0:00 Introduction: Stress and health
0:20 What is hormesis?
1:14 Examples of hormesis
7:52 Check out my #1 exercise hack!
In this video, we’re going to talk about the concept of hormesis. Hormesis describes two things that might oppose each other. In terms of health, hormesis refers to a controlled dose of stress that makes positive changes for your body.
With hormesis, you can adapt to various types of stress, including exercise, radiation, cold, heat, hypoxia, plant chemicals, pesticides, insecticides, and fungicides.
Sulforaphane found in broccoli sprouts and radish sprouts triggers the heat shock protein that allows the body to strengthen its detoxification enzymes. In this instance, the body is exposed to a small amount of poison that strengthens its ability to get rid of other poisons.
The liver contains phase 1 and phase 2 detoxification enzymes that can take a poison and turn it into a harmless particle. Sulforaphane triggers this system.
Exercise is one of the best examples of hormesis. Exercise induces microinflammation but then allows the body to get rid of inflammation.
Fasting activates the body’s mechanisms that counter starvation. It encourages our brain cells to grow, increases mitochondria, and regenerates the immune system.
Health is often counterintuitive. For example, cutting fat won’t help you lose fat, and sterilizing your environment won’t protect you from getting sick.
You can’t develop a strong immune system without getting sick. Antibiotics destroy good bacteria in the body, which can lead to pathogen overgrowth. Antacids can lead to more heartburn because you need more acid to get rid of heartburn.
When you don't expose yourself to the sun, you put yourself more at risk for certain types of cancers. Many people have been told that the sun causes cancer, but the sun gives us vitamin D. Having a deficiency in vitamin D can increase your risk for cancer.
One last example is dieting. The more dieting you do in your lifetime, the more weight you will gain-especially if you’re doing it incorrectly.

Thank you Doctor. I wish more doctors are honest as you are. I’m a skin specialist and I’m telling people almost every day don’t over use sunscreen, let your body adjust to sun, get the vitamin D from sun etc. I feel like from another planet sometimes how they look at me. ❤
@isabellejaubert-fried1622
@isabellejaubert-fried1622 3 ай бұрын
And I think another note on sunscreen is a highly toxic and cancerous. Don’t wait for the medical industry to decades to tell you why you’re dying of skin cancer or liver failure because when you put it on your skin, it goes straight to your liver and if you’re not willing to eat it, I would surely not place it on my skin. I make my own sunscreen have visors long, sleeved, white shirts, and very careful because I’m a surfer, but I don’t rub myself in cancer and then go on the sun and bake it in my skin. That seems pretty ill informed and dangerous.

Enough omega 3 completely protects my skin from sunburn. I use to burn within 30 minutes of sun exposure. Now, additionally to having grassfed meat 🥩 I have at least 1 tablespoon of wild caught cod liver oil a day. Sometimes experimenting with 3 a day. Now I can stay hours under the sun without burning. No more sunscreen since years.

This touches on spirituality - that all suffering is necessary, and that our obsession with avoiding uncomforrt - is the source of our suffering. Our refusal to see suffering as a positive force that leads to healing.. A great example of this is in the muscles. Most human pain, physically, is caused by muscles. Humans are not meant to sit in chairs. No matter how "ergonomical" your chair is... try to work on the computer standing for a week. See the difference in your shoulder tension and headaches. The unfortaunte reality of our world, is the vast majority of physical pain, actually comes from muscles being abused and inflamed, which puts pressure on nerves, causing pain. As Dr Berg mentions, the key to this is to stretch and "tear" those muscles. Learn to be physically active and stretch so much you hurt, you become sore. By choosing your pain on purpose, you can get rid of the pain you feel normally

@@lordraw9909 This practice might be beneficial to their health but certainly not for me.
@TrehanAdithya
@TrehanAdithya 3 ай бұрын
@@lordraw9909 This is my current understanding of this based on what I've learned from mostly others who have done the research and are knowledgeable about what they are talking about. Search these for yourself by doing your research and through others who know more. It's good and bad. It's mostly good for a person who doesn't work as humanely hard as possible both mentally & physically every single day (best suited for a lazy fk). If you are not a lazy fk, you should definitely not do cold plunges. At least not often. Cold plunges can be beneficial after waking up before your workout with things like waking your body thoroughly, making your body cold so when working out your body has to work extra hard to heat up which can help more fat burning, etc. But I don't know whether it's good to do it regularly. (I would rather do a few second cold plunge on the face) What is best to do is a sauna/warm water bath after a workout. All this red pill "cold plunges are good for you" crap is stupid. It all depends on context and situation. But mostly heat is better than cold. Why would you wanna put your body through unnecessary stress and disturb internal processes where they would otherwise be focused on working on your body? Summary - For most of the time, Heat is your friend and cold is your enemy.

While on vacation in Vegas he met a doctor who must have liked him alot because he told him about a patient invention he made oxygenating was well over 40% he is now getting FDA approved. He told my uncle and his friend what to do and they made it, it uses medical, oxygen tank to dissolve medical oxygen into the water they bottle up, it made his oxygen level normal!!! He gave my parents and me some and I can take only a table spoon and it gives me a head high and I feel it, it makes me full of energy and it makes it so I stay up all night and still refreshed. It also makes plants grow faster. He has some special way of making oxygen levels above 40%. My aunt said it shrunk a tumor but idk she says alot. What do you think?

Great video ❤ I wonder what would be mental hormesis? Which cognitive or psychological stressful activities will create similar effects? I image sustained attention or thoughtlessness or similar things. @Drberg would you make a video about this ? 🙏

Agreed…the middle path. Balance in all things. I found this out the hard way…even drank too much WATER!! Nearly killed myself…ended up in hospital with body shutting down. Couldn’t even see, talk, move or feel anything. Now, I actually HATE the taste of pure water! 😬

It’s crazy how we learn some of these things! When I was clinically dehydrated I felt repulsed by plain water and it didn’t hydrate me properly.. but craved and dreamed about watermelon, which was a game changer.

@@debrah3681 Eat NUTS and FRUITS only, but watermelon should be one of the most used food. Evans gives over twenty pages of tables of the analysis of foods, which show that fruits and nuts have the least proportion of earthy matter, as compared with their nourishing properties, of any of the foods now used by man. Next in order are animal foods, then come vegetables, and last are the pulses and cereals, which are shown to have the largest amount of earthy matter. Evans then observes, "From the foregoing analysis we see that fruits, as distinct from vegetables, have the least amount of earthy matter. Most of them contain a large amount of water, but that water in itself is the purest kind--a distilled water of Nature." So long as man must eat, the best food is fresh fruits, berries and melons. These contain fluid of the best and purest kind, distilled by natural processes. Some of these fruit juices are a wonderful solvent, opening the way into capillaries already clogged and hardened, provided the process has not gone too far. One author says that with a course of fresh grape juice, people with sunken eyes, wrinkled skin and poor complexion have made surprising improvement in recovering a younger appearance.

Hallo Dr. Berg. I excually have another question. (Off topic) My girlfriend (40 years old) suffers from Crone desease for many years now, but thats onder control. But recently she has got what we believe is rosacea on her face. Is there a relation between them? And is there anything she can do about the rosacea? There are also 2 aunts in the family that have it. Maybe (i hope) you can make a vlog on rosacea?? Many many thanks! And greetings from the Netherlands.

Dear Doctor, As your thorough assessment is welcomed and fascinated by all keto lovers, and ofcourse Im one of ‘em, follow and believe that ‘habit change’ are feasible in different parts of the body as it very necessary for me as well. Regarding the diet & prospect, You expressed, I am fully convinced and agreed to follow up the diet & the exercise. despite having few shortcomings/challenges, I want to make sure that Im officially following the prescription or methods by you or anyone from your team as well as for my better understanding & results. Ofcourse, I understand, You are very busy with your work but wondering if any chance, I could be able to talk to you or anyone from your team regarding the dietary, Would be awesome. How would you advise me to contact your team near future? Sincerely
