Yeah, I hate that it always focusses on the K chips. I just want to know the non-K as I'm not interested in my CPU drawing 250W power. I want to cap it at 65W.

Thank you for reviewing non-K CPU. I think over last past generations they offer best value, while K variants have become unnecessary and not worth your money and time, because the gap between them is now so minimal, and most of the non-K variants already boost very high. Then, the K CPUs offer minimal advantages while requiring a lot more power, cooling, and expensive mobos.

I built a workstation with the following specifications following one of your videos so I can run resolve studio efficiently - a 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-12900K 3.19 GHz - 64GB RAM - Asus ProArt z690 Creator Wifi Motherboard - 24GB GDDR6X NVIDIA GeForce TRX 3090 Ti (Dedicated Video Memory) For some weeks now, I have not been getting smooth playbacks on a 1080p timeline with 4k footage from the BMPCC 6K Pro, even with timeline proxy resolution set to Quarter, DaVinci also hangs after every single edit action for about 10-15 seconds before I can do anything else. I have set my decode option to (Intel Quick Sync) and generated proxies and optimized media yet none seems to be the solution. When I analyse the performance chart of my task manager, I noticed it's only the CPU and NVIDIA GPU that is been utilized with the maximum level reached being about 40%, the Intel(R) UHD Graphics is not been utilized at all. Please what do you suggest as a solution to solve this, It's really affecting my performance and work delivery.

Both are great, you cant go wrong with either. However I do want to point out that the 13700 and the other non-K CPUs have a minor flaw, and thats that they cant increase VCCSA in BIOS. VCCSA is used for memory overclocking, so if you want the high end DDR5 kits, like DDR5-6600 or higher youll absolutely want to get the unlocked 'K' chips.

even the weakest ddr5 4800 is far above then ddr4 3200mhz. will that even makes a difference? - I was able to increase premiere pro export speed on k series processor after installing intel hd graphics drivers. which was installed not previously - With F series processor you don't get intel hd graphics.

@@gabrielaraya3242 It depends on motherboard. ddr5 motherboards can support from 4800 5200 5600 6000mhz rams. some manufacturer can even support higher. But 5200Mhz is OK. You don't need to go for 6000 because there would not be any difference. in speed.

I’m really curious about DDR5 vs DDR4 for Prem Pro on the new CPUs… I’m thinking Intel 13700k cause of Quick sync. Really nice video, comparing the 13700k, 13700 and 13700T would be the absolute test. The 13700T is a really exciting CPU, its 35W/105W could be cooled passively or with low RPM (even at max) while potentially being an absolute workhorse. Can you please explain, how to check if a Mobo/ CPU-combo can be boosted indefinitely?

interesting you mention the "T" series, as even with 13900T they are very economical in power consumption. But can see any for sale within the T configuration.

Hey Tech Notice, could you do a video using an arc gpu with either a 4090 or rx7900xtx and using the encoders/decoders on the arc gpu with the raw compute of the bigger cards? I think it would be a cool idea to see if U could get quicksync running on an amd cpu also. Great videos, I'm not a creator right now. But I wan to be down the line and I find your videos more useful then every other review because I just simply don't play games on pcs. Thanks a ton for the hard work and awesome vids

I did a 13700 micro-ATX build recently and it's really good. I'm starting to spec out a SFF build with the same processor. I was holding out for the mythical T-variant (35W) but while they are listed as released, I have yet to see one anywhere.

@@alrizo1115 On both I used 240 AIOs. The SFF ended up being a Hyte Revolt 3, and while the AIO cooks when gaming, temps stay in thermal limits.

i got 13700f and on spiderman remastered with rtx on cpu pulls around 140-160 watts. and gets as hot as 75degrees. but only if u unlock the powerlimits.

Considering the GPU tasks are performing better in editing software on the 13700, it makes me speculate that's where the extra power usage is going to. The 13700 itself isn't necessarily using more power over the 13700k, it's the 13700's iGPU that is drawing a bit more power over the 13700k's iGPU. It might be beneficial to actually get the non k version if you're using Premiere, After Effects, or DaVinci a lot that leverages the iGPU greatly.

That’s a phenomena you see more on AMD with kids trying to overclock their Apus to get more framerate. If it’s a mobo auto clock, you’d look at the voltage going to the input bc normally you want to pull its power or shut it off in bios entirely to get more core speed. This was before e-cores and people were all about getting all core clocked clocks on intel at all costs.

I plumped for the 13700 over the K model as I wasn't planning to over clock, although have fitted it to a Z790 Mobo. £30 difference in price and you get a intel cooler with the non-K too. It's workiig fine and matching the 13700K in most tasks, but does pull up too 275w CPU package!!! before hitting 100c and throttling to about 230w. runnning with 32Gb of DDR4-3800 C16 and an old GTX960 Stryx

Great video; interesting that the 13700 bucks the trends of the lower end non-K SKU's (ie. lower model non-K lower SKU's like the 13600 are rumored to be tweaked Alder Lake dies, using Golden Cove/Gracemont; evident by lower L2 cache of 1.25 MB per P-core, and L3 cache of 2MB per e-core cluster). In comparison, Raptor lake (Raptor Cove/Gracemont) uses L2 cache of 2MB per P-core, and L3 cache of 4MB per e-core cluster... which seems to be the case for the 13700 thankfully.

I would like you to do some test touching values in the bios to improve the temperatures of the 13700, especially with air cooling, I went crazy to lower the temperatures, in Cinebench for example the cores went up to 100º, it came by default with the PL1 at 253W and PL2 at 253W, I had to put it at PL1 65W and PL2 at 195W to keep the temperatures below 90-92º, I would like to know if I did it right and if there is a better configuration.

If you undervolt, you can get higher clocks for the same wattage.

Hey! Norway here, as of today (28 Sept, 2023), and with 14th gen just around the corner (17 Oct 2023?), here are the best prices in Norwegian kroner. i13700: 5190Nkr, i13700k: 5342Nkr). Which translates to roughly $483.74 and $497.90 respectively. Not really much daylight between them, pricewise.

I built a mini itx with a 13700 and a B760 board. Its easy to just fix the voltage at something like 1.2v and the cpu wont pull as much power. Its not gonna turbo a bunch on a B760 but thats fine with me.

I just got a 13700k for $80 less than a 13700 on a "Prime Day" sale with a Z790 motherboard. The Intel graphics easily play 4K video on my 4K monitor. It's an alright cpu for my office pc. (My gaming pc is a 5800x3d & 3090)

I had read that the 13th gen chips were locked, making them unable to be underclocked. I did see Damara226 here mention that, in bios, you could change the TDP limits on the 13700 to have it mimic that of a 13700T (base 35W / Turbo 106W). Tech Notice, can you confirm this? If yes, what precise bios settings would be used to accomplish this? Thanks!

13th Gen locked CPUs (non-K) can't be under-volted. However, they can be underclocked, I used the stock cooler temporally so I had to lock it to 65W which worked well. Only issue is under volting. Sure it works but you will lose performance due to CEP (Current Excursion Protection) which can't be disabled on locked CPUs.

@@pixels_per_inch Thanks for the info. I did call up Intel and asked if the TDP values for the non-K's could be changed. The rep I spoke with said yes, you could change both the Processor Base Power (65W stock for the 13700) and the Maximum Turbo Power (219W stock for the 13700). So, If I got at 13700, I'd look to keep the Base Power at 65W and bring the Max Turbo Power down to around 105W.

My question is what do you think about such a set: Intel Core i7 13700 (without K) Gigabyte B760 Gaming X DDR4 2 x 32 GB RAM - 3600 MHz DDR4 Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Power: 850W Cooling: SilentiumPC/Endorfy Fortis 5 Dual Fan (140mm + 120mm) Case: Be Quiet! Pure Base 500DX 4 x Be Quiet Pure Wings 2 - 140mm (900 RPM) in this case I'm mainly concerned with how long the processor will be able to work under full load (theoretical situation) because it will rather be used in programs for editing videos in FULL HD / 1440p. and sometimes for games in 1440p. Do you think such cooling will work? I would like to avoid AiO type water cooling at all costs.

The only thing I can think of for the 13700 doing so well is that it's a golden cpu or even a 13700K but wasn't chosen to be a K variant but still was a lucky chip with the K variant performance.

@@Deadeye313 stock 13700K only runs 200MHz faster than stock 13700, so the difference is small of course Stock settings per Intel website: 13700K - 5.4GHz 13700 - 5.2GHz That's a difference of ~4% You're paying more for the "K" CPUs mostly because they're unlocked for overclocking, the little frequency boost at stock settings is just a bonus

K skus were rumored to run better binned silicon so you can overclock them. Letting any motherboard spray a ton of voltage on auto clock settings is stupid. The presets use way more voltage than any all core locked clock. You’re just eating power, generating excess heat, and making more noise. This is a mid tier cpu sku, auto clocks don’t tend to optimize your memory bandwidth. Just leaving alone in content creation. If you’re gaming, you can die on the manual clock hill if you want. It’s usually an exercise and you are better off liquid cooling your gpu and clocking that.

I'm using a 10700 non k but I play at 4k mostly on 2017 and older titles so it doesn't seem to hold me back yet

As long as it's working well, that's fine, but either 13700 crushes the 12700k in all benchmarks because of the extra cpu cores intel stuck on the dies and doubling the L3 cache. So at some point you might want to upgrade, but if you can wait, wait until 14th gen comes out and a 13700k or 13900k drops in price and get a big boost for just a cpu swap.

How did you get the 13700 to draw more power than the K version on stock settings? I've tried it with both the regular version and the F one, and both draw a max of 220w at 80 C. Just curious :)

Could it be microscopic contamination on the socket that explains the odd performance comparisons. According to Intel, even the most minoot amount of contamination on the socket can impact performance of the CPU.

Yesterday i bought a 13700k at my local Canada computer for 509.99.99$ CAD. The 14700K was 589.99$. For the small percentage of upgrade the 14700k offer i decided to save that 80$ for better DDR5 RAM 6000MHZ.

There was a $10 difference between the 13700 ($319) and the 13700k ($329) when I got mine at microcenter, can't say I'm bothered even if I don't overclock, the 13700k is currently $359 at Microcenter. That said for someone who does care or is trying to eek out every erg of performance for their dollar this is pretty interesting. Didn't realize this was locked on the motherboard with this gen of chips. Now we need more samples because one sample is nowhere near enough.

In your tests 13700K PL1 is blocked at 253W, therefore the temperature is less than that of 13700 without K

No seriously, how is possible those 262w for I7(non "k")??? The only reason why I'm considering it rather than 13700k (or 13600k) is because of the lower power consumption! I mean, I don't need overclocking but now and again I'll have to work on DaVinci's fusion. I start being a bit confused and depressed...

Am I being dumb? How do you set premiere up to use the igp on the timeline, but the 4080 for everything else. I did an edit last week before the 4080 arrived, and the timeline performance was epic (before I did grading, then it was unusable). Today I did my first edit with the 4080, cuda accelerated, and the timeline was worse I think 😬

Is the 13700k really runs hotter and difficult to cool than the 13700 ?? I'll be using Tuf 760m .. In my country, the 13700 is $457.05, the 13700k is $462.25, the 14700 is $460.71 and the 14700k is $486.70 .. So the 13700, 13700k and 14700 are all price so close and only the 14700k is much more expensive .. Which do I get ?? Will the 13700 & 14700 runs cooler than the K processors or will the K processors run cooler on a B760m given its locked ..

At AWD-IT the 13700 is £395, the 13700k is £425 so about a £30 difference.

How come nobody has talked about this version of the chip yet? I’m still choosing between getting 13600K VS 13700K cuz more P cores probably benefits 3D and video/VFX applications. But the 13700 is slightly lower clock speed but also in between the price of the above mentioned cpus.

I want to know the RAM compatibility for 13700, with B660 boards. Spec sheet says it supports DDR5 5600 max. So does that mean I cannot use DDR5 6000 sticks? Will it be unstable? Can I run 6000 sticks at 5600 speed? Or do I need to buy 5600 sticks specifically? Do I need B760 boards for any of these to run without any compatibility issue?

You enable XMP in the bios and set it to 5600 if you have problems at 6000.

Depends. Single core difference isn't worth it (the 13700k is ~10% faster there), but if your particular use case benefits from multi-core performance, it might be worth considering. It also depends on your motherboard and RAM. If you're on DDR4, I personally wouldn't think the upgrade is worth it unless you get a really good deal on the 13700k and can can sell your 12700kf for good money. For video editing, though, the 13700k would be a major upgrade due to QuickSync, but then again if you want that, the 13600k performs about the same as the 12700kf and is cheaper than the 13700k ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
