It requires at least 35 hp to top 100mph on a naked bike, so you’re pulling 3+ hp per cubic inch from your vintage machine. Excellent tuning!

On the first run I was thinking this thing needs more revs and when you when down a tooth it immediately sounded much much better rev wise. Before that it just sounded like an old school low revving 4 stroke, but that second run the difference in sound was night and day. Excellent effort and a lovely looking bike, well done

These 175's were great engines for the time, revving into 11k and 17hp stock. Your build looks wonderful.

I have watched several of your videos on the building of your bike. Congratulations on cracking the Ton! I have an ACU speed record in the UK with my 175cc Honda. My record is for the pushrod engine class. I achieved a two way average on the mile of 93.054mph with my modified 172cc push rod CG125 single normally aspirated.

Fantastic work of engineering. Back in the 80's I ran a 4 speed single carb CD175, besides a 2 into 1 megaphone muffler and down from a 39T to a 34T rear sprocket I clocked a whopping 81mph downhill, chances it was touching [nearly] a real 70mph - I was delighted with myself

Thats quite an acievement for that little engine, should get in contact with donut media; they tried and failed getting into 100mph, maybe they would be interested in this.

My stock 1971 CL175 would go 82 mph, so 100 mph on a modded, blown one is a piece of cake. Congrats!

I had a 1967 CL-160 which topped out at 85, bock stock. I dove it 35,000 miles in fourteen months until I joined the Navy in 1972. With that bike, I drove from Western Illinois to Louisville and back every weekend. It ran 70 mph all day long. I cracked a piston twice because of using cheap gas. It was a real nice bike.

Years Ago I built A Honda Frankenstein Bike From A pair of the upright Cylinder CB 175, and a CD 175, I put the 5 speed from the CB into the starterless cases of CD , put the twin carb heads on over bored barrels running I don't know what pistons ( My brother in laws had a Bike Breaking yard ) But I drilled and machined virtually everything in the engine for lightness, I even gave it a BSA Pineapple Finned style Barrel and heads, the con rods were drilled and lightened the heads ported and flowed , the clutch basket drilled the gears in the gearbox even hand made 2 into 1 super light exhaust, That bike hit an indicated 105 mph on the flat , unfortunately when I missed a gear one day the engine totally grenaded , and sounded like a cocktail shaker inside lol, But this kinda reminded Me of My quest for speed on that little bike Well done, I will say that on its 105 top speed run , I was running a hand made water / methanol injection kit that I could turn on and off 👍👍

It's been a priviledge to have been able to follow this project, with a result that would not shame a factory supported team. Your humble attention to detail, patience and methodical approach to problem solving should be an inspiration to anyone who doubts they can find reserves they never knew they had. That's awesome. That was my first bike back in the seventies. Never thought I'd see someone do that to it. I talked my dad into buying a motorbike so it was critical that we walked out of the shop with one that day before he changed his mind. As luck would have it that was all they had 2nd hand. We ended up with a CL175 as our/my first bike and took it to Hungry Creek in NSW, camped there for few days and had the best time in the dirt. Awesome job.

When I was a young teen my older brother got hold of a 125 s.o.h.c.honda twin motor similar to yours ,I think it was 1966-7 maybe a year later.He built a frame and made a dirt basher with it, it revved very high.I remember my brother getting me to siphon some fuel for it and I got a mouthful,methanol,blue,swollen lips,the thing was unreliable but made a great noise.

This was really cool too see. What a cool build. I can relate in a way building single cylinder honda engines with TB Parts big bore and performance parts, mixing and matching different transmission sets and gearing. Even a few MPH dont come easy once youve hit your plateau of RPM-Gear ratio- and fire to the tire. Lol great video and build!

I used to have a Honda cd 175 looked very similar to your cl ware engine was sloped and made part of the frame. That bike was extremely fast as standard. Well done on your build and record.

These "sloper" twins had so much potential. I rode CB-160s, had several of them and commuted on one for years. I set one up for AAMRR amature road racing but never raced it, sold it to a collector years ago. There wasn't much available in speed parts for the small twins though some parts were available in Japan and could be purchased from a Honda racing dept. but negotiating getting them wasn't convenient. Perhaps you could pass along what you did to the engine other than the supercharging. I had one of these 175 engines and noted that the bore to combustion chamber shape was matched - the CB-160 had the valves and combustion chamber of the CB-93 which was a 125cc so the match to the bore wasn't good for reworking for power. There were aftermarket cams and valve springs but the compression was still less than 8.5:1 IIRC.

Right on! my first bike was a CD175 and it was a great twin. 45 years ago. Larger rear wheel may add a bit, 18" vs 19" on a BSA does it. You should dust bin a body it may add 20mph :)

WOW!!!! Congratulations! Man, I was sweating on both runs. Way to go! Glad you didn't blow it up, or you would have scraped up those nice leathers LOL!!! There is probably a lot you can do to this current bike to up that record. That is basically a stock motor....... Thinking titanium valves, heavier springs and maybe Carillo rods to lighten up the drivetrain. Plus forged pistons and balancing the whole lot will up your redline significantly. Easy 110mph

In the late 1970s NZ had a honda175cc speed record and 11000rpm. My main ride commuter on country roads was a stock CL175 . Only burnt out a piston twice times for slightly out of tune. Wore the ig switch out so I had to tie the key in so it wouldnt fall out.

Had a '66 C77, was great engine.

I have to admit that I am not familiar with the regulations of this record. With that said, in this configuration, the biggest obstacle is now drag (aerodynamic drag). At 100mph there is a lot of it. I think that, with aerodynamic refinement (with a small weight penalty), the record could be significantly extended. You probably noticed that when running with the taller gear, the obstacle was more aerodynamic than lack of power. Good runs, a beautiful build, and a record in the bag. A job really well done!

I am 75 and had bikes from 13 to 74 years old. Those 70s Hondas were a bit bland but they were beautifully designed and built. My first Honda was a 66(?) 305 Honda dream, ugly but so well made after my 1950 BSA b31 350 which leaked oil and vibrated etc. Great to see you getting the most out of the little motor. Congratulations.
