Elly's Everyday Soap Making

3 жыл бұрын

I have received many messages and comments over the years asking for clarification on the concept of 'superfat' in cold process soap making and soap recipe formulation. Here is my video on the subject, finally!
If you have asked yourself any of the following questions, then this video is for you:
◾ What is 'superfat' in soap making?
◾ How is superfat calculated?
◾ What is the difference between superfat and lye discount?
◾ Do I need extra oil for my superfat when I'm calculating my soap recipe in Soap Calc?
◾ How much superfat should I use for my soap recipe?
◾ What is wrong with a too high or too low superfat amount in my soap?
I'm very pleased to announce that my website is now live! You can find all of my videos plus a whole range of other useful information there now at www.ellyseveryday.com/

@@houseofdc9867 The soap turned out great. I made more than one batch. added some rose clay in one batch and I added some activated charcoal and tea tree oil in another one for my grandson...to help with acne. He really like it for his face and even has asked for more. So that tells you a lot. :) We live in Georgia so it's more hot and humid than some other places.

I've watch many videos and ready on this subject and couldn't quit understand it until watching this video! Was thinking last night about this topic & like magic you pop up as a recommended watch with the answer. I harvested and froze some Aloe Vera yesterday & today I make soap. 2nd ever batch. My first was high in coconut oil & thanks to you I know understand why I didn’t love it. I’ll still use coconut oil, just in smaller amounts. Thanks for all the knowledge & super friendly delivery!

You are my SOAP TEACHER HERO! You are so sweet and so smart, the only reason why I’m able to understand and make soap, is because of what I’ve learned from you.. THANK YOU!

Hi Elly, I just wanted to say I've been watching your videos and adore your scientific approach, it makes it so much easier. I trained as a scientist but don't work in my field and was diagnosed with ADHD later in life, it turned my life upside down, but seeing videos like yours make things so much smoother for me when I'm trying to teach myself something. Much love and best wishes from England, Sal.

Great and Informative video. I could say you've earned the title Mwalimu Elly (Mwalimu in Swahili is Teacher). You've answered the questions that are confusing for a beginner soap maker, it's like you read our minds. Many thanks for the video.

This is the first video I’ve come across that REALLY explains superfatting. I’ve been so confused by superfatting from watch so many soap maker videos. Thank you so much for your in depth explanation. I’m now confident in just sticking to adding my 5% superfat in the calculator.

Thanks so much Ellie, Superheating and Lye Discounting have daunted me up until now, but thanks to you, I GET IT! And understand so much more about why certain soaps eg my CP salt bars with 90% coconut oil need a 25% 'superfat' 🙂

Oh Em Gee! I learn soooo much from you!!! The way you explain things is outstanding! You truly should be on Skill Share or teaching young adults on this craft! The "homeschooling" community is growing by leaps and bounds and they would pay for you to teach their kids! God Bless you 10 fold Elly! You truly are a Rockstar!
