Far and away the most important thing I wish I knew before I bought my cans was the value of PEW Science. Save yourselves the stress and annoyance of asking for opinions and look at hard data from the closest thing we have to an objective suppressor rating system.

I'd also say warranty. Know if your suppressor manufacturer has your back for even minor questions, or if they'll leave you behind if you have a baffle or end cap strike.

Dude! That is a very solid point. I didn’t think to include it in this video. I probably should have. But to be honest, I only have so much experience with each companies warranty programs. For example, I can tell you some very bad things about Sheirff and some very great things about Silencerco. But I only have my personal experiences and my clients experiences. So it would be difficult for me to quantify it. But you totally bring up a solid point. Thank you for your positive feedback, Back and Support.

Things that truly matter in silencers: 1. Customer service, a lot of companies have pathetic warranties or just care about military contracts, then there's otter creek lol 2. Materials, you want this thing to last a long time after paying a premium and jumping through hoops to get it, so learn what materials are good for what you are shooting and your firing schedule. 3. The rest, price, features, weight, look at pew science data

A little thing to add with the "longer is better" the big difference is internal volume of the can. There are more advanced designs that get the job done with less volume, but for apples to apples designs more volume is your friend. A big factor people overlook is diameter. The Anthem series from liberty precision is for the most part the quietest can for its length. They accomplish this with obviously a good design but they also bump up diameter. An increase in diameter will be more effective on changing volume than the same change in length.

A lot of these problems can be solved by running and buying a firearm that you're going to set up to run only suppressed buy an 11.5 in AR pistol then SBR that thing put a stock on it buy suppressor and use that as your suppressed weapon and run that set up like that all the time that will mitigate the length issue and you can change buffer tube springs and an adjustable gas block to ensure it's going cycle properly and not be over gassed then run some type of optic some back up iron sights and a decent flashlight a good sling and you'll have a decent battle rifle that will only have a barrel length of about 16 in with the suppressor on it

Point of impact shift has more to do with baffle clipping than resonance. Clips are notches cut into the baffles in order to disrupt the laminar flow of how gases through the baffle stack. This imparts a small but consistent poi shift, as long as the clips are lined up in the baffle stack and their timing with the barrel says the same

Great video. However as you point out there is no perfect suppressor so you have to make the trade offs. I’ve found that for me…back pressure, weight and size are all priorities over sound suppression (except for 9mm/pistol caliber cans and 300blk where sound suppression is first and only on the list). I say this because any supersonic round is going to dominate the sound out of the rifle, the quietest can can’t make this sound any better. The HUXWRX 762 flow is close to my ideal can. I has great suppression, it’s super light and it’s short. It is thick but I’ll take that given all the other benefits.

Been there, done that. I bought a Rugged Micro 30K. I like that you can make it shorter by unthreading the end piece, so that is cool. But the mount, which is not removable, is poorly designed in my opinion. It does not securely hold the can on the muzzle. Just two tiny little camming pawls. it's shit. My next can will have the standard 1 3/8 threads so I can mount what even mount I want. Prob just direct thread, since it's a 10" .300 barrel and the can just lives on the rifle.

The world of suppressors does have a lot to consider… schedule of fire is one- titanium is meant for slower rates of fire, if you get it too hot it will begin to suffer from heat erosion and cause your can to become less performant over time. Additionally is night operations- admittedly more rare, but need to consider that Ti cans also spark more at night. But they do also cool faster (in general)

@@yonotmyname that is a solid topic! In the 22 long rifle video we’re going to be talking about serviceability. In the other suppressors service ability is not a very high priority. Do any manufacturers make suppressors that have the bulk of the suppressor behind the end of the existing muzzle connection? Could be used on mid length barrels with extra ahort rails.. someone explain to me why I have never seen this please.
@wfuller500
@wfuller500 2 ай бұрын
POI only really matters for those with precision rifles. The modularity is nice but his point is weird. I don't understand why you need 3 suppressors for the same barrel. That point was weird. However the ability to change length, barrel caps and quick attachments I agree. Just get a multi cal. Then back pressure just run piston driven. Or easy adjustable gas systems. You aren't really changing gas system if you know you are gonna throw a can on.

I’m definitely lucky to be my age in this time of suppressors. I’m a 24 year old husband and father and With the data from Jay at PewScience, along with having lots of buddy’s with different cans, allowed me to make very informed decisions on my can purchases. I have a CGS SCI SIX, a CAT WB, a CAT ODB, a CGS Hydra 22. And I started off in the form1 community for my first can so I got to do a lot of research about how cans work. And this age of hybrid designs and DMLS 3D printing is revolutionizing what’s possible with suppressors

If you were to pick a dedicated 5.56 suppressor for a 16" mid-length AR, what would you go with? For the past year I've been trying to decide on a suppressor for my 16.1" LWRCI IC DI but for the life of me I can't decide. From what I've gathered so far the "k" can category doesn't justify its size / weight when the next size up has huge gains as far as suppression, "both visual and sound" is concerned..... I really wish there was a place I could go and actually try out or atleast watch / listen to a variety of suppressors compared to one another.
@Ertactical
@Ertactical 3 ай бұрын
@@TerminalM193 that’s a really good question, the real answer is there is no perfect suppressor. It really depends on the mission. So I don’t want to evade the question but I will say that I’m very happy with the Hucks Work suppressors. Because of their lack of back pressure. In other words, if I was going to train with it regularly and I didn’t want a whole ton of gas in my face and I have to clean my gun all the time I like those suppressors. But the truth is, they’re just not quite enough. So if I’m going to go hunting, I like using the nomad L titanium. This is a great suppressor for all our use but it is very high back pressure so you need to mitigate that back pressure with some form of a device. In one of our next videos will be talking about how to mitigate pressure and some of the tools that exist for this. Stay tuned for more, thank you for your supportand positive feedback. I wish I had a shorter answer, but the truth is as an instructor. Who does this for a living many things are conversations not simple answers.

@@boejiden1942 I don’t have one of those yet. For several reasons. In all honesty when I bought that line of suppressors, I expected to dislike them having experience with their original models. I was surprised how much I like them. So now I’m diving much deeper into low back pressure suppressors. I’m holding off to see how well BNT performs before. I decide what to buy next.thank you for your positive feedback and support

Depends on the application, but generally yes. You save a good amount of weight when not using a hub and adapter, among other benefits. If you know that you want a suppressor to live on a rifle, slap some red locktite and thread it on.

My first can was a rimfire and I got robbed I never did any real research though the suppressor worked ot all right I didn't know about the materials it was sealed I was told I could use a bore brush and c 3:57 caustic cleaners I'm glad I never rtird that a few years later the company offered a deal they would replace the baffles with steel or titanium it could be opened as long as you didn't have to many rounds thrue it I picked titanium for the baffles still light weight but cleaners could be used and I found the best bet was to loosen the cap while it was still hot soak it in a cleaner and after a day it was easy to clean the baffles.

"Ammunition" by Ian V Hogg Suppressed Ammunition and Cast Acrylic Sabots that disintegrate when exiting the barrel sending a pristine round down range with complete ballistic stability and increased terminal velocity and no internal ballistic data is easily accomplished. It makes a great varmint round and in down times one can reload a round if you don't hit bone.

Number 5 was the reason for me to return to muzzle brakes. Spending a lot of money on reloading components, having your ideal load dialed in that you're satisfied with at long range, going well over 70% hit ratio only to find out you the only thing a suppressor did was make you lose money on those reloading components, wasting precious ammo due to the poi shift they ALL have. For precision shooting, it was the biggest waste of money for me.

The Ventum is a FLOW762Ti core inside of a sleeve. Per PEWScience analysis, the 762Ti is outperformed by the CAT ODB at the muzzle and within 0.3 at the ear. That’s before you take into account the fact that HUXWRX has said on their Instagram that the move away from their proprietary muzzle devices leads to a decrease in performance, due to the way that their muzzle devices channel gasses into the flow paths. The ODB is also like $400 cheaper, and has very similar impact on weapon kinematics. I have nothing against HUXWRX, I own two of their cans (an HXQD556 and a CASH9k). But facts are facts.

Do your own research, make notes, ask questions. Only you know what you want and need. No one else cares, but will try and sell you something they wang to sell. Make an informed decesion purchase and you will be happy! There is No "One Can to Rule Them All", but there are some good choices to cover a lot of calibers! This can make your money go farther, especially if you want a suppressor to run on several guns!

#5 and #2 are really kinda irrelevant. Once you own a suppressor (or more than one) there is virtually no incentive to shoot suppressor free. So impact shift and modularity become non factors. The biggest thing you should know before you get a suppressor is STOP WAITING and get your first. And don't do too much hair splitting in the decision making.
