That's because our government doesn't serve the citizens. Our government serves the giant corporations and uber-rich individuals that bought all the politicians elected to power. Change the laws to prevent the massive money contributed to politics, and we'll see the representation start to switch to the people.

It's because the health insurance companies co-opted medicare when Congress tinkered with the laws establishing Medicare. We need to pressure Congress (by showing which Congressperson gets money, I mean donations) into getting rid of these parasite companies. One reform I'd advocate is to pay the Medicare recipient (patient) directly instead of companies getting the money.

I’m a Canadian, I had a minor heart attack. One night in local hospital to be stabilized that night I was transported by ambulance 75 miles to a short stay cardiac care unit in that hospital. The next morning angiogram followed by angioplasty 1 stent. This took 22 minuets. Five hours later I rode home with a family member stoping on the way for meds. I’ve been fine ever since. My cost $85.00 for my initial dose of prescription drugs following that it costs me $12.00 per month. WITH NO INSURANCE! If you’re in a life threatening situation in Canada you get looked after, quick. Hope you proud tax paying Americans stand up and get it some day. Keep giving them s**t Chris.

It ended up going to a collection agency that ended up suing me in court and winiing the judgement. They put a lean on my bank to take what they could get and luckily I did'nt have much. I did work out a monthly payment with them, ugh!!! What I really want brought to the forefront that could help people like me on a fixed income is the collection agencies buy this debt for around 3-5% and why didn't the hospital just ofeer me to buy the debt for the same cost?

Because we'd rather pay more for health care and keep all those doctors, nurses and secretaries busy shuffling useless bits of paper around and get paid $50/hr or more. Single payer would put several million people out of work because they'd no longer need them for all that insurance BS.

Ouch. Sorry you needed so many repairs there bionic Canadian. I'm glad you didn't have to go into eternal debt because of it. I'm happy to have paid my taxes to help you and others. Now it's my turn to make a withdrawal. I just hurt my knee two weeks ago. Long wait at the ER but zero cost to get xray and CT scan, then full leg fiberglass splint to keep it immobile. Back after a week for reassessment, filled out form for a future MRI, had splint off because it was loose when swelling went down, opted myself to not get fiberglass again and instead pay out for a removable velcro closure stabilizer. Maybe my work insurance will pay 80 percent of the $100 for it, maybe they won't but that's all I had/chose to pay because I want to shower instead of taking a face cloth bath from a basin of water. Hopefully my appointment in two weeks with the orthopedic surgeon won't reveal a need for surgery but if it does I won't have to pay. The only financial worry is the loss of wages because I work standing and can't right now. I can't imagine how I would feel if my injury was going to steal money from my son's education fund. Is the Canadian health care system perfect? Heck no. Over 12 hours of waiting at the ER is too long. We need more doctors. I don't see why the Americans can't show us up by having universal health care and doing it better than we do. Make us jealous. We'll secretly be proud of them.

*Former healthcare worker, specializing in claims; physicians representative. Insurance classifies a standard visit in 2 ways: 1. New patient visit at a MDs office $500-$600 by average in Dallas, TX. Ins pays: $150ish. 2. Established patient $400-$475. (Expires after 5 years.) Ins pays $250ish It's very important you read your EOB from your insurance each claim. $elf Pays are asked to pay about what reimbursement insurance offers. They may go on either side of that a little bit. Some practices will not budge off of what they're billing the insurance. Once, my family was told it was a solid $500 New Patient as a Self-Pay. Self Pays can be a responsibility.

ALL governments are socialism in action. This is irrespective of the method of government (i.e.: Democracy, Theocracy, Autocracy, and, yes, as misguided as it is, Communism). Government is a social construct to take small amounts of resources from those within its state in order to (presumably) expend such resources to the benefit of all (i.e.: roads, protection, etc.). Capitalism, on the other hand, is an extraordinarily powerful engine of economic growth, which is why so many western-style countries use it. This economic system has flaws, as all systems do, which is why any government using such an economic system must use taxation and social distribution to ameliorate them. Sometimes (though, hopefully, rarely), this can go the other way, where a government must assist a sector of businesses (or even all - remember COVID?) to get through unforeseen problems and keep that economic engine primed during such times. The sooner that our citizens realize how this all works and expresses their will, the sooner that we get paid education through college and healthcare for our citizens.

I’m a Disabled Combat Veteran with MS. I receive my MS infusions through the VA that is free for me. Without insurance or additional assistance, this would work out to an annual cost of just over $83,000 per year. This is because Ocrevus is given initially as 2 separate infusions of 300 mg, 2 weeks apart. Then 1 infusion of 600 mg every 6 months. We can’t claim to be “the richest country in the world” and also not have socialized healthcare. It’s insane and sad that people have to go in debt because they have an illness that they can’t prevent.

2018 picked up a I-miev for going to work. Cost $9k (used). Way less then $3k on insurance, tires, air filter, battery and few other minor items. Put 25k miles on it over next 4yrs. Got totaled in a Arby drive thru, got $7.5K from insurance. So for $5k I got to drive 25k miles or 20 cent/mile + electric, but I have solar at home and charged at work as well for free. I even was allowed to park my car on campus next to my office and use it like a golf cart during the day because it was so small. Best car for leisure Sunday drive. I'm riding a motorcycle now, because I've always wanted one. But it's currently running $1+/mile discounting purchase price. I'm sure it will go down over time, but it is hard to beat an EV for running costs.

AMEN BROTHER!! Love how you speak the truth. I was caught up in this same healthcare BS. I had a lump in the left side of my groin. After 6 months of scheduling, I was finally able to see a doctor. It was determined I had an 'unknown' object in my groin. The oncologist who was consulted, looked at the tests/ x-rays and was quoted as saying "What the F is that?" So my doctor reluctantly scheduled me for surgery to excise this object. it wasn't a long procedure and it was able to be removed without problems. The doctors were not sure what it was so it was sent in for a biopsy. It took them another 6 months to determine it was a non-cancerous 8oz. tumor (which I named Tommy). I was left in limbo wondering if I was healthy or not! Just the stress of not knowing what's going on in my own body gave me anxiety and panic attacks (which they want to give me meds for to the tune of $900 a month, and also are not covered by my insurance). Our government REALLY needs to figure this sh!t out!!

They found me then they fixed me up with Drugs such as Antidepressants and other drugs that are for 1 thing but prescribed for another, I slept for 10 years not even understanding why I was so sick and in Pain they wouldn't treat.. About 3 years ago they started pressuring me to go to a methadone clinic for pain knowing I did not use opiates or street drugs.. They kept changing my arthritis meds and such until I caved one day and went to the clinic , I died for real within 30hrs of taking methadone !1 Then they overdosed me 4 more times in the ER trying to treat me like i was a heavy drug user. I quit going to doctors learned how to treat myself and I have NO Pain, And am back to work and ready to drop disability.. Now I'm Smiling and Happy !! Thank You for Questioning these Crooks.. The profit motive is what keeps them churning. CEOs making millions. Traded on Wall Street as a privatized corporation. Medicare is one huge business they all want BUT it only covers 80%. When I was pregnant, my husband's employer wouldn't cover prenatal care because no other man in the department had a wife. My husband works for the government. I had to get prenatal care from my regular doctor until 2012, when part of the ACA kicked in, allowing women's reproductive care to be covered. When I got the bill from the insurance company, I learned that they were charging me $1100 for every time that I held my infant. Plus I was charged $500 for socks, $2000 for Tylenol, $1500 for TV, $1000 for sanitary napkins, etc. When I called the health insurance company about this, they were surprised that I read the bill and they took those charges off. The rep said that they pad the billing hoping that we just blindly pay it and most do. We're being conditioned to accept that corporations are our new government.

I worked in a hospital fixing life support and diagnostic equipment. The hospitals are not quadrupling the prices of the “little plastic tube” or anything else. Hospitals are getting screwed by THE VENDORS that are forcing the hospitals to pay insane markup’s on everything that goes into it. An MRI suite here in the USA from GE is millions of dollars but the same MRI suite is less than a million dollars to hospitals outside the USA. A $2.00 outlet costs $10 or more because it has a green dot and is “hospital grade”. It’s the same deal with companies charging $300 for a hammer to the military. Greed.
