It is illegal to lie to congress. Impeachable offense. Problem is, nobody in congress has the balls to bring charges.

The recently revealed behaviors of Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito regarding questionable financial gifts and disclosures are bad enough. The more recent incident of Justice Alito flying the American flag upside down at his home in sympathy for the "stop the steal" movement disgusts me beyond words. I am a decorated gulf war veteran who served ten years in the Navy defending my country and the flag for which stands and this behavior, especially from a supreme court justice, shows me that I now have to defend my country not just from foreign enemies but also from my neighbors. That sickens me to my soul. And it's not just Thomas and Alito. At their senate confirmation hearings Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett all three said that Roe v. Wade was decided law, had been challenged AND UPHELD several times and they did not intend to challenge it. ALL THREE OF THEM LIED! Like many Americans I have filled out applications for a number of jobs in my life. One thing I remember that was on every application for employment I ever filled out was a paragraph just above the signature line. It states that you understand that lying on this application is cause for immediate dismissal. Apparently that does not apply to supreme court justices. These matters are made worse yet by Chief Justice Roberts who apparently has no control of his court. Is it coincidence that all of the justices addressed herein are republicans appointed by republican presidents. Only one of which ascended to the White House by a majority of the popular vote. This is what happens when you live in a country experimenting in Minority Rule. The Constitution states that Justices "shall hold their Offices during good Behavior." This means that the Justices hold office as long as they choose and can only be removed from office by impeachment. It's time for congress to get off it's ass and save our country from these liars and cheats!

The problem with Trump's bumpstock ban is that it uses a law related to machine guns. The way a bumpstock works is inconsistent with the definition of a machine gun because the trigger still needs to be pulled for each round fired. That's why the ban was overturned. If they want to actually ban them, then they need to create a new law specifically related to the bumpstocks, and get it through the house and senate.

It's obviously "Red Flag Alito" :)

You can bump fire regardless if you have a bump stock or not. Banning bump stocks wouldn't prevent bump firing. The cyclic rate of a semi automatic is IDENTICAL to a fully automatic weapon of the same model.

Machine guns weren't outlawed in the 30s. The Valentine massacre was committed with Thompsons but the reason why it was super effective was that the gang members disguised themselves as police. The result would be the same even if each member only had a handgun. The opposite gang members were executive facing a wall - defenseless.

For the record, the bump stock itself doesn't turn the weapon into an "automatic", it in no way modifies the trigger mechanisms, it simply allows the body of the rifle to reciprocate back and forth using its own momentum from recoil as it is fired.. the fact is there is almost zero accuracy because you have to physically pull forward on the rifle as you're firing it for it to work..but that is how they are getting around the "machine gun" laws, because it doesn't actually modify the trigger.. I am a firearm Enthusiast but I also have no problem with common sense gun laws, and see no reason for bump stocks whatsoever.. I found this show accidentally and absolutely love it, vote blue! The bumpstock is an end run around a law to outlaw fast firing weapons. It has no other purpose. That should have been easy enough to see and to rule on that.

I live in Canada and we have a fraction of mass shootings compared to the US and we still have too many. I don't understand America's lust for guns. The funny thing is a lot of gun shootings in Canada are guns that were brought over the border illegally from the US. The mistake was in the language used to initiate the ban. It appears (to me) it was crafted lazily and that allowed it to be overturned. Thomas decision was accurate as crappy and foul of a person he is. Bump stocks do not in fact make a semi auto a full auto violating NFA law. They are dumb little tools that let a person spray more bullets faster with a bit less energy if done right and anyone could get one. If the language drafted to initiate the ban was damn tighter it would have not been so easy to overturn. Did they consult with any kind of professional at all in drafting it? Smh

You can’t have this conversation without addressing correlation between psychiatric medication prescriptions and mass shootings. The first mass shootings in the US were LSD influenced, the kids from Columbine were on prescription psychotropics, and now it’s impossible to pull medical records of these shooters. Doctors pass out psychotropic medication like candy and their first customers are often children who haven’t fully developed morality yet. I really believe that humans are capable of responsibly owning many of these weapons for the most part, like the cartels in Mexico aren’t causing mass shootings, however you mix this kind of power with perception altering drugs and you have a big problem. Both the gun lobby and pharmaceutical lobby will not let us fight back on this issue in any sensible way.

This ruling DOES NOT apply for Glock switches. To my understanding those are still PRINTABLE AUTO SEERS which legitimately do alter the function of the trigger. They DO enable multiple rounds fired per SINGLE FUNCTION of the trigger. That does satisfy the legal definition of a machine gun. If people take issue with bump stock bans then have Congress author a bill that is more competently written. Stop whining about guns when you guys are clearly ignorant on them.

The court was correct in their ruling. A bump stock does not make a semi automatic firearm a machine gun. The trigger still functions for each shot making it semi auto. The court also said that bump stocks can be banned, but congress must be the one to ban them. The ATF does not have the authority to just ban something because congress fails to.

The reason why SCOTUS correctly struck down the ban on bump stocks is that the ATF is changing the definition of the law. The ATF, the executive agency has NO authority in doing so. The definition of what a machine gun is, is defined by being able to fire more than 1 round per FUNCTION of the trigger. Bump stocks are any such similar device does NOT alter the function of the trigger or the seer. Anybody states otherwise doesn't work on firearms and has NO technical knowledge on the subject. It is a huge issue for the government, in whole or in part, to be able to simply change LEGAL definitions which carry the weight of the law. Creating law is the domain of CONGRESS the LEGISLATIVE branch not the executive branch aka the ATF. Same argument against the ridiculous pistol braces turning guns into short barreled rifles.

SCOTUS did rule that the Trump Administration lacked the power to alter existing law via Executive order. If there is a need for a bump-stock ban, CONGRESS must enact such via LEGISLATION.
