I own the black dial/steel version. Regarding the 3 date window issue, I also have to say that I find it very useful as it reads easier in early mornings, in low light conditions. It stands out a lot more and sort of reassuring when you see 13-14-15 in a row your brain copes with it much easily. Not to mention if you are 10 metre below water. Also the window itself is done very elegantly! I think this watch is a great piece. I do have a problem with people not being able to identify the brand, when they ask me they have no clue. I always tell them it's equivalent to a Tag Heuer in terms of the purchase value. It's a great watch, very enjoyable to wear and it is a durable tank. After many years of wearing I still enjoy it and still haven't been able to put any scratches on the glass or even the ceramic bezel. It just shows how high quality the parts this watch built from. Regarding the name. It's all about marketing. If Raymond Weil was all over the shops then it would be hyped. I also have to mention the issue with the ceramic bezel not lining up to centre. Well, mine was the same but after a certain amount of time as it started wearing in it started coming up very accurately to the centre line. Now it is bang on the line. I think they knew what they were doing. People tend to forget the manufacturing side of things. I personally thought that the spring of the bezel will loosen up enough to line up. It still turns tight and snappy thought. When it was new it was just too tight. I felt it was going to loosen up with time and it did. My next watch is going to be a JLC Reverso grand date and I will stop there.
@PerthWAtch
@PerthWAtch 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to share those detailed thoughts - much appreciated! Can't say I agree about the aesthetic of the date window though... I don't find any advantage at all apart from the rare instance where the minute hand just happens to block the date (in which case the adjacent dates tells you what the actual date it). Also, it would be a pretty special effort to put scratches on a sapphire crystal (hardness second only to diamond) or ceramic bezel insert - those materials are chosen for their high scratch resistance, and even a $100 Pagani Design with those would be very difficult to scratch. Interesting to hear about the bezel lining up for you after a while... However I am not sure if that's by design or just plain luck! ATB :)

Good review. I have a similar watch to this. Very smart looking piece. Raymond Weil make models from entry level right up to "big money" prices. Some of their range can be quite "chintzy" but one of the reasons why this brand is so successful is due to the build quality and finish of their serious midrange models, along with design detail, which is unbeatable. The trick with this brand is to never pay the rrp - Raymond Weils can be come across at significantly discounted prices - if you are lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time.
@PerthWAtch
@PerthWAtch 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I think they have some great prices and designs for fair value, but their is design detail definitely not “unbeatable”... there are many which are comparable and if considering outside of Swiss made, can be found for better value.

I own this exact watch and two things i would like to change about it are: 1. It's very difficult to wind and screw the crown back in. Apparently this is a common complaint for the Sellita SW200 movement. 2. No micro adjustments on the clasp makes it difficult to wear comfortably in the hot summer weather. Other than these two issues I am very pleased with this watch and wear it in rotation.
@PerthWAtch
@PerthWAtch 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing that - agreed about the lack of micro adjust, that can be annoying! Regarding the ease of screwing the crown back in, I think that's much more to do with the engineering standards of each brand - Sellita don't make the case and crown for the watch.

In Europe and the UK and the middle East Raymond Weil is a very respected luxury watch brand - thought it is true to say there is a some chinzy dross in their range. The build quality of their "serious" stuff is second to none: the Raymond Weil diver I have compares very favourably with my Girard-Perregaux and Rolex, which cost far more.

Really coincidental but today i received delivery of the black version.. im sending mine back.. two things are really not good .. just like yours the bezel pip does not align with the 12 marker.. slightly to the right.. mine is the same and considering i can get numerous reps with correct alignment thats disappointing at this price point. Other niggle is lack of micro adjustment on the great bracelet.. lets it down badly.. once youve had a pelagos or a glidelock it really matters..
@PerthWAtch
@PerthWAtch 5 жыл бұрын
How coincidental indeed! Yeah you're right about the bezel alignment, I forgot to mention that actually. I didn't feel the lack of micro adjust as much given the length of each link is relatively small, so it's similar to some leather straps... but if you're used a glidelock then you'd feel it I think.

Thanks for this review, Ivan. I can not say that this Raymond Weil is an interesting nor unique watch, but my wife and I had owned several RW before, so I really enjoyed this review. it is solid watch, JUST LIKE ORIS. that would be a perfect comparison between Oris and RW except Oris is getting really popular and doing few things that will make the company go forward rapidly, unlike RW which as been stagnant for a decade or so. Just two years ago, for a first time, RW made their own movement called Freelancer 1212 (apparently 1212 is the postal code of the company location in Geneva, kind of stupid in my opinion, but....well....), but I guess that was their attempt to get their company going for a better direction which did not turn out well. their own movement watches are also being sold and discounted between $1000 to $1300 mostly in gray market, so THAT WAS THAT.... (by the way, their own 1212 wasn't anything special at all....that might be the biggest reason...) However, as for a company that has been around since 1976 (only 43 years of watch history...), they are still around and a solid mid class watch company that turns out many good value watches (but way behind of technology and innovation), but I am bit afraid that they might be bought by some bigger watch corporation rather soon. As I know, they are still Swiss private company owned by a family. Those private family owned watch companies are very hard to find recently, as you know. Watch industry is one of the toughest industries to keep up and do their marketing. And recently, there has been plethora of new micro brands popping up like mushrooms and I expect that only few percent will survive in next five years or so..... As for Raymond Weil, it is a good watch company (since it is still family owned) among many others. I just wonder how long they will be around and just hope that they can come out with something special (like Oris) to turn the company around in very near future. again, I do appreciate your fantastic reviews and enjoy final couple of hours of Sunday in Perth. (BTW, I am in Los Angeles) PS: to answer your question about 3 number date window, I also prefer one number date window FOR THIS WATCH. it is strictly aesthetic matter (IMO) whether to have 3# or 1# date window. but for this watch, yes, one # looks better.
@PerthWAtch
@PerthWAtch 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Alex... good points about the history and nature of the company, all of which are accurate based on my own readings. For their sake I do hope they manage to continue to survive, but as you say that would likely require some innovation or two. I respect them for remaining independent Swiss, a dying breed... so I would certainly like to see them succeed more. The industry sure feels rather cutthroat at times!

Interesting reading the comments Ivan: "too many diver reviews"? Not for me:after all, few dive watches are ever taken scuba diving. In reality, "diver" with respect to watches refers more to a style than a function. And "divers" are very broad in style and as a result, a large proportion of available watch designs fall within it. "This watch is generic"? Well surely all dive watches are generic. The definition of generic is "characteristic of or relating to a class or group of things" according to one online dictionary. If there is indeed a genre that covers blue submersible watches then I actually feel that there is more reviewing to be done. A comparison of this watch to a stylistically similar Christopher Ward with the same movement but at less than half the price would be interesting as would adding the Sea Gull Ocean Star into the mix. In the final analysis what watch channels like this one offer is information that allows us to make determinations about which watches to buy. And they help us think about what values are really important. Some will undoubtedly think the words "Swiss Made" make the RW worth the additional cash but then my view is coloured and diminished because I remember this brand as the Swiss one air hostesses punted around duty free on flights in the 80's. So I hope Ivan that this is far from your last diver review because for me there is much more of interest to explore. As ever, I thoroughly enjoyed your stimulating vid - thank you.
@PerthWAtch
@PerthWAtch 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the very detailed and thoughtful comment David! I find myself agreeing with all that you have put down - is this watch generic? Well yes in a sense it is, it is designed to be a diver and functions as such, so it's not necessarily a bad thing to be such. "Too many divers"? Now that's completely up to taste and preference, and as I replied elsewhere: I love me my divers!! So fear not, there will be many more dive watches to be featured here yet! :)

Perth WAtch its very difficult to be completely original, especially since most currant watches borrow something from something that came before it. The case on this reminds me of a Sinn 104, has a very nice dial with baton markers, and hands that remind me of what older Seiko Divers used to have. The date cutout ruins it for me. The Squale 1521 case is based on a case that the Orginal Squale made in the 1960s. Blancpain at one time used Squale as a case supplier.

How do you build an "original" dive watch? I don't get what people want. There are brands doing original, like Aragon, but then they get ridiculed for being freakish. A divers is a diver is a diver Imo. It's a watch, how different can you get without being being ugly. Watch people make audiophiles appear easy to please. I have this watch in black. Got a deal. It's my first all Swiss watch and I actually quite like it. It's so shiny, solid and precise feeling. It just tells time though. My Casio smart watch destroys it in every way except look and feel.

Interesting brand - never heard of them. That Blue Shark IV seems like a totally different category of watch though.

Seems like a quality watch ... it's just a little generic for me

yes, absolutely quality watch for under $1000 (Recently RW has deep discounts). Also absolutely generic design and that is the reason for the deep discounts. :+)

True on both counts... quality - yes. Generic/derivative - also yes :)
