Для тех, кто не знает, что он делает, он делает 2-часовое огнестойкое соединение. Кабель с минеральной изоляцией представляет собой сплошной медный сердечник, который пропускает ток через огнестойкий белый минеральный порошок, который затем заключен в медную оболочку, действующую как заземление. Он предназначен для использования в зданиях с большой вместимостью. Кабели предназначены для питания аварийных систем, которые при любых обстоятельствах должны продолжать работать в условиях пожара. Кабель MI даст вам минимальную 2-часовую огнестойкость и позволит таким вещам, как пожарные насосы, пожарная сигнализация и различные другие необходимые системы пожаротушения, продолжать работать, даже если кабель непосредственно подвергается воздействию огня. В частности, причина такого сложного процесса сращивания или соединения заключается в том, что повреждение или разрезание медной оболочки разрушает или нарушает класс огнестойкости линии. Чтобы сохранить этот класс огнестойкости, должны быть выполнены специальные соединения, одобренные сводом правил пожарной охраны (IFC). Yeah, that was a quality explanation. It’s weird, I’ve known of its existence but of my 20-odd years as an industrial electrician, I’ve never come across it (but then, I’ve only worked in 2 places). Looks like a right pain 🤣

​@@BigInjun05any time you need a cable to be able to survive direct fire impingement basically. I think they are most commonly used in certain fire alarm or suppression systems.

I have wired entire building fire alarm systems in the uk with this cable and specs required a wall anchor and screw every 8 “ throughout the job At the start of the job we had 54,000 brass slot headed screws dropped on site along with same number of wall anchors and 2 new sds drill All screws installed by hand no cordless drills

Still have my pyrotecnax "mole" pot crimping pliers. Dream to use. Plus sit thecompound on your 110v site transformer to warm up, goes on a lot easier. Surprised your not using rpsl. Do you not check the inside of the pot for that tiny brass slither that comes off the inside of the pot thread and more often than not sits against a conductor? Plus clean off the ex ess magnesium oxide from the conductors to avoid moisture tracking

Don't see much pyro these days, I remember wiring an entire dairy farm in the stuff back in the mid 90's ....with the old wind-up megger trying to dry out the mineral insulation 😅 ...I know!

or fault finding on it, the old BICC book 'the electricians mate', showing how to dry out a failed pot by stripping back the pvc outer (if present), then use a blowtorch to dry it out ... happy days

He forgot to remove the moisture in the mineral insulation media before sealing. It was always a requirement to heat 150mm of the copper to remove as much moisture from the magnesium oxide insulation before adding the seal.

If it’s a freshly cut end it won’t have a moisture issue.

@@HauntedOne666 I get what your asserting but, what if you saw someone using a chisel as a screw driver, it's hardly the right tool for the job, in fact it's the wrong tool being used for a job, because the right tool is unavailable, you wouldn't want to make pyro ends a meter long, you'll wish you had the right tools for the job rather than the, have to do tools..

No modern installation uses pyro anymore they will work with either fp200 or flexi shield so if this type of equipment ever does need to be installed then they'll usually get some old boys in to do it

Pyrotenax: used in areas which where high heat (or fires 🔥)may occur & also heat tracing (heated asphalt driveways, etc.) . Used in industrial & commercial applications (oil refineries, etc.)

​@@johnnyarsenault9124you're wrong, the main purpose of this cable is piss engineers off in 20 years time when the customers fire alarm is showing a fault and other engineers have spurred off it multiple times in the past, the bit of electrical tape to indicate positive and negative has fallen off so no idea which is which, the pot at the end is no good so as soon as you touch it it shorts out, and of course when they want something moving so you have to try and move the cables. I HATE WORKING ON THIS STUFF on fire alarm systems.

It's called Mineral Insulated Pyrotenax, it is used for fire alarm systems so that in the case of a fire the cable doesn't get damaged from the heat or burning therefore the alarm works properly as well as sprinklers. It's mostly used in industrial/commercial areas such as: Airports, Petrochemical plants, healthcare facilities etc.

does this stuff not pull in moisture when it's open. I never see a torch around when these guys film MI splices and connections being made. I have always had to use a torch with the stainless stuff.

It will absorb moisture for around 1 meter and then stop. So no need to dry a freshly cut end.

It’s Pyro or mineral insulated cable . Used before modern fire resistant cables . It’s also used where surface wiring is needed on old stonework to blend in as it can be bent and ‘ hidden ‘ in the lines of the stonework

Does anyone still install MIMS cable? I did my apprenticeship in the early 00's and we were told about it but i have never installed it. There are better options nowadays.

I attended my college courses in the last couple years. It was briefly mentioned, but they emphasised that is very rarely used, unless in particular special locations, such as listed buildings and old churches etc.

We use it in the foundry building. We can't have a hot accident damage critical systems cables.

Used in nuclear power stations to measure the core temperature. I’ve used 19 core pyro at an airport for the air traffic control tower. Used miles of it in petrochemical sites, churches, museums etc. It will operate at over 1000C and won’t give off toxins even if Ii has an outer insulation .

Soooo..... I love Knipex tools, I have some, I just don't understand the "selling point" when you can achieve the same result with cheaper, similar tools. This is like having a video of a GT 350 mustang doing donuts and insinuating you should purchase a GT 350 if you ever want to do donuts easily. Idfk

I still don’t get why you would need Mineral Insulated Cable in the first place. It only seems to fail and a pain to replace or repair. So i don’t really understand why it a thing.

We use MI cable for controls in the foundry. There's control and sensors which are critical to function. We can't have a hot accident knock out any systems.

Rule number one when dealing with Pyrotenax. Never touch any part with your fingers or hands once the outer sheath has been stripped back!
