I've vacationed at topsail island the last 15years. North topsail to south topsail. It is my favorite place on this earth. My mother graduated from Jacksonville highschool and my father was a marine stationed at camp lejune. There is trash everywhere, not the islands fault. Many great memories on this island.

Been going to SurfCity n Toosail Island sine I was a kid love fishing at the sea view n jolly rodger piers use to camp at surf city family campground about 20 -25 years ago lived in sneeds ferry for a while great video

I have been going to Topsail on family vacation for over 40 years continuously. The worst thing about the beach is the loss of the fishing piers to hurricanes (which there used to be one about every half mile). The consequence is that there is now constant fishing off of the beach where kids are trying to play in the water. I highly recommend renting a beach front house on Topsail (in any town). The weekdays are calm and you can have uninhibited access to the area directly in front of your house just as you could in the 80's. It is still a great vacation spot!

I appreciate your comment Carl! We’ve noticed that as well. Definitely a little annoying sometime when people cast out around kids… but overall, a great place to vacation and live!

We’ve been vacationing in surf city for 5 years now and it is perfect for our little family. We tried to save time and cost a couple years ago and went to Virginia Beach because it was closer and What a joke! It was horrible! I said never again. We will always drive the extra 4 hours to make it to the calm Carolina’s! I know people say that it is built up and getting crowded…but seriously any other east coast beach is 20x times worse. We will never again go to Maryland, jersey, or Virginia. People are nice and the crowds are minimal compared to anywhere else. Also if surf city is too crowded there is so many other beaches within a half hour drive and at least one of them is always calm. We drove down the coast and really enjoyed Holden (for shelling) and Sunset Beach for the silky sand. Southern Hospitality is so real! I keep trying to talk my fam into moving down there. It may have some bad and ugly parts but i promise you, try vacationing anywhere else and there will be NO complains about the Carolinas ❤❤❤

Thank you for this! Yes surf city is truly one of my favorite spots and it’s a lot less busy than many other vacation hubs. I understand locals perspective, but it should honestly make them happy that they live here 🤙🏼

I was kayaking in Surf City in 2018 at the rotating bridge. I was right under it and that damn alarm went off. i almost had a digestive disaster.

Surf City is completely ruined now - was nice about 20-25 years ago. Way over built and commercialized, too busy, too crowded, building on every square inch. Has lost what made it special, lost it's appeal.

Well put, In about 10 years this small little town is gonna be like myrtle beach or emerald isle easily, greed for money is destroying this place

It's good this island doesn't have a ton of attractions, frickin tourists want to make this their own amusement park. Have 0 respect for the fishing island this was 30 years ago and the people who built it.

I like it because it is so laid back - not a lot of big attractions. My family is very outspoken to vacationers that disrespect the area

Rich people see a beautiful place and just have to build stuff and live on the beach and of course it's ruined by tourists... money ruins everything

ehh... it has ALWAYS been sustained by vacation rentals. "Tourists" can rarely be cited as a negative cause for anything because they are universally the life blood of the economy in a tourist town. I have been vacationing on Topsail for over 40 years (much of that time in Surf City). I do remember the days when there was only a couple rows of houses (many of them with unfinished interiors and no air conditioning) and a fishing pier nearly every half mile. It was beautiful and close to the nature. Apart from the cluttered construction that is there today, if you go after the 1st week of August, the week days are still fairly calm. Also... you think that it's cluttered now?! It was far worse during the swing bridge era. Getting off the island on the early morning of departure on Saturday has always been an exercise of waiting in line. If you want to do Topsail, rent a beach front house. That's they way to do it.

not even gonna lie the locals were kinda rude ☠️☠️☠️ and barley people of color i went there with my family and we were being stared at and mocked don’t waste your time here outer banks >>>>> surf city i’m happy you had a great time though i didn’t

I’m so sorry you experienced that! That’s extremely out of character for this area. I live here and have never had any of those issues. Outer banks are great too!

@@jackripper3624 Real local here, we genuinely do not like tourists because they crowd up our beach , litter and cause traffic jams and basically making the island a tourist attraction. No one cares about the people who were here before and helped build this island no one cares.

Bad and the ugly is more people moving there. From up north...you included!It is waaay over populated. Relaxing atmosphere? Are you kidding me? Wait hours to eat you mean... All for the $ and getting you home buyers....you're the bad and the ugly! It was amazing about 20 years ago.

I appreciate your comment but my clients can tell you that I’m not all about the money and that I do tell the truth… I give my opinion and answer the questions I had myself before I moved FROM NEW YORK.. If you don’t like it, that’s fine but your comment and view helps the algorithm
