I had to come back to this video to say this. The tucking elbows in on the way down and flaring them on the way up observation by Mark changed my bench. I heard these queus and breaking the bar and spreading it a hundred times but never seemed to implement it as a habit because of focusing on other things and not giving it it's proper due. This simple and effective and logical cue will explode your bench. More xplosive of the chest and easier lockout. If you do wiide grip increases speed of the chest while still having the other benefits of widegrip. Perfect.

Believe it or not if you want your bench press to go up, you have to make your back stronger. Bent rows, lay pull downs, wide grip pull ups. Believe me it works. I got my bench up to 450 this way. Currently got weaker now because I’ve been slacking on my back work outs. Now my max is 415. In my experience back workouts are a major boost to bench press.

@@diegomelgarejo4114 Not sure what you mean. If you mean % of 1RM then I'd assume 8 reps would be roughly 75% of 1RM, 6 would be 80% of 1RM and 4 about 85% of 1RM. At least that is what makes the most sense in my mind. So warmup into SET 1: 8 reps of 75% of your 1RM SET 2: 6 reps of 80% of your 1RM SET 3: 4 reps of 85% of your 1RM increase weight then: SET 1: 7 reps of 77,5% of 1RM SET 2: 5 reps of 82,5% of 1RM SET 3: 3 reps of 87,5% of 1RM

Hey if anyone here with any more experience with lifting than I ( a couple years) I’ve been injured in the past in my shoulders from what I think is from my pressing although I feel my form is now quite almost great compared to what it used to be. The only question I still have is on the concentric phase of the bench press are the lats still supposed to be engaged and tight /scapula depressed ? To properly use the pectorals I feel a certain degree of lat lengthening needs to happen for the scapula and shoulder to move properly
@mathized3104
@mathized3104 2 жыл бұрын
Keep your shoulder blades engaged throughout the lift (down and pinched), but the lats should somewhat stay engaged however you can release some of the tension to help provide force to move the bar. Chris Duffin has a solid video detailing his method of using lat tension to provide force in his bench. Your shoulder blades must maintain tightness or else ROM will be increased throughout the lift and thus tension will also be increased. If your lats are properly engaged and you are using them to derive force, then your elbows should maintain a stacked position, if not it means you need more lat engagement. If you cannot maintain proper lat and shoulder tension, try messing around with different arch styles and hand positions. A greater arch means a high touch point, and if the chest is closer to the bar and you are on the bench, then the shoulder blades must be more depressed and therefore more locked in place.

I'm currently benching 405 for 10 reps at 190 pounds. The last time I tested my 1RM I entered a meet and broke the state record. I used Candito's 6 week program but I really want to focus on bench and see how high over 500 I can get at 190. I'm currently using a bro split and it's great for hypertrophy but not sure what the best way to program for maxing out on bench would be. Any recommendations for a bench specific program?

@im the only one with this name I've always focused on hypertrophy. Simple linear progression benching once a week got me into the mid 400's. A powerlifter at my gym saw me repping 405 and said I should compete. I did 1 comp with shitty prep, no coach, and no warm up sets before stepping on the platform. Felt like shit but managed a state record. Everybody was like holy shit how long have you been powerlifting... 6 weeks lol.

@@vinny6_9 I set pull up and push up records in middle and highschool . My chest routine is usually 4 sets 6-12 reps flat bench, 4 sets 8-15 reps incline dumbbell bench, and 5 sets 15-20 dumbbell flyes. I'm a big believer in making slow steady gains by doing as little as possible to avoid overtraining and injuries. I think a lot of people overcomplicate lifting.
