Supertramp needs to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He basically moves from town to town getting love where he can.

It’s a travesty that they are not. Of course you could say that about several dozen bands. Foreigner, Jethro Tull etc etc.

@@realitybytezAnd that, right there, is one of the roads that lead to understanding that ultimately, all these brands, rankings and awards don't mean anything, nor should they, at least not yet. We are in a world where, occasionally, a song or a piece gets the amount of light it genuinely deserves (and by extension the artist(s) behind it) but more often than not, it gets more or it gets less. Therefore, one should care more about how much they enjoy a song/piece and in which situations to listen to it again, regardless of its popularity, the rewards it got or the consensus around it, especially with all the filth tainting such matters on a regular basis.

@YourEternalSoul666 Not about that at all. The names Mary and Jane are used to generalize the women he has been with. As in Jane Doe, these names are used for their generic value. There is no hidden meaning as the lyrics are very crystal clear.

@YourEternalSoul666 they called marijuana Mary Jane during the 60's and I was there. This song is not about marijuana. The lyrics make no sense when applied to the subject of marijuana ...no sense at all. It is quite literal in it's meaning.

The outro to this song gets me everytime. Each time I hear it, I feel such an emotional release, and I end up with tears (of joy) in my eyes. It's like being resurrected. It's a feeling of finally being free and breaking loose to fly to the ends of the universe. It's "eargasmic". Every single time .....

I am so glad that you liked Supertramp. For me, they on the same level as Pink Floyd. They are different, more melodic, more upbeat and keyboard based, instead of guitar based….but that is the total joy of Supertramp. They have many, many amazing songs….lets take a trip together with Supertramp….LOVE IT❤️❤️❤️

I think the song is about a guy that just goes from town to town, having very casual relationships with women with the knowing attitude that he will not be committing to anything but will get what he wants and then moves on all because he must be free! I believe it is camouflaged condemnation of that callous attitude. The music presents an exciting and even exhilarating backdrop that hides the pain he leaves in his wake.

100% incorrect and it appears you bought into some type of silly fabrication. There is not even one example within the lyrics that in any way coincides or relates to the use of the names Mary and Jane as being a reference to marijuana aka...Maryjane. The lyrics are so straightforward that seeking a hidden meaning is silly. Seriously, whomever made up that nonsense had zero reading comprehension skills and was counting on others to set aside their own.

Hello *Andrei* & *Domenika,* My preferred song by *Supertramp.* I know most of the people prefer *"The logical Song".* But this one is my anthem. In the early 80s, I listened to it in the morning on my Walkman way to college. This song made me want to pass in front of the school without entering and continue my path toward other horizons and adventures. It's a hymn to freedom. When it came time for the wah-wah guitar solo, I felt frustrated because the sound dropped as if the solo was not finished. And I wanted it to continue, not stop there, at the gates of my college. And, in this way, I can continue my way. It's as if the two are intertwined. Peace, folks. ☮😉
