Kind of on the side and off the record, Rick mentioned that he once got a job with a band playing the organ and had to fake it. Roger wasn't the only child prodigy, but Rick seemed to get banged around a lot. He talks about having to quit music for awhile to work in a factory.

On the other side of the country, Moncton NB, seen BIA concert too. Sadly-at first anyway-sound & energy was kinda low. Sitting to the side of the stage didn't help the sound quality also, for 2 of my friends struggled down in front, & said the sound was super better. - As I said, "at first" wasn''t what hoped, but 1/3 or 1/2 way thru the sound & energy picked up substantially! Overall, what a concert!!!!

Helliwell's contribution was important indeed. He is the first to play the organ. As he then steps forward to play the Sax during the interlude, Roger takes over the organ. As Roger commences with his guitar solo, John backs him up with that mouth organ harpsichord sounding thingy. Rick was a genius at creating duels between the piano and organ. They are so spot-on on the level of Procol Harem.

I love Hodgson too ( I have seen his solo shows twice), and I love McCartney from the Beatles, and I love Waters from Pink Floyd, thing is none of them are as good by themselves solo. And the rest of the guys in the band are all part of what made those bands special, and you cannot get the real deal from seeing their solo shows. The magic is very deep in the soul in those groups and even they do not fully understand it. Rick was the leader of Supertramp just like Chris Squire was the leader of Yes. The reason i said that was that Rick was more committed to the band, Roger wrote for himself, and if you look at what he did as far as writing after he left, he never accomplished any good songs on his solo albums that can compare to Supertramp.
