This is a overview of the Sur-Ron electric bike. What a great bit of kit and its going to make my commute to works much easier. The only thing you really need to looks out for is if you leave the bike parked up somewhere that its locked to something as at 48Kg its easy to pick up and move.
But go out and test ride one. You will be surprised.
Thanks to Steve @stagmotorcycles.co.uk for the demo rides and help.
Thanks to Bensound for the music.
Any questions or tips for the bike please comment below. I am going to try and get a ride video in as soon as I have a camera that can record it.

Hey. Thanks for the vid. I got a couple of these for me and my son. So much fun and no irritated people around. Only curious ones 😎 But about the regen. It is the opposite. Regen on sport, not on eco mode. About times for me in the woods. Speeds between 3-4 km/h up difficult rocks to 40 km/h on straights. Have been out 2,5 hours with 50% batterylife left 😊 Im about 95 kilos fat 😊

Yes they are so much fun. I also asked the guys about the regen and being used to an Nissan Leaf and BMW i3's regen its not so strong. I am hoping that in the next versions we will get an option to set the regen via an app and be able to customise your ride like Segway do on there Onewheel Electric unicycles. The more regen the more power you can put back in the battery so a win win. Enjoy riding with your son and they are great for exploring.

So true, I just hope they keep on developing it so it gets better. For the UK I would like to see much better weatherproofing on the battery and the turn signal cluster. I would also like to see maybe two models, a lower power model like the one available now and then a pro version that has more power. Also some app connectivity to change riding profiles and see ride details. But awesome bike.

Hi, i'm from the Netherlands and i am also looking for something to commute with. I also life at the countryside and have to do 12 km single. So 24 km a day. But i do not want this to take ages and also needs me to give a bit of fun. Otherwise i'll be jumping in my car very quickly. Is this the same bike as the Suron X Black Edition ? But with the blinkers and speed restriction ? Is it also possible to cut a cable and give it full speed ? If this is the case it would probably also be possible in the future to change the battery to 72 volts with a new controller ? Greetings from the Netherlands,
@Andre-Mostert

Hi Kees and thank you for the the comment. This one I had was the stock standard SurRon Light Bee. Its not the upgraded version. You can get them here in the UK in the offroad version that is unrestricted to 45mph and then you have the one you see here that is restricted to 30mph so it can fall under the UK law of a moped and you have to have bike license and it needs to be registered and taxed. As far I understand to unrestrict it its not that difficult and there are loads of people that has done it. But its the risk you take. But all that aside, its a great little bike and so much fun if you are a light rider, I am 72kg. It handled my 15 miles round trip to work and back with out any problems even in the depths of winter. There are so many mods out there now for them and because most of the parts are MTB parts they are very well priced compared to motorbike parts. I also found that the insurance was high for such a small bike and they are light and can be carried away. So a good solid lock is a good idea. The new ones are more weatherproofed compared to mine but I covered the battery with a bag when it was standing in the rain the whole day at work. Shout if you have more questions.

Question!!!! I am about to buy this bike. But I dont like the looks of the blinkers and break light above the back tire. Is there any way to put it under the back of the seat? Also... if you remove that whole thing with the blinkers... is there not another break light under the seat? So if you remove that.. there's no break light in the back... correct?
@Andre-Mostert
@Andre-Mostert Ай бұрын
There are people that remove the massive back part and relocate the brake light to under the tail. The only thing to watch out for is when the shock compresses that is does not hit the tail light. They replace it with a slimmer version. This is the same for the blinkers. I know the guys in the US go for the brake light with the integrated blinkers but here in the UK its a bit hard to find. Great little bike and massive amount of fun. If you buying in the UK just make sure you spend the money to get a solid secure lock or chain as they steal these bikes like hot cakes. Also for insurance looking at Lexham but again read the fine print as most companies dont cover the bikes when they are not locked with a solid secure lock. Hope this helps.

It was not that bad, its not road tyre smooth but it was not as bad as when I rode a BMW with offroad tyres. I used it right through winter. You just need to be careful when the roads are wet and cold as you riding on the edge knobbies and can be very slippery. I did not have any troubles with sliding out and I did use it on the road for my daily ride into work and back. Just a side note. You need to look at a solid secure lock for the bike as they are light and easy to steal. One of the things the insurance guys made me aware of otherwise they dont pay out at all. @@Andre-Mostert Good to know! I am planning to use it all year around so it is good to know it is possible to use it as winter tires also if beeing very careful. Yes, I have two motorcycle insurance disc locks but is probably a great idea to get a chain lock for it so a thief cant lift it away.

Yes this is true. Lexham told me because it was in the agreement that if the bike is not locked with a sold secure rated lock and its not anchored you are on your own. @Andre-Mostert 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Joel, the SurRon comes in two versions, the full road version with all the bits that makes it comply with the UK law and its classed as a moped. By default its limited to 30mph to fall in the moped class. Then all you do is get insurance and you are sorted. If you buy the offroad version then you need to get all the bits to make the bike road legal and that is way too much money. But that is it. If you want more information chat to the guys at stagmotorcycles.co.uk/ they are super helpful. Just remember the range is not going to be the same as a 125cc scooter. Hope that helps and shout if you have more questions.

There is no legal way to make it faster as it must comply with the moped specifications of not being able to go faster than 30mph. The offroad version does go to 45mph. I have seen on some other videos where the guy do the unlock to 45mph on the road version. But if you want to stay on the right side of the law then you are limited to 30mph, license and insurance. As far I understand the unlock is a simple change. Hope this helps.

Yes you can, both the on road and offroad versions are the same motor and X controller. The road version is restricted to comply here in the UK to the moped speed limit that is 30mph. But I have seen people install a little bypass switch that links up to the sport button that give it the same top speed as the off road version. Very simple to do from what I have seen. At Stag they sell two versions, the full road version and the full off road version. The trick with the bypass switch is usually from other guys modding their bikes (forums and youtube). If you mod your bike its your responsibility as the insurance is not going to pay out if they find out your bike is not restricted to 30mph according to the law. Dont want to sound like a dad lol

Hi, there's a setting to actually disable the speed limiter, you would have to do this every time but its better than losing your warranty, in my opinion. What you would need to do is either use the front brake or kickstand (depends on what is used to change settings like energy braking). All you do is 5 short and 1 long, your screen will mark C0, this means that you no longer have restricted speed limit.

Hi there thank you for the questions and I will try and get to all of them. 1. Ok so for insurance I had to go with Lexham as they are one of the few companies that insure electric motorbikes. I have my BMW with Carol Nash and they dont do electric bikes. That is bad as they are one of the big ones. I got away with 3rd party fire and theft for £250. I found phoning them to get the best result. Also you need to have the bike locked always otherwise they dont pay out. Also needs to be an approved lock. So you need to factor that in. Its because the bike is so light that anyone can pick it up and move it. 2. Yes you can. Its a simple switch that you can install to take the 30mph limit off. I get 45mph and with my bike gear on I weight 80kg. You can also change the sprocket at the rear to get a bit more speed but you loose some torque. I love the get away more than the speed. 3. I got mine as a demo model and it was 4000 pounds. It had all the extras on, carbon rear fender, mud guards and carbon sump guard. The new ones go for 4500 for the road and I think a little less for the offroad version. 4. Best to mail Steve at Stag motorcycles and ask him. If he does not do then he might be able to point you to someone that can. You can also join the facebook group UK to see if anyone is selling theres for cheaper or use comparethemarket to sort out finance. Yes its a great little bike to ride. This is more the size of a mountain bike that a motorbike. I ride into Reading daily and this is perfect to beating the traffic as where the big bike cannot filter this one does with ease. I am running the MX tyres and they are not that great on the road but I am going to run them down and then get some flat track style ones. Also all the spare on these bikes are mountain bike parts so its much cheaper to replace. But give Steve a call and go and visit his shop and ride the bike. Even if he can look out for a bike for you he is your man. Keep me posted and I hope this helps.

It also comes with all the bits needed for that, indicators, bigger front lights, rear light and numberplate holder. The offroad version does not come with all the road bits and its also unrestricted and can go up to 45mph a little faster if you change the sprocket. Hope that helps.

How much insurance do you pay

So in the UK the road version like what you see in the video is classed as a moped. So the same rules apply. The insurance was through Lexham as they were the only ones that knew about the bike and was happy to insure. I was paying about £250 a year. This is allot of money for a very small bike. But it was getting me to work and back and not costing me much to run. I think the insurance would also be based on where you live and how high the risk is. Hope this helps.

Yes because I am old lol. When you are young its not easy to get insurance. It might be worth looking at only fire and theft rather than full cover. That is what I did. I just bought a massive sold secure lock that also covers me for a £1000. Good luck

@@xboxice2005 Nice one, as far I know you can still use the eco mode to drop it down to the scooter 30mph speed. Then full speed with the full power button.

@@Andre-Mostert the uk sur-ron shop sells them. But 80% of people that buy the l1e they swap out the lights and wires. I'm hoping to find a stock l1e lighting set up for very cheap or near free. Buying just the light is $40 than i need the light bracket another $7 also could use the wires another $70 for a full wire harness for the l1e. The speedometer is around $30-$40 the front cover another $10 it all adds up lol 😆 and its not even near the best lights BUT with some simple mods new bulbs or led chips could make it work. I've piced together a full lighting kit i have everything needed and its not bad but its not plug and play each piece is a different brand so have to wire it all up. I mapped each wire but still dont fully understand how to wire in a fuse relay the sig relay and the switch
