first came on to her from seeing her in the news. Didn't realize she's making a career out of this. This video series seems to be exactly what i was looking for. Her delivery is precise and slow enough to where I can process what she's saying and not have to rewind the video (most people I've seen speak a mile a minute). I also love the video quality of this. Looking forward to watching the others.

This is simply one of the best videos on plants I have ever watched on KZfaq, and it is going to help me with bringing my houseplants into the home over autumn and winter for the first time since I bought them and had them outside over spring and summer. I now understand how to gauge the correct amount of light for my plants, and I hope it'll ensure survival of them. Thank you for putting out this video for plant-parent-hopefuls like me.

When my neighbours leave town, some of them usually ask me if I can water their plants and of course I do. I myself use water reservoir pots (or I create them myself, usually with pots for orchids as they taper at the bottom so my pot will get stuck after 2/3 of the pot, all that is left is a at least 0,5 cm thick string made of cotton) or drip devices or I might think about something new, it works with electricity, little pumps that hang in a jar of water and they pump little amounts into the flower pot over the day. If you use bentonite in your soil, it holds more water, some types of soil hold more water to begin with, you can experiment with this (the fun never stops! :D). If you are from Germany, I use the soil of „Lubera“, beste Erde überhaupt. Hält Wasser ohne Ende.

Cat poop anywhere. I hate cat lady, because they just hug and adore the cute little kitty. But the cat poop on her neighbor's soil. I have one such neighbor, her cat poop on my shallot pots and garlic pots. I finally tired of cleaning their poo for 2 weeks straight. So i put many small nails under my soil. Yes the cat injured his foot. But dont blame me. I am not the one let loose a pet.

This is some great advice...just to add a little of my own knowledge...instead of fluorescent bulbs, you can get full spectrum LED lights that include the "warm" tones the fluorescent tubes lack. They also consume a lot less energy. This will also aid plants to flower if they are so inclined (flowering plants need the warm spectrum). Also, I would not advise a humidifier. Instead place a plant on a tray of moistened pebbles (just dont let the water get as high as the drainage holes), and they will get more than enough humidity and you wont be promoting growth of something you dont want...mold. Also, how clean your windows are will also affect your light...clean windows = more light (not an easy task in a bustling city environment). Also...lots of plants can be easily propagated simply by sticking a small cutting in water and left in a sunny window. I have two 8 foot ficus trees that I propagated doing just that that I took from a plant that someone had thrown out in an alley (it had a piece that wasnt dead...that was over 20 years ago) so you dont even always have to spend money on a new plant! One more thing...be aware of the active growing season for your plants...just like the rest of us...they require a rest period. Just like we can't keep going all the time...there are times of the year when a plant needs to slow down and chill out...if you let them rest...they will grow much faster and healthier when the active growth time comes around (this is really important if you use grow lights since they dont mimic the seasons like natural light). When a plant is resting, it doesnt need quite as much water or fertilizer. Hope some of you find this as a useful add on to a great video.

In front of my window are block of flats and 40 years old trees and from East another block is semi-blocking the light. Imagine I grow orchids, all types, anthurium and sanseveria, draecena, lilies, gloxinia, fresies, lavander, oregano, mint and irises. All are growing flower spikes because I supliment with artificial light.

thanks for the excellent overview! ... figuring out indoor lighting here needs considering the seasonal positioning of the sun being higher in the summer and low in the winter with every changing rising and setting positions, as well as having large trees surrounding a home so being in leaf or not changes things and then having a large overhang also effects things since the high summer sun is shaded and low winter sun comes right in... yikes it's all so very confusing lol.... very much appreciate all your inspiration and wonderful information and no doubt will figure out this changing lighting business eventually... :)

Hi Alex, thanks always for your vote of support and so thrilled you're learning and growing here too! And thrilled you appreciate the quality, time and effort that goes into these videos. Being a cameraperson yourself, I know you know firsthand how much goes into these. Luckily I really have internalized what I know (but I'm always learning), and try to write out a loose storyboard in the beginning, and we try to do everything in as the least amount of takes possible. 1, 2...maybe three times. It's easier then on the editing.

Simply amazing all the plants you have in your home! I live in a warehouse with no windows. After a couple years I finally got grow lights as I missed having plants! It is a learning curve but despite loosing a couple I have many. Home depot is really good about refunds when you keep the receipt and original pot if you do kill one. Thanks for your information as it probably saved quite a few plant friends!

Totally agree. Light level is crucial for house plants. I use an app on App Store called MQ GreenThumb to measure the light levels around my house. Light can be measured in lux or foot-candle.

These videos break my heart. I would give anything to be surrounded by so many plants but I live in a townhouse with very little natural light and my boyfriend is a heathen that does everything in his power to make it darker than it already is lol

Hi Summer, I literally have to stop the video to write to you this message. Thanks so much for this video, you are absolutely right about the light intensity. I have an actual small compass to understand the direction so I can put my plants accordingly and most of them are doing right. Is it possible to make videos exclusively on Philodendrons as they are my newest obsession(pls. pls)Also I keep on seeing your Peperomia videos to treat mine more perfectly. So far few good but few are disasters :)

Summer Rayne Oakes I would absolutely love that as well! There aren't many videos on Philodendron care that are in depth, historical, clear and concise as videos you produce. I would be so grateful to learn from you about that beautiful genera! 💚💚💚

Would you consider making videos on urban vegetable gardening? I love listening to your voice, looking at you in your videos, and believe in what you are saying, so I'm hoping you could make videos on food production.

Wow, you've really, gone all out with your plant growing. Love all the warm, earthy, tones you have throughout your place, from what I see in this video, apart from the plants themselves. Even though you appear to have a lot of brick walls, they are not harsh or cold, at all. I'm relaxing here, simply, by looking at the images. Why people prefer to have everything white and bare is utterly, beyond me. I'm in the middle of a blizzard right now, as I type this, on January 17th, 2020, so this is such a treat for me. So would love to be there, right now, amoung all those beautiful plants you have. You may have killed many plants in the past, but you certainly, seem to be doing a damn, fine job now. My Best. Best of 2020. Out.

Have you tried to use LED Spots on your plants? If you have dark corners in your home try to "feed" you plants with LED light. I have been very sceptical about that idea but as far as I can tell it actually works. I do grow all sorts of plant also aquariums plants and carnivores like Venus Flytraps and the LED spots are working great. By the way, I love your videos and how your home looks like. And, yes, you are very inspiring.
