything you want it said said, I find when a youtuber - specially one that is talking about their hobbies - emulate that feeling of people having casual conversations is that much more enriching for people wanting to find another book! After all, friends who have similar hobbies as us tend to be the first people we go to for book recs, so booktube/tok is basically a circle of likeminded friendly people sharing the love for books 😊 (And I also like to see other people with as gigantic a TBR as mine, I feel seen and validated, tyty 😆) I'm from Brazil! While I tend to buy portuguese translated books, I love to see what's new since some books never get translated here and they're usually pretty pricy when importing from amazon, thank the gods kindle is a cheaper option 🤣

you're totally right, I want this whole channel to be like a best friends hang out, and scripts can be used for certain things but I don't need to do it all the time how much does amazon charge for sending books down there??? ahhhhh I want to visit Brazil so badly! my whole family went down there like 10 years ago, I was supposed to go but I got sick and had to cancel my flights :( but I want to come explore south america whenever I can!!

​@@mckennalovescontent I haven't been here for too long but by all the videos I've watched I can say you're doing an amazing job on that front, I love the way you communicate your thoughts and I honestly think it's only a matter of time until the community grows more and more! :D About the charging, I'll use an exemple of a book that is on my TBR and it doesn't have a translation to brazilian portuguese and convert the brazilian real to american dollars! The books is called The Spear Cuts Through Water. The kindle version is roughly 4 american dollars, the paperback is 16 bucks and the hardcover is (and I kid you not) a wopping 252 bucks lol I don't know if they dig the book on a gold mine and it comes with special golden paper, but it's really expensive, to a point that that ammount is the equivalent of one month's sallary for a lot of people here. Now, this doesn't apply to all imported books, but the variations in price are terrible and I legit think the best way is to either go for a kindle version or try your luck second hand, but a lot of people here don't speak english or is not accostumed to read books in english, so it's rough lol Oh nooo, I'm sorry you couldn't visit at the time!! 😭😭 If you ever get the chance again I think you would love it here! Not only we have amazing landscapes in the rural areas, the urban ones are also very diverse! Brazil and our hermanos in south america are honestly a mix of so many cultures that there's a taste for everyone hahaha

I kind of feel like I should figure out a book club-type situation before august so we can all read A Mask of Flies together... @@mckennalovescontent It's just a soft cover version of Firefly: Coup de Grace, the 8th book based on the Firefly TV series. The hardcover came out already, but I've been getting the paperbacks because I like reading paperbacks better.

paperback > hardcovers any day, I wait sometimes buttttt.....sometimes I'm too excited to wait the extra year for the paperback haha. hopefully yours doesn't get pushed even further...

@@mckennalovescontent Yeah, the only reason I didn't buy the hardcover is because it wont look as nice on my shelf with the rest of the books in the series. I have other stuff to read until it comes out, so I'm not too worried.

I have been buying books at a break-neck speed the past 18 months, so at this point there are so, so many books on my shelves that are unread hahaha. But that doesn't stop me from continuing to buy more!

So I’m going to “try” to last at least until August. We have a few ren fairies, Denver’s version of comic con, and a friend’s trip in June and July and I want to save up a little beforehand 😅
