@@cj7073 With the introduction of its 14th Gen processors just last month, Intel introduced a new feature called Application Optimizer, or APO for short. It's a new scheduling technology to help boost frame rates in select games-very few select games, in fact, as there are just two that support APO today. But that's not the only way this feature is limited: It's a 14th Gen exclusive and Intel says it has no plans to roll it out to older chips. APO is supported in Rainbow Six: Siege and Metro Exodus and Intel says you can expect up to a 20% increase in performance in the latter with APO enabled. That's pretty much backed up by figures from Hardware Unboxed.

Hi! I'm planning to get this processor for faster export times in Lightroom Classic. I currently have a Ryzen 5 3600 and exporting 1000 raws from my Nikon Z5 24mp takes 47min to finish. How much of an improvement will I get if I upgrade to 14700k? Need your help and advice because it's either I upgrade my PC or get a Macbook Pro 14. Not doing much Video Editing, just lots of photos in Lightroom Classic.

I'm guessing tdp/heat between the 13700 and 14700. The extra p-cores may not play well sharing power with the iGPU and it's crippling GPU stats while giving multicore tasks extra cores (and probably speed). I would guess it was a tuning decision under the assumption that most people using a 14700k will probably have a discrete GPU anyway, so reduced iGPU wouldn't be noticed (not sure how that might affect quicksync encode and decode though, but even the weakest 11th gen quicksync is still super powerful so probably not much). Since only the 14700k got a boost in cores, I could see it also being the SKU that got more tuning attention. Maybe with yields they have a ton of 14700k dies and they want a little extra incentive for people to go 14th gen instead of save a few dollars with a 13700k

Could you do a review of 14-th Gen non k CPU's when they become available? This 14 generation is very confusing, not much gains and still very power hungry. I am thinking about the non k chips, especially the 14900 as an upgrade. I have the 12400. My friend has the 12600k and also ponders upgrading to the 14900 non k. Basically we wonder if there is an upgrade path without committing to the insane wattages that characterize the 14 gen k chips.

I'm about to build a I7-14700k based system, but I am scared about Intel's instability issues now. I only edit occasionally in Davinci Resolve. Will a Ryzen 9 7900x handle that? They will be paired with a RTX 4070TI SUPER and 64Gb RAM

if only Ryzen's iGPUs had a feature rich encoder/decoder block like intel's... If 7800X3D had 4:2:0, 4:2:2 & 4:4:4 8bit and 10bit H.264, H.265, VP9 and AV1 decoders and encoders it would be BY FAR the best CPU below $500 for video editors that also want play games & and use as little power/wattage as possible

I have trouble understanding why NLEs are refusing to address the iGPU features that are there. Ryzen 7000 has the same encoders/decoders as an RDNA2 GPU, but the only software that'll use it is handbrake.

Hey man, amazing content. I plan to buy i7-14700k, can you recommend me which cooling system I should use? AIO or AIR? And if so, which models are best for i7-14700k. I want to avoid my cpu overheating. I play video games and do some hobby work in unreal engine 5.

Just bought one , I'm not this guy lol but you want AIO , air will run pretty hot. Surprisingly though for games it does pretty well on most titles 38-55 across all games. I have a couple year old kraken x62 280mm AIO, used thermal grizzly in kryonaut extreme paste on it . Seems solid. If you have to go air for monetary reasons get a big noctua dh15 for it , use good paste. Should be ok in games but any kind of stress test cinebench etc you will get quite warm , cinebench pushed. Mine to about 83-85c before it settled.

@@nemanjagavrilovic8812 honestly not sure of something that would keep this chip that cool on cinebench they just get warm regardless from the power draw . A 280 or 360mm would be ideal I'd just go with that. Cinebench is only if you care about the scores doesn't mean much for gaming just a thing to do. I bench my systems once then just use em. More out curiosity.

I bought this CPU on launch and coming from an i7 6850k, it was worth it to me, but I don't know if it's worth it for creators with "last gen" hardware (12th Gen Intel, 5000 series AMD), This CPU for me feels like a slightly worse 13900k, my synthetic scores are very close to it, while running cooler. Great CPU.

7:00 Hindsight 2024, the motherboard defaults damage both 13/14th gen i9 and cause instability. Likewise for some 14th gen i7 depending on your silicon lottery. I currently lowered my PL1 and PL2 on my 14700k to 253/253W and waiting if other people running higher wattage haven't had accelerated degradation.

Your numbers for Davinci Resolve seem way lower compared to what Puget Systems got for the 14700k in their testing and you both are using similar test benches and running the exact same test. They found the 14700k beating out the 13900k in the extended, overall, and fusion scores.

I have 14700KF. It's very stable at all P cores 5,7GHz and all E at 4,5GHz, temperatures are pretty low, performance is great. But I cannot go any further with it, even one core at 5,8 cause crash. I use OC Genie on MSI Z790-A, and probably I need to boost voltage to OC it even more, but im newby in in and I can't figure it out yet. It looks like 14 gen doesn't need CPU brackets! Mine fit perfectly in the socket, moderate pressure, no bend at all

After some testing 14th gen seems to be no different for memory from 13th gen. A 'good' 13th gen CPU and good memory seems to be equal and sometimes better than 14th so it's all RNG on that one. For the average "XMP and go" user there is pretty much no difference. I still disagree with the power limit (or lack thereof) on motherboard thing. In my opinion the default should be spec on creator/workstation motherboards with the option to change that if you want. The fact that you might actually get less performance out of the box because the motherboard defaults can cause throttling even with some AIO's on the 700/900 CPU's is silly especially because a lot of people won't know what the problem is or how to fix it, or even that there is a problem.

My 14700k w/o an undrvolt and power limits would draw up to 260w in some games and get to 93c with a 280mm aio 😂 I mean it didn't throttle....right? Lmao

I think it's pretty simple really: whichever is cheapest at the moment. There seems to be basically no difference in performance even though there are 4 more E-Cores, maybe some BIOS or driver updates can squeeze a bit more, but doesn't seem to be the case. I'm building a new PC after a loooong time, was looking for the 13700K, but then the 14700K dropped in price for Black Friday bellow the 13th gen, and got that instead

In my country 13700kf‚ 13700k‚ 14700kf‚ and 7900 (non-X) are pretty much the same price. 14700k and R9 7900x are like 20 USD (converted from local currency) more expensive. So, I guess 14700kf should be the one to go with or the 14700k if the iGPU is needed.

13700/13700k and b760/z690 combo could be a good deal now as there's no other upgrade path better next year with lga 1700 socket. 14900k next year will be left in the dust for sure by a core 5 cpu with big node change from intel

Great video as always mate, but I've got an honest question that has really been bugging me, I'd be grateful if you could answer it. I see a lot of difference with the official puget systems benchmarks on their site. There the 14700k beats in every category the 13700k and specifically as a video editor (davinci resolve), the 14700k obliterates in fusion the 13700k on their site, and on every other dr specific benchmark. Why's there such a big difference with your results? I mean I know there can be a sample variation at max 4% between 2 same cpus, but we are talking way more than that. Thank you!

Bro, you released this video today, but I think you made it several days back. Now there is an APO improvement already released for the 14th Gen, and you need to check the benchmarks based on that. There is approximately 20% boost in performance after switching on APO on games and some other productivity softwares, as I heard.

That is a very good build. I have a similar build in my shoppinglist, but with Kingston Fury 2TB Nvme and 5600 CL36 RAM. I mostly use Davinci Resolve so I am considering to step down to i5 13500 to shave off 250 € and only a about 5% perfomance.

So, for 33% more power (100w almost) you get 5-10% more performance (and doesn't win every time either) with the 14700K compared to the 7900X. So, what is the price difference as well. Doesn't sound or look like a very good deal to me. It will cost more to run, more to cool, and more heat in my room.

only problem with 14700k are that it is on dead motherboard and if you have AM5 or even not it will be fine for Zen5 and 6 too

I know Amd fangirls insist it is impossible to change a motherboard. I run a 7 year Masters degree in changing motherboard and not just putting in new cpu.

I'm looking for a new system and the limited possibilities for upgrading with intel in the future make me look at a 7900X. Then again, it'll most likely be five years from now that I'll be upgrading again and things might have changed so much I'll need a new motherboard anyway.

@@ErikSmitsPhotography you wont be 5 years on same cpu especially if you will go with new gen gpus., everybody think same with 5950x and 5900x and now this cpus are simply pointless after 3 years for buying as used or new if you can find them !! 14700k as i see its too much expensive and basically are like 7950x in price but not in performance/productivity and power consumption are double higher then 7950x and for 5 months zen5 comes and 7950x will still have some value so selling it and add some money and buying something like r7 9900x which would have less cores but faster then 7950x will be pretty fine

The tiny last gen Ryzen 5 5600X3D using 16GB 3200Mhz DDR4 RAM can match or beat a Ryzen 9 7950X in quite a few games despite it's 32 super fast cores and mega high speed DDR5 RAM. We need more low cost cache loaded CPUs for the pure gamer! Ryzen 5 7600X3D, we need that.

i consistently get 35,500+ score on Cinebench R23 with my 14700kf undervolted by 0.150 and power limited/capped to 253W if anyone wants to try that and get a boost because 33,440 that is in this video is way too low.

This is why I keep complaining about the out of the box power defaults on creator motherboards (and in general). Setting in spec power limits can make a noticeable difference in performance when actually taxing the CPU and it isn't throttling.

I upgraded to the 14700k from 13700k a month ago when it became available and have been pleased with the overall results. 3% improvement in single core and 18% improvement in multicore in Cinebench 23. I use it in audio mixing environments and is working superbly. I feel like this is the ideal product in the socket 1700 family with the i9 products pushing the realistic current, clocking and thermal limits a little too hard. Combine that with 4 more E cores and somewhat refined memory timings and you've got the winner, 14700k in my book. I thnk this one will take me a good bit further into the future than previous generational uplifts have.

I still feel this "14th" gen shouldn't be. With the 4th gen, they released a couple updated items, the 4790k and 4690k, that just slightly clocked up the previous 4770k and 4670k. Intel should have done this same thing with these, as the 13950k and 13750k, for example. This "14th" gen really isn't one. Then again, for this generation, and for gaming, the 7800X3D is still the best bang for the buck.

Why would Intel produce such insanely power hungry CPU's that require humongous coolers? Makes no sense to me. Why not give the consumer a normal 80-90 watt CPU or at least a choice of one. A normal 6 or 8 core chip with one or two e-cores. Is this going to be some trend? Numerous cores and ridiculous power draws? I hope not.

obviously you cpu will be fine but your Motherboard will be cooked. it's best to stay under 90c even if you have high end motherboard, 85c For low-mid range motherboards

14th Gen is absolute garbage. AMD's lineup is MUCH better and, in my workloads, beats Intel most of the time and if it loses it's by a very little bit. Zen 5 comes next year and can fit in the same socket will completely beat Intel's line up in all benchmarks.

me rocking a i77700k z260 gtx1080ti NATIVE 4k capable but on average 180fps at 1440 dont want dlss or fsr or upscaling, i came away from console to get away from 1080 60fps upscaling to get into pc gaming. sad how its going backwards, they had to rewrite crysis to work on modern pc cpus and cards WHY? because they cant run it LOL. AAA gaming is not AAA gaming anymore sticking with dx11 on old and not buying console ports at low res . im done with upgrading to a pointless fraud by all these companies .

@@mitchmurray2260 Not lies dude and I’m not an “AMD PERSON”. I’m a high end gaming rig builder who builds and tunes both. I can unequivocally tell you that “e” cores are NOT true cores regardless of what Der Bauer says. They are useless for gaming and you said it yourself…….”equivalent” to 7700k CPU. That’s a long way from a 12th, 13th, or 14th gen core. So yeah……….half cores. “E” cores are Intel’s answer to AMD’s core count……….which is all “Performance” cores BTW. If Intel were to manufacture an all “P” core CPU it would burn up faster then space debris entering our atmosphere. Their present architecture cannot support higher core counts and the power draw is ridiculous. From my point of view ………… AMD has surpassed Intel taking all things into consideration. Heat and power draw is killing the present Intel architecture and getting more then 2 gens out of a platform is a must. The AM4 platform will go down in history as one of the best platforms ever. There’s no denying that.
