The first four same Superman movies have the same ratio as the first four Batman movies. 1. First one is considered the best (Batman & Superman) 2. The second one is good (Batman Returns & Superman II) 3.where the franchise went downhill (Superman III & Batman Forever) 4. The fourth one is considered one of the worst movies ever made! ( Superman IV: The Quest for Peace & Batman and Robin)

True story, none of the actors showed up for the screening of this film. Except for the guy who played Nuclear Man. In full costume. They were meant to have Superman there as well, but as I said, Reeve didn't show up. So the poor guy had to keep explaining to everyone there who he was supposed to be, and why he was there, since the character was invented for this one film.

You know, Linkara has a point. The Batman and Superman movies do have a lot in common. The first one is dated yet still really charming. The second one is superior in every way. The third one’s not that bad guys, calm down. And the fourth one is Superman IV and Batman and Robin.

I prefer Superman IV to Superman III. IV was *trying* to be a Superman movie, to recapture the magic of the first one. Superman III was basically "The Gus Gorman Movie, starring RICHARD PRYOR (with special guest appearances by Superman)

Now who is Teschmacher going to help? The "diseased maniac" who treats her like sh*t, or the charming superhero who treats others equally? And finally 3) becomes outsmarted by Superman in the sequel's climax. You know, Lex, is Superman manages to outsmart *_you_*, I think it's time to retire from crime.

Superman Returns was a sequel to Superman II, wasn't it? I thought the point of it was getting rid of III and IV out of continuity?

I hate to defend this movie, but Superman extends a field whenever he lifts things. It's why Superman could pick a boat up on one end and swing it like a bat, but if the hulk tried to do the same the ship would break.

The nuclear disarmament bit really was a slap in the face to the character of Supes. Alongside maybe Captain America, he is the ONE hero who would NEVER consider something like that. Just imagine if you had Superman’s powers. Much like me, you might make it 48 hours before doing something like blowing up the 3 Gorges dam, or glassing the entire Middle East, or simply deleting Africa. The entire point of Superman is that he could solve any problem in an instant. But that would require totalitarian force. And he absolutely will not stand for that. That would be a Doctor Doom approach. And while even divine gods may look at you and say “yeah, that’s the best solution”, Superman is not an aggressive hero. He’s a reactionary hero.

I'm not exaggerating when I say that for years I forgot this movie existed. I did watch it when it was first shown on TV however many years after it was released, but until the early 2000s I had it in my mind that there was only 3 Superman movies.

In the first episode of the Justice League cartoon there’s a whole bit about Superman disabling Nuclear weapons across the world (and it’s handled better)

Actually, the flag on the moon is supposed to look like that. They hung it on a rod because there’s no wind on the moon to blow it. The REAL mistakes the movie made are that it was still standing (the exhaust from the ascent module blew it over when Armstrong and Aldrin left) and that it was both in one piece and still had its colors. If the lack of atmosphere to protect it from the heat and radiation of the sun hadn’t rendered it to dust by the 1980s (or now), the colors would have almost certainly been bleached away.

Now each time I hear the superman theme I can't help but imagining jontron opening THE GREATEST GAME SYSTEM IN THE PLANET.

Are producers who are SO greedy they refuse to put money into even a Superman film, actually daring to criticize corrupt, greedy businessmen?

I don't understand this fascination that shitty movies like this have with how people move in space, especially on the moon. Why is it that they feel like they need to move in slow motion? Seriously, just because the gravity is less does not mean you move slower. Hell, you don't even really fall slower, if anything you'd fall faster cause there's no atmosphere to cause drag which is what causes a feather to fall slower on Earth. When the Apollo astronauts first landed on the moon one of the experiments they did was show that in a vacuum, especially on the moon, that two objects of approximately equal size will fall at the same rate. They dropped a hammer and a feather at the same time and they hit the ground at the same time because there was no drag to cause the feather to move slower. This is why the idea that heavier objects fall faster than light ones is bullshit. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Less gravity does not make you move in slow motion, hell, you don't really even fall slower. The only thing that'd really change is that because you're used to fighting gravity to move that were you to try and jump as high as you could, you'd go MUCH further and throwing an object will travel further as well due to the force of gravity pulling it down being reduced (and also because drag from an atmosphere is reduced to the point that it's not there at all). Yes there is gravity but on the moon it's about 1/6 as much as it is on the earth (roughly). So movies, fucking stop doing this. I know this movie is old but just fucking stop it.

I'm watching Doug's reviews of Superman 1-3 this month and coming back to one of his earlier reviews Superman IV, one of the worst superhero films ever made and its so bad it makes Batman and Robin look good.

It turns out that Richard Donner directed 70% of Superman 2.

I don't think crossovers have quite hit their peak yet, still experimental and such. But I feel this is one of the first to really work despite being unrefined. I doubt it's easy to do since someone has to work around BOTH sets of footage, but whoever did this pulled it off well.

One of my favorite reviews from NC. It just flows so perfectly and doesn't take 20 minutes of skits that.....are just never funny.
