Snails are amazing, although there are actually thousands of different species of giant snails! The species in the video are not Achatina fulica, they are most likely to be Cochlitoma varicosa, which if they are, that is amazing as they are super rare to see, in captivity more so. These guys are actually in the Lissachatina genus which means they are one of the newer genus', whereas snails from the Archachatina genus are much older and look so much different as well as having different slime! I have a whole room dedicated to snail species from all over the world, rare and common; they are just amazing. Sorry, I'm a complete snail geek lmao. Also, the part that you thought was their external lung, is actually their genitalia, both male and female parts. They breath (and poo from) the hole just underneath the lip of their shell on the flesh.

Snails *do not* have an external lung opening on the body like slugs. You were actually pointing to the genital pore :D P.S. - The pneumostome on a snail is located on the mantle, the muscle that connects the shell to the body.

Hi I love land snails. I had these "giant" land snails over 20 years ago and bred them and could not believe the best it built before laying. The clutch was beautiful, yellow shelled eggs and three of the 7 eggs laid hatched out albino. It was amazing. The deli I bought my breakfast from every morning before going into the office saved me egg shells and they devoured them along with greens, etc. It was an amazing experience. The one in your video is a youngster. Mine were gigantic and the "foot" was longer than my hand. The babies ate their whole shell as they broke out of their shell. And as you probably know, one lays eggs,vthan the other lays, so I ended up with quite a few, the albino were beautiful. Thank you for the great memories brought back to me.

@FusionDeveloper 5 жыл бұрын
One thing you didn't mention, is that snails can do a defensive thing, where they push out a lot of concentrated slime and bubbles while they retract into the shell, which can mess up a predator's ability to try to eat the snail.

Fun Fact, If a knife would be facing up with the blade, a snail is still able to cross the knife with no damage. The "foot" is very protective, and the slime makes the blade less sharp.

When my dad and I were in South Africa, we saw this snail on one of the safaris that we went on! It was so cool! Our guide put a lighter right next to it for scale and it was bigger than the lighter itself! It was an amazing trip and seeing this little guy was amazing as well!

This video just completely changed my opinion on snails.They are gentle and misunderstood creatures that people kill just because they think they are dangerous.Thank you for being so brave, Coyote!
@_Obey_
@_Obey_ 6 жыл бұрын
Dragon Slayer Who the hell thinks that snails are dangerous? They couln‘t be more harmless. They have bad sight and are super slow and tiny in comparison to us. You only need to fear them if you eat them. At least the big, african counterparts, because they often carry a kind of parasite, not affecting them, but us. Snails are important, they help clean the woods and are an important source of food. Better catch them and release them far away from your garden.

Snails are mainly killed by people who are trying to grow plants because snails are very invasive and can damage crops.

Actually these snails can eat up dry wall in places where they have been set free and can survive, e.g. America. That’s why they are banned there. Lol I have a pet one in England. They’re so cute and gentle (greedy too!)

@@DannyBScaping Achatina achatina shells are also pointed. Archachatina species have a more rounded tip. I think this particular snail had a bit of damage to the tip of it's shell, thats's why it looks pretty rough too.
