With how laughably small the roster is compared to past MvC games, Capcom needs to own up and call this game what it really is. Avengers vs Capcom. With no Xmen, no Spiderman extras, no Defenders, no Fantastic Four? It's just the Avengers, own up to that shit.

when fans constantly asked for Red Hood as DLC in Injustice 2, it wasn't because they wanted a gun-fu moveset. You could have made him another zoner and while MINOR disappointment would be had, they'd still be glad he's at least in the game.

MvCI feels like such a big middle finger to fans of the characters of both companies. Like, yeah, you can appeal to the competitive scene all you want, but the majority of people who want to play this game play it so they can use their favorite characters from Marvel and/or Capcom's franchises, ESPECIALLY Marvel's since they are the most popular mainstream wise. The biggest appeal about this game is seeing beloved characters duke it out. You're bound to have fans PISSED when you exclude popular and beloved characters under the excuse of them being just ''functions''. Like, imagine if Nintendo took Samus out of the next Smash Bros, replaced her with the guy from like that Wii game called The Conduit and then said ''Oh, but Samus is just a function, so who cares? This guy can do the same shit''. That's basically what Marvel/Capcom allowed for one of their PR people to say, and considering Marvel's behavior and attitude towards the X-Men in the past couple of years, it's EXACTLY what they think of the X-Men and their fanbase. The fans, outside of some the competitive try-hards, don't give a shit about functions, tiers or whatever the fuck. They want to see their favorite characters in a game they can have fun playing. Also, screw Carol Danvers. She sucks as Captain Marvel.

Look....I LOVE the Marvel cinematic universe. But THIS shit isn't okay. The roster should be WAYYYYYYYY larger than what it is right now and there are a lot of characters, On Marvel's side and Capcom's side, that are missing big time.....

People on this friendcast is on point. In a vs game, the roster is the most important thing. We understand that about Marvel and their desire to push the MCU. But the lack of Dr. Doom alone disappoints me. Their are characters who interest me, but I'm not buying this immediately.

The number one problem with this statement is that it's not REALLY an explanation for why they took out the characters, the statement is Capcom trying to get their fans to shut up.

Online mode in a demo is possible plenty of games did it. War for Cybertron, a licensed transformers game from 2010 had an online mode in the demo.

The top players and the people who care about that sort of shit aren't even a large portion of the user base; they're a _microscopic_ portion of it, absolutely _dwarfed_ by the casual player. The average player doesn't give a shit about the "meta" or who's "top tier" or which mechanics are associated with which character, and the majority of _those_ don't even know what those things mean in the context of the game. Developing only for that microscopic portion, or trying to justify _literally any_ decision from that perspective when talking about marketing, is completely idiotic. Even I, a player who's aware of all of this, pick Spider-Man because I want to play as god damn Spider-Man, not because I wanted to pick someone who had a freeze mechanic. If you aren't developing a game like this for what the average fan wants first, you're doing it wrong, and if you're on the outside trying to argue in favor of any such decisions, you're doing it even worse, because the first probably avoided from a financial perspective, while the second didn't even put it into consideration.

I hope MVC4 has no characters at all, just stick figures that play differently with of course, different functions

You know, ever since I first played MVC3, I've only ever had one character request: Maximo. I really wish Capcom would dump that dork Arthur and put Maximo in. Maximo never gets any love.

You know what? I'm so fucking tired of dreading this game. Ever since it's announcement, I've gotten less and less hyped about MvCI every time some new info comes out. So, I'm instead going to look forward to this game's seemingly inevitable flop. From now on, I'm going to laugh at every bad decision they make.

I'm going to contradict them a bit because I personally am one of those people who Combofiend is talking about who looks for function over form. I pick my mains in a fighting game from the reverse of these guys - I look for what their gameplay style is first, and I don't really care about aesthetics or a character's backstory or if they have big tits or anything. If a character from a previous game is in a new iteration of that game but they play differently, chances are I'm probably not going to pick them and I'm going to pick a different character who plays more like the first characters iteration. THAT BEING SAID, I still understand that not everyone is like me and that character attachment is very strong for most people who play fighting games. So although I don't care about that stuff, I know how important it is for other people. So I understand where they're coming from here.

Ironically smash does the opposite of marvel in the sense that they'll shamelessly have clone characters cough melee cough and smash 4 cough.

As fun as it is to shit on marvel Infinite, can we not pretend that MVC3 was a good game. Marvel versus Capcom 3 was fucking terrible and I'm glad they are changing it, despite all this weird nonsense we've seen with the game so far.
