Is this the "I have a post-graduate title but I had to look at retail because nobody would hire me" corner? I belong here. So a couple of days ago I finally found a job as a teacher in a military school. I have to give history to middle schoolers. Easy right? Fuck no, today was my first day and, well, let's just say I'm an overall good teacher, but so far I rather be in retail.

I ran a kitchen for a suburban dive bar for about a year. The owner was a violent drunken mess, 90 hour work weeks (open the kitchen at 6am OOPS the closing cook can't afford gas money because he spent it on crack again, looks like you're staying until 3am lol!) and the work load was outrageously overloaded in a kitchen smaller than most bathrooms. I think the worst was watching the bartenders and waitresses work a 4 hour shift, leave with 200-300$ in tips, then complain about everything. Eventually I got fired because I threw the owners' son headfirst into a wall after he threw a knife at me. Two weeks later I was employed again, that bar shut down and now the owner is dead from a drug overdose. DON'T WORK IN KITCHENS

Title for worst job is tied between working at Amazon and working a construction job at a scrap yard. One left me sick with little to no sleep and I was barely treated like a human being with no bathroom breaks. The other left me dead fucking tired and made me feel like I had Parkinson’s at 22 and made me handle battery acid or I’d be fired on the spot. And when I got injured doing what they asked, they fought me so they could get away with not giving me a worker’s compensation for my injuries. Once I got it, I fucking quit.

Amazon fucked me up real good while in the thick of COVID. Always felt hounded from management, hardly any breathing room. Always tried to separate my brother and I from working in the same area. Fucking good for you man on getting out of both those hell-holes, holy shit.

My worst job has to be working at my hometown McDonalds in California. It had a broken air conditioner and I was the grill guy, so it was 108 outside and along with the grill it felt like 130. Kept getting in trouble because I NEEDED to drink ice water. So 2 heat strokes later and watching countless co-workers farting/spitting/putting snot on burgers and the fact that my manager barely spoke English, I just quit. P.S My grandpa was the owner of that McDonald's so after I quit he kicked me out and he basically sent me to Illinois to my mom. Then 5 days later he gave my grandma the middle finger and went to Mexico with his 25 year old mistress.

I was allergic to something in the shop, the table was too low for me. we got paid less than $3 per wreath. we didn't get an hourly wage on top of it. I was there ONE day. my brother worked in the field for the same lady who ran the shop, he got minimum wage. he quit when I told him how verbally abusive the owner was. talking shit about me, my family, my work ethic for quitting a job I was allergic to. Worst job I had was working recycling under the table in a white trash convenience store. We got paid minimum wage in cash to crush cans and bottles with a big fuckoff machine in a back room with no AC that reeked of stale beer and depression, which sounds bad enough until you realize that an unfortunate percentage of the cans had chewing tobacco spit in them. My brother and I worked two shifts and never went back. Somewhat close second was working for the town - they would hire middle/high school kids to help run the camps. I got probably the most cushy job, which was wrangle the kids onto the bus to go to the local YMCA to swim and wrangle them back. While they swam for an hour we got to fuck around in the nice cool observation room. The biggest downside to that job was the changing rooms. Not only did I have to keep the kids sane and safe, I had to guard them from the old men who were far too comfortable chatting with children while completely naked. Now I'm a software engineer working from home. I think I paid my dues.

I would say "At least they had a job" but after hearing the shit they've went through, I'd rather stay jobless. Just joking of course but still. My parents for the longest time would NOT allow me to apply for a job once I reached 14-15, claiming that working will get in the way of my education. In truth it was because they were afraid I would rebel against them just like my older sister, who they forced to get jobs (as in she would get one job, then quit, and then start another) during high school (things got better though). It wasn't until I was 16 when I got a proper job at my sister's law firm where she works (If I recall correctly she worked in the department that received calls about money issues or something like that) as the mail guy. My job was to actually return mail to the original senders. While not the best job, it was rather pleasant if somewhat boring. I got along really well with my coworkers, and my sister would help me out since her cubical was literally right next to me. However my supervisor would later call me into his office to regretfully, (he and I got along very well) tell me that I was laid off. This was less than 4 months since I was hired! To be fair this was during the 2008 recession. While the prospect of getting a job since then was nice, my parents insisted that I instead continue focusing on school (though my sister would ask me why I haven't applied for a job yet all the damn time since then). This would continue up until I finished college.

+Yin YangGamingIndustries I used to work as a greeter at a walgreens in a small neighborhood next to downtown Los Angeles CA. Being a greeter, technically your job is to stand near the entrance of the store say hi "welcome to walgreens" to everybody and offer customer service to anybody who needs it for 8 hours which sucks lol. But actually your job is to stop shrink, which is product loss whether that's customer stealing or employees. so Yea, I had to confront gang members all the time. which sucks but is expected. what alot of people dont know about Boyle Heights (which is where I live) is that there's a really bad mentally ill population, which happens because when a shelter, asylum. closes, they just give the patients some bus money to downtown and they wander of from there Ok, So thats the background, here's the actual story So it was s regular day, everything was cool and boring. and outside there's this insane dude in a wheelchair. all he was wearing was an oversized sweater. which he had pulled. down to cover his junk. I think he had diabetes even tho he was very skinny and his feet had swollen to like 3x there normall size and worst off all, betweem the back rest and the actual. seat of. the wheelchair in that space he had. his ass hanging out which had shit. coming out and like solidified. he had like. a gang of flies around him, the smell was unbearable

I'm obviously not glad that these guys, or anyone, had to do shitty fucking jobs... but there's something heartwarming about the shared experience of "oh I did this shit job and bought a ps2 with the money". For me, I worked at a Poundland (UK dollar store chain). I only worked Saturdays cos I was doing schoolwork - but they would always fucking make me work on the cash register in the presumably south facing window. This was the height of summer and the sun was on my back constantly. I am but a pasty chubby nerd and it really did a number on me at the time lol. I also worked in a Dixons and got talked down to a lot bc I was a 19 year old girl with bleached blonde hair - including one old man who had to apologise to me because he told me I couldn't add up the receipt correctly lmao

My shit job. There was a gas leak out in CA at porter ranch and they hired some 9 companies to deal with it because the people were still bitching, so I join for what was to be 3 weeks of minimum wage from 6am to 6pm, which never ended at 6 and sometimes ran up to 11:30 pm, and because the people I was working with was spread across the 9 companies, we normally stayed in the same groups, except that never happened to me and I was working with random people everyday, upon which most of the workers were latino aka spanish language barrier cause I'm from NC and never fully finished Spanish class. The people who were there for the most part were assholes and none of them would back me up, and me being black, only made things worse as I could tell I was hated, and generally the only black person there, upon which, they would teach me new equipment and not tell me how to improve: Go fast but don't miss anything = go fast and miss stuff or go slow, don't miss stuff and get replaced and on the second day, the head of the program came out and I can tell he fucking hated me; fuck that they vacuum I was using had power surges in every fucking socket and that I'm the first to start by vacuuming the ceiling and walls, but must be the last as to vacuume the floors, but only after the other guys come to vacuum out the vents, so I had to wait, and if I was ever the last to finish, I could just tell everyone glared at me. Everyone took breaks, but because of how long and shitty my job was, I never got to, but it's okay cause 10hr x 12hrs a day is a lot of money if you work everyday for 30 days. Long story short, apparently I was only supposed to work for a single day and no one questioned it cause 9 companies and no hierarchy of knowledge fucks up me and no one else at all! Not only that but I got complaints that I was too slow and was likely let go after a single week, upon which my checks came whenever they had the money to pay, so getting paid was an inconvenienced to my new boss; new cause my previous boss said I should have only worked for a single day with no heads up until 3 days after and I was rehired by choice(cause I'm broke and my graphic design degree is apparently useless in Los Angeles) and they had the days that lasted longer starting up before I was unbluntly fired. Literally everyday was shitty, not to mention the people I lived with went to sleep around 1am every day, so 3-4hrs a sleep a day and I'm the only heavy lifter there so I had to live 3 heavy objects every house. These houses were 2,500 - 3,800 square ft houses. The only thing I liked about the job, the literally only thing, was that I went into rich people's houses and saw how much of a fucking peasent I was as I gazed out their backyard window at a pool or side of a beautiful mountain at sunset. Otherwise, some of the guys we need to clean the vents to finish our jobs didn't come sometimes for 4hrs to at all or waiting on standby for 7 hrs straight standing on rocks that were fucking my feet just to get to the 3,800 ft house where that vent cleaners didn't come at all. Also the people were great. Best fucking humans I've met in my life. Seriously. But they sure got the shit end of the stick for the entire duration. And then the fucking policies. SBFP, shut up. Nothing you have compares. NOTHING EVEN COMPARES!!!
