I concur! You're the first person I've seen mention the difference between the white and crystal options in terms of the pull tab vs screws for accessing the back. Thats actually a huge difference, thanks for pointing that out! 25:39

@@peetung Certainly worth noting, if you are going to be accessing the back a lot for the Micro SD card you can save 30$ too

Offline text recognition + search, free cloud storage + 3rd party cloud sync options, screen sharing, and app side-loading are great features. The fact that all of this is available without a paid subscription is why I chose the supernote over remarkable.

@@VladimirKostek Note Air 3C is my first tablet and Nomad is second in the e-ink realm, and they really work great for my needs at present, but I am looking into a B&W version only like the new Boox Go 10.3.

This is super cool! You show it as a note taking device but I would love to one day replace or supplement my sketch book / kindle with the remarkable, it will fit right in next to my framework.

I do worry about Supernote's longevity if they don't pursue a subscription model somewhere (cloud stuff, for example). Right now they are merely making money off of the device itself. That's dangerous if the market stagnates or even shrinks due to competition. Or if the market becomes saturated.

I think they will be fine given current demand, and the upcoming A5 X2. Also they have the best feeling pens and tablet in the game for writing. It's anyone's guess but I think the modularity will aid with sales as it's a cheaper upgrade over time.

this was such a great and detailed review. I got 2 questions, I still don't have an e-ink device so I kinda wanna know how integrated Obsidian is to the Supernote devices. Also wanted to know your opinion on what device between Supernote and Boox would be better for making architectural sketches and also considering most other features

Glad it was useful 👍. For sketching architectural diagrams I think Atelier is fantastic, my previous video was solely about that app if you want to check it out. Obsidian integration is possible, I would point you to organizing for change or VladCampos' videos on SN/Obsidian, hope that helps. If I ever start using obsidian maybe I'll make a video one day.

How is the size compared to RM2 for notetaking. I will mainly use it for taking notes in meetings and annotate pdf. I have owned a RM2, but want a supernote. Will the Nomad be to small?

If you are used to an A5 sized device and are going to be doing a lot of notetaking I would wait for the A5 X2 in the fall. Nomad is great tho and the landscape pdf support is nice like I mentioned.

Hey Vladimir, thanks for this awesome review, I appreciate all the detail you went into! I’m trying to figure out which e-ink tablet to get as my first and I’m juggling between this, waiting for an A5X2, the go 10.3 by boox, or possibly a remarkable device if they have a new one down the line, but their subscription model definitely pushes me towards the former options. The main things I’m looking to do with device are note taking and reading documents for school. Do you think the Nomad would be sufficient for this or should I try a bigger device like the go 10.3 or a future A5X2?

Hey Jakob, honestly if you are a student and are going to be taking a ton of notes I think it's worthwhile to have a larger device. I would wait for the A5 X2. Also fyi I do believe reMarkable offers one free year of connect rn. The Nomad is a great supplemental device or can be great in work settings but for school I would personally want something bigger. Like today I was preparing for a livestream and taking a bunch of notes so I used my rM2, just nice to have extra space. I can't comment too much about the go yet as the details are limited, but I will probably talk about it with Kit on our next livestream. Hope that helps!

This is a very cool review. Thanks a lot. My question is…in terms of workflow, productivity, do you think that this device is better than a Note Air3 C or even the new Boox Go 10,3”? Something for writing, note taking, typing, planner, PDFs and the occasionally reading for pleasure. Cheers!

Both of those Boox devices have more functionality, you just have to determine if you need all of that. The Nomad can do a lot of what you want...but it is 1.) Smaller and 2.) More focused and less distracting. I think those are two considerations you need to make 👍

Would it be possible to install Syncthing and keep notes in sync with other devices directly, bypassing cloud storage?

Great video! Can the standard push-up pen be disassembled to try putting the nib in a regular pen? (I‘m thinking like a Pilot Juice or Jetstream.) Or would I need to buy the single tip to try different pen bodies?

From what I understand, you could get it out of it. Although you would basically have to break the standard pen. If you are planning on making your own pen i would just get the refill and one of those pilot pens, it comes out cheaper and nicer imo. I will be making a video when my refills come in about adapting my own pens too. Glad you like the vid :)

I think it's sold out at the moment since it's the more affordable one and these are selling quite well. I'd keep checking back if you're trying to get one.

I’m a teacher I have the option to buy a used a5x should I get that or buy a new nomad. Primarily looking to lesson plan and organize those as well as use the screen share for students.

At this point I wouldn't recommend the A5 X, unless you can get it for very cheap. Otherwise the Nomad or upcoming A5 X2 are your best bets.

Awhile back I bought a Boox Note Air 3c. It felt like writing on a whiteboard. Plus the workflow and support for extensive writing just was not very good IMHO. And the thing weighs a ton. I returned it (eating about $100 in the process). I'm waiting for the Supernote A5X2 and hoping that solves those issues. It sounds like the feel of the writing is pretty good.
