I Stopped Chasing Success And Couldn't Be Happier - Here's Why / Hey beautiful people 🍂
How I view success has changed a lot in the past few years, especially after simplifying my life.
I have realized that I no longer aspire to have a career, at least the one I wanted to have growing up being an important person that earns a lot of money.
In this video I sit down and explore the topic of how the success is seeing in our society, what successful life used to mean for me and what does it mean now 🌱
I share my thoughts on how to live a fulfilling life, topic of ""I don't dream of labor"" and why I choose slow living over the hustle culture.
I hope you'll like the video and get some inspiration from it 😊

I always say to my wife “it’s your life, live it the way you want and don’t care about what others think of you. Do what you want “. Look at what is happening to our planet because of highly ambitious people who are always seeking growth. They are destroying the national resources. I personally live a simple life, I enjoy myself, try to consume as little as possible, take long walks in the woods and ride my bicycle on beautiful trails. Cheers from Canada

Ok but can u say that if you're living in a developement or 3rd world country? Idk what defines self worth. I don't want fame I don't need to be rich I don't aim to be CEO in corporate world. I just want to live freely and have financial stability but Idk what defines self worth and how to be a valuable person.

This come to mind. Said by John Lennon “When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down 'happy'. They told me I didn't understand the assignment, and I told them they didn't understand life.”

I'm 45 and I had the big ambitions. I studied, I built my own business, I worked long hours, I bought my own house, I sailed oceans and still I am unhappy. Unsurprisingly. Because I'm disconnected from the natural world by being too connected to the digital one. I am starting a journey to move towards more intentional living, letting go of my attachments to things and experiences and what people think of me, moving towards a simpler, more fulfilling life. Thank you for your videos, I feel like I found your channel at the right time.

Unfortunately success in this modern society means having a well paying job and being rich materially, but that does not guarantee any happiness at all. Bravo to you for wanting to carve out your own path! My current job does not bring me that much happiness/fulfilment but I hope to be able to save up as much as I can so that I can retire earlier.

Thank you for your videos. I have been feeling this way for yesrs. People think that I'm just wasting time because I'm not being "productive" or have lost all ambition. But, really my priorities and focus in life has changed. I aspire a life of slowing down and simplicity where I go on hikes to connect with nature, practice yoga, meditate, drink tea, read books, and be in my garden. I'm really happy with my life. And I'm just accepting that people don't get it. And that's okay 😊💕

People want more. They think if we are not in hurry and fast and doing things slowly we are not successful. Their validation don't matter. Because they don't know any better. Mindfulness is the key to get rid off stress as much as possible.

A simple, balanced life is really what I'm searching for. I get so anxious thinking about working every single day of my life until I retire. It sounds incredibly unfulfilling and I don't want to wait until I'm 70 until I can really live my life. It's difficult of course, but as long as I earn enough to get by, and can indulge in hobbies and activities that I'm passionate about, that's all that matters.

I think we're so conditioned to push through and grind things out that we lose touch with whats right for us and ignore the signs from our own bodies, that the path we're on is the wrong one. I know I've made a career out of doing this and its only now that I;m starting to question the way I approach work/life. I'm not sure where its all going and what my ultimate purpose is but since I quit the job that was sucking me dry, I've been able to put some of the pieces together. Its an adventure, its scary, its uncertain, its one big experiment but what I do know is that the freedom I have is priceless. I know I wont go back to forcing myself to endure a job that is dead and meaningless, just to pay the bills. I'd rather live a very stripped back and basic life, where I what I do as work has meaning and there is plenty of time and space in my life for actual living. The birds.........yeah i hear them now and the other day I saw something that stopped me in my tracks. A little robin red breast sat in the palm of this woman's hand eating seeds. He looked so relaxed and comfortable and it was a sight to behold. This is real life.

This is so relatable. Ever since the pandemic, I began seeing how burnt out and unfulfilled I was having a fill time job and multiple side hustles, all for the sake of feeling like I could prove I could be independent and strong as a woman. Then it hit me somewhere during that year - I don’t think I like staying that busy and exhausted, and I didn’t even know who I was trying to prove all of that too. The last few years I have worked on gardening, home improvement and cooking/baking skills. I have said no to more, worked to have more moderation in my life with different things, and not rush off to the next thing. (Kind of, lol - still working on that last one) These tips are relatable and things I needed to hear! I am curious about how you mentioned you have no Instagram… what led to that decision? How does that work with being a KZfaqr, or has it not impacted things too much?

It's partly the fault of modern feminism that many women feel drained and burned out. Because they constantly hear from society that they should mutate into strong and self-confident women who don't put up with anything and get what's due to them. Especially during the Corona Pandemic, many women noticed that they feel comfortable in their role as mothers and prefer to be at home and prefer simple things like baking, cooking, sewing, looking after the children, etc.

You are lucky you are a woman, you will not be judged for not furthering your career and having side hustles apart from your day job, men will not break up with you over your career status, but for us men, we do not have this luxury, we have ti have status, especially job status when we are in a relationship, especially id the woman is from a higher social class or is attractive and also educated.

I feel I have always been intrinsically like you describe. My family, father, siblings, in-laws etc. have criticized me throughout my life for not 'hitting it big' in terms of career etc. I tell people I have a double deletion of both of the ambition genes. I did very well in school, became a scientist who just liked solving chemical & biological problems. Worked my entire scientific career at the laboratory bench, for scientist minimum wage, and now I'm retired and live with my wife in a wooded lot. It is possible that some of my science may at some point force me to have 15 minutes of fame, but I will return to the simple life. Humanity is going to face several major crises' over the next 300 years or so, it is not the Fermi Paradox, but the Fermi Truism; but if everyone lived a slow and simple life, we as a species could continue on this planet for tens of millions of years to come. However, I fear the materialists and narcissists will end the World for all.

I made the same experience. As a kid or teen I wanted to be famous and have a big family and lots of money. Now I want a small plot of land, a tiny house and a garden plus a job that pays the bill and leaves room for some savings. Media tries to dictate us, what makes you happy, but all of that is fleeting. My therapist once said he sometimes has these clients that go like "when I have my first million/this car/ this... I'm going to be happy, but when they reach that goal, they of course arent and that's because social ideas of success and happyness will not make your life better when it doesnt resonate with your own, inner needs and ideas. I became a minimalist some years ago and the more stuff goes, the better I feel (before that I had some real money and health issues since I was shopping and eating to feel better). Happiness comes from the inside and if you try to link it to your success/money/belongings etc. you will become dependent and have to recreate those situations again and again since your feeling of happiness is only temporary. Or as my therapist said: If you have inner stability and happiness you can choose freely to be (what sociaty deems as) succesful and have a carrer, if you dont have it, you HAVE TO be successful to be at least happy sometimes.

Hi Seve, I've just discovered your channel, and your approach to life really resonates with me. I'm 28 going on 29, did well in school and university, but I've never had a proper job. I'm a writer and the only way I can make a living with my skills is to work in marketing or advertising. My short experiences doing internships in these fields completely ruined my mental health. I went to New Zealand on a working holiday three years ago, and I'm still here now, doing low wage horticultural work and living a much simpler and slower life, being around nature and listening to the birds whenever I can. It's not an easy journey for sure, and everyone thinks I'm crazy. But I'm happy and at peace for now. I hope you'll find the right balance for yourself too. All the best in your journey and thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. Looking forward to your future videos!

My thing is money. I have always aimed for a higher salary and finally I am making a very good salary. I have material possessions, and I work from home. The job and team is not exciting by any means, working from home for me is very isolating. It is hard to think to let that go due to the salary and it's something that I'm working with at the moment. In addition to this the long winters. I am completing my studies and will change my perspective and mindset. This video really puts things in perspective; to appreciate the simple things and do things that make you happy. This is something I will work on; my mindset and a new shift. It's not easy due to previous experiences where I had been laid off multiple times and lack of money had become extremely stressful. In addition to the dreadful job search which is stressful. It's one of those things that you have to manage as it comes by.

I think it's important to be fulfilled in work in itself. Growing up, my mother said that whatever I do, whether I liked it or not, I should do the absolute best job of it I could. I learned over the years was that the trick to this was to actually take satisfaction in the fact that I was doing my best. That's why even though I spent 30 yeas working myself damn near to death in a career I HATED for long hours and crap pay, I have zero regrets and am proud of my work and look back on it with pleasure. Wouldn't change a thing.The younger people entering my field thought this was stupid when I shared this secret with them. That's why I'm so disgusted with and pity the younger generations and am thoroughly black pilled.

I started a master's degree last autumn, mostly because I didn't know what to do, wasn't ready to go straight into working life after my bachelor, and then suddenly the summer holliday was over and I had to do something.. I felt kind of pushed into it because nobody around me thought it was a good idea to just take it slowly and not rush towards some unspecified end. It all began in the spring, when I wanted to postpone finnishing my bachelor for one year, because I wanted to spend more time on it and also work part-time in some simple job, work on self-improvement and write fiction (which is my true passion) I really hate that I allowed this to happen and that I let people with no real understanding of me push me around. Now I feel stuck in finnishing the degree, because I have taken up a full loan for this year. Don't get me wrong, the master programe is interesting and all and it will make it easier to find a job afterwards. But I think having that year in between would have been really good for me

Some great points on this, but it is from a view of a single person with no kids. Wanting to be successful is not about ego when you have a family to provide for, it is about survival, especially with the current economic struggles in the world. Some great points in this clip I will take on board though.

Thanks for replying. I think your channel is great for putting things into perspective. I guess my kids being fed and warm could be deemed as a success. It doesn't make for a simple life though, but we do try to not fall into the trap of competing with those around us which helps. :)

I used to also have a FT job, hustling, etc., but now I do the minimum, pay my bills, save a little here and there, and leave it at that. After the Pandemic, there was a trend of quitting jobs and not putting up with BS and that's true. Life is too short to be a slave to any one corporation or job. I've taken chances, had some stressful periods of no income coming in, and now I'm at a place where I can breathe again. Do what you love, don't care what others think or put you down for, and enjoy life. Life is too short to stay stagnant in something you don't love.

There's nothing wrong with having many acquaintances. Those vague type of relationships are healthy because you have the connection without the expectations/obligations that you have with deeper friendships. Of course you need one or two deep friendships too.

My ideal version of success would be wandering out into a forest and making my own home and growing my own food without ever talking to another human or using "technology" ever again. There can be no "success" that involves other people being part of my life and so I have decided to do nothing with my time and energy until I am forced to be homeless, as only from such a position is "success" even possible.

Totally agree on the topic. But what to do, if you have family, kids and obligations, that must be fulfilled, since parents invested so much into this success? I could live with a low cost at a minimum, since , personally, I require less. But I am not alone and it's bot about me anymore.
@SunnyKindJourney

Very good thing to think about before makig any big decision! I'm privileged enough to live in a country where the social support works well. I don't have to worry about going homeless, not having food, paying for school, etc. However, I'm not planning to just rely on this financially even if I could and I'm constantly saving money, investing, developing my skills, keeping my eye out on opportunities and posting content here that will eventually help me to build a side income. Even though I don't care to have fame & crazy successful career, I care to be financially independent, and not rely always on others as I mentioned in the later parts of this video. Therefore, with smart choices I plan to keep my finances in place without burning myself out in the process 😊

If you're miserable, its time for change. I am content 50% at my job, but there will always be rough days or clients and i start to think whether its worth it and i always come back saying yes. But the day i tell myself no, is the day i quit. Do good days outweigh the bad is what i base it off of. Like he said, its not always black and white sometimes

Life is enjoying the simple basic things . Especially our health, surrounding of nature animals and earth. Not possessions . I remember a co-worker of mine said the one who dies with the most toys wins. Well I visited him one time when he was I’ll and his house was cluttered and disgusting and smelled. I thought I definitely never want that. My parents were similar and when they both passed and we had to clean out their house and most went into a dumpster when we sold it. You couldn’t even give it away. So simple is better. Look at the days of Jesus. His relationships were most important.

It is very easy to stop chasing success once you have enough money. But, most people are slaves to work and live from pay cheque to pay cheque so they don't have much choice. Also, I highly doubt anyone would find a minimum wage job and absolutely loving it-most minimum wage jobs suck because employers are exploiting their slaves and those types of jobs aren't financially practical due to super high costs of living in developed countries. I still share your views in spite of these ideas.
@SunnyKindJourney
@SunnyKindJourney Жыл бұрын
I agree with you that minimum wage jobs aren't probably what most people strive for. I know there are people who love those but I think it's kind of rare. And yeah, I'm privileged to live in a country where I can live with a quite low income but still have enough opportunities and keep my mental health good, in most countries not having a well-paid job probably means much harder life conditions. Then again, money/nice career doesn't equal success for many so this really depends on your own values. I'm sure there are many incredibly happy people who don't care about success who live from their car, in the nature or still in their parents house.

See now this guy gets it. The secret is you need to really think about what you want and what will make you happy and then work towards that. If might mean extra pain and struggle if you decide low paying but high "fullfillment" is your goal, but as long as you are willing to live with that consequence than great. Thnk this kid has a good head on his shoulders. Don't let others define FOR you what is success, BUT understand the strengths and weaknesses of the choices you make.
