Thanks for sharing Fred. Well Done Shan!!! Better to take the smaller one than to leave it motherless IMO. Yeah the back issue is a bugger it rocked my confidence a bit but getting going after surgery while being sensible is the key you’ll be back into it - you have a great attitude I went on a wap trip to George river 4 months after my op. In hindsight wasn’t my best move but proved I wasn’t a cot case I’m still out there aged 62 25 years later and training another deer dog and back is better than ever you just have to ignore the pain and keep going it comes right in time Good luck for the op mate I’m sure you will do just fine When you’re up to it I’d like to hook up for a hunt - 2 old crocks in the bush the creaking of our joints will spook the bastards!!!

Ha, yea for sure... ,getting peed off waiting for insurance company,, they taking there time, cutting it fine with surgury dates looming. hey I did a trip into the top of George river few years ago, great place,, , Thanks for watching👍.

Great trip there Fred & Shan. Pulled off a good first deer shot. Every trip is a learning experience, taking in more information for the next time! Hoping and praying your back surgery gets done soon Fred! Got to take very good care of yourself with that back & sciatica pain. Hope you can keep us up to date with your progress. Cheers

It can be pretty challenging when the back pain dictates what you can and cannot do and yours sounds pretty serious. It’s good that you’ve got good fitness and that will help in your recovery.

@@stevegarland9063 Thanks Steve, once the pain killers set in it felt good lol, but they just mask the problem, I was really looking forward to a bush stalk that day , but with my back and weather supposedly about to change we opted to just come out. , will be back though, thanks again for watching and commenting😁

@@craigedkins Yea im wrapped , been waiting for him to grow to fit the gun, , anybody can shoot lying down or resting on something, standing shots take a bit more training, but a must have skill for bush hunting aye.

I was out there in urewera’s pig hunting one night, set up my tent for the night and about 2:30am all 4 of my dogs started to bark and growl they formed a circle around me to protect me. Latest about 20mins then they calmed down. Scared the shit out of me and I gapped it next morning.

Thats an interesting incident, I was camping in the Urutawa one night ,heard the billy next to the fire make a noise, looked out the tent cause I thought it was a opossum , all around the tent was smoke from the fire, and saw a white ass disappear, next morning saw deer tracks in the frost next to the billy, lol, deer had walked past the dogs that were tied up to trees, through the smoke right up to the fire by our tent, I reckon that deer had never seen humans or dogs. Its not a game park mate., if I see a young one with its mum then I leave her, but if I see no young one then its a different story.

I can tell you 100% the manager of that block doesn't give a shit what they are. The numbers are out of control and any deer on the ground is good in his opinion. Fred is one of the lucky ones, as am I, that he trusts to help control them.

It's a magic spot alright Fred. I won't be back there until September unfortunately. If the spot where Shan shot his deer is where I think it is, head along the end of the flats below the kahikatea and you'll find an old farm track. There's a massive slip not too far in there. Have shot a couple there by sneaking in quietly. Good luck with your surgery mate, looking forward to more vid's when you're fixed up.
