Our 2012 G37 leaks like crazy on the passengers' side. Almost 85k on the car. For now, I drilled a few drain holes where where the water was pooling up inside so at least the water can go out, rather than stay inside until I can get to all of this and clear the drain. I did see the drain tube when I pulled the carpet back and it of course was completely pliable, with no water inside it, so it's gotta be this.

This sunroof exit-fitting drain issue should be a class action lawsuit. Any lawyers out there wanna make some money? We solved ours with a little silicone to seal the exit fittings to the firewall. Easiest fix.

Actually removing the baffle will allow water to flow out the drain freely and solve the build up issue. The straw mod will help too. The rerouting hose is just a waste of time

I agree removing the baffle ,it looks like a nipple ,Removing could be from the hood side of the .One is from the battery side and the other from the brake fluid corner.To get access must remove the wiper s and the plastic seal that up against the windshield.Once you do this you see the culprit.With a flathead screw driver gently remove you will create a bigger whole which will unclog ,giving for the ability rain to flow easier.Then water test final.Open moon roof and test the vents.I was able to unclog it that way

first off the real reason it shoots out the sides is due to that tab in the middle of the garment once you remove that theres no issues also 1 thing thats overlooked when doing this you gotta make sure that the black ring around the garment is nice and buffy that seal is super important this is a gravity fed system .as for the straw its not really needed i repair alot of these and with a simple clean out of the lines and removing the tab on the garment zip tie the line to the garment face it with the arrow facing up it does the job . theres also option B reroute it with your A.c line however that can back up as well so keep that in mind if you consider doing this . but good work hopefully stays dry in there for you

Do not do the straw method. It restricts the water flow. What is happening is dirt build up inside the channel that leads to drain tube and slows down the flow then it overflows and runs down the front side pillar. All sunroofs leak and thats why they have drain hoses and should have front and rear drain. Just cut off the restrictor and should be fine. If all the drains working properly and still getting water in, your sun roof seal is exceeding the amount of flow of the drain and seal should be replaced.

@@TennisWorldSetPointI used the old plug but got a new gasket. All I did was remove the tape from the A pillars and stretch the hoses to give it some slack and reinstalled. The hoses shrink over time due to age and heat and it pulls on the plug allowing water to seep through. Giving it some slack prevents it from tugging on the plug. Been about 5 years with no more leaks.

Infiniti has also come up with a re-designed plug sans the baffles so the leaking does not happen, supposedly. Or obviously you snip the baffle out then put in the straw, or possibly no straw, just the baffle taken out would suffice?

I found another video on ways to fix this and I used one of them to fix my car. I've only ever had the problem on the passenger side but it was that pathetic gasket that was letting water in it had nothing to do with the plastic part. Put some sealer around the outer circle where it means the firewall and leak fixed

What I don't understand is if my sunroof is closed , why would there be a reason to have a drain there..wouldn't it being closed stop any water from coming in???
@bradleyzohn6387

Not sure why you need the straw which shrinks the diameter of the tube in the process -- thus reducing the water flow. The water is not actually coming into the car through that drain plug -- assuming the plug is properly seated. The gaps you are worried about are on the exterior side of the firewall. Any water that is coming through those gaps is not coming into the cabin -- it washes down the exterior side of the firewall. The water coming into the cabin and flooding the floor spills over the edge of the sunroof gutter because the waterflow is restricted and it builds up faster than it can drain through the hose and (if it is draining at all). Making the tub smaller (by using that straw) will slow the rate of drain flow which, in extreme conditions, could cause water to spill into the cabin even if there is no clog. The problem is actually the baffle on the plug -- it is too easy for debris to clog the opening due to the baffle catching it. Frankly, I cannot fathom a reason to have a baffle on that plug -- why does there need to be any dampening or disbursement of that waterflow, who cares? I think a better solution is to simply cut out the baffle and reinstall the drain plug without the straw. Just make sure the plug is seated properly and there is a good seal on the cabin side of the firewall.

Are you saying that the water is entering the cabin by overflowing the sunroof pan? Don't you think the water is entering via a poor seal on that gasket on that plastic fitting he's showing you? My theory is... that fitting, over time, works its way off it's mount, or the gasket itself deteriorates, and then water finds its way around the gasket, into the cabin. Maybe I'm wrong, but that makes sense to me. We're currently experiencing puddling on the passenger floor in our 2010 EX35, and we're investigating our next course of action. We're assuming this is our problem.
@bradleyzohn6387
@bradleyzohn6387 Жыл бұрын
@@JohnnyRawks That is EXACTLY what I am saying. And I can tell you for certain that 99% of these leaks come from the overflow of that sunroof panel. Now the source of the clog can vary but, ultimately, if there is a large amount of water, that water is coming from the sunroof gutter system. My problem was in a 2013 JX35 that I have owned since new -- still a great car and I didn't want to get rid of it but this problem was making me nuts. When it first started taking in water, I could not believe it was coming from the sunroof because there was never any discernible moisture on the roof liner, piller cover or anywhere else other than the floor. However, as almost everyone says water on the floor is a sunroof leak and I couldn't find anything else, I dutifully cleaned out the all the places that lead to the drain flow. It would still make massive puddles after heavy rain -- like inches of water if you take up the carpeting and styrofoam. When I finally tore down the entire interior chasing this leak, I could see that water overflowing the pan was leaking onto the back side of the passenger side piller which is plastic and from there it just flowed down the inside of that piller cover where it spilled beside the glovebox and onto the floor. It never touched any interior fabric. So I replaced the tubing and made sure the opening into it was good and clear. Didn't work. Eventually, I came across this video any others suggesting this part as the culprit -- I had previously blown compressed air through that part when I replaced the sunroof drain tubing but I never took it out. When I did pull out that part (which is a lot easier in a JX35 than the vehicle in the video) I found a small pebble was wedged into the baffle. It wasn't completely blocked, but enough to slow the waterflow which would back up the sunroof panel and produce massive amounts of water inside during heavy rains. I ordered a new part (which I still have if you need one) but it really didn't look like anything was wrong with it. I cut off the baffle and reinstalled it. I have had it outside through a ridiculous number of storms for the past several weeks and it is still bone dry in there.

@@bradleyzohn6387 Very interesting. You wouldn't think enough water would get in there to overflow it. It is sealed after all. Well, maybe not perfectly, but the sunroof closes onto a seal of sorts, I think? We tested our drains... well, the two on each front corner of the pan... there maybe a couple more based on my readings. The drivers drain seemed sluggish to drain and the passenger one was significantly faster. Both drip out underneath their respective fenders. I wonder if I could just 'snake' both drains out and see what happens. Seems like an easy start. I guess, based on what you're saying, if our drivers side drain was sluggish, it could cause the pan to fill, and then water to end up on the passenger floor. If it was the plastic fitting(s) on the firewall that was the culprit, I was thinking of just re-routing the tubing down to the A/C condensation drain on the passenger floor as per this guy's video: Seems like an easy and permanent solution. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d-B4jZxjndqZiXk.html
