How do you survive a blizzard while living in your van? How do do you stay warm in a vanlife during winter? It is not uncommon to find blizzard conditions in the North Cascade Mountains of Washington. If you are living the van life, the winter season is the most crucial time of year when it comes to survival in your van. Survivng a blizzard becomes dependent how prepared you are for these circumstances.

There is nothing more pleasant and joyful than feeling of being warm, cozy and safe in a shelter ( car, tent or cabin ) in the cold blizzard snowy frizzing outdoors. It is magical.

When I came home from military service due to injuries, my wife, combat K9 and I ended up living in an RV through a bitter Wisconsin winter.. the entire winter. A few lessons for anyone doing this: 1) During a blizzard, major snow storm or high wind event, make sure you constantly check your vehicle exhaust and/or furnace/heater exhaust if you have any intent on using them. If they get plugged you very will could die of suffocation. 2) If you have fresh air vents and rely on them because your rig is very well sealed, make sure you also keep those clear for the same reason. 3) Keep a good box of hand/foot chemical warmer packs in your rig just in case you have no power or power fails. They will keep you alive in an emergency. 4) If possible, turn your rig so that entrance/exit/doors of your rig are pointed away the wind. If you do this, you may also need to plan on covering the radiator in your engine compartment area to keep it from freezing due to the windchills this will cause.. If you are lucky, the rear or opposite side of your rig will be pointing into the wind however. 5) Do not use open flame heaters, liquid fueled heaters etc inside your rig in a blizzard without making absolutely sure you have them vented with fresh air that is not blocked by snow.. Sadly, there are people that do this kind of camping... and died because of it. The biggest mistake of all those are forgetting to keep exhaust and intake vents unblocked.. People hunker up inside where they finally get warm and don't want to have to go back outside.. and it has cost people their lives. So while winter camping is a lot of fun, just make sure you consider everything when doing so.

This is so cool. I remember doing this in the forests of Alberta when I was 20. My family were loggers and we stayed for a month in the winter, in a camper, I'm 55 now and they now have movable trailers with big screen tvs. Not the same lol. Only drawback was smelling diesel fuel

Freaking awesome! Beautiful scenery! You're fortunate to experience that. This reminds me of a camping trip my friends and I took years ago as a teens. We had our camp all set up by Friday night, then spent Saturday collecting wood, smoking cigars, and standing around the fire talking about dumb adolescent stuff. It was a starry sky when we went to bed, and we had no idea about the weather forecast as this was before cell phones. Besides that, we didn't care about the weather anyway. I retired to my $20 pup tent by myself, and the rest of my friends (and brothers) retired to the old style Coleman canvas tent we had. I was wakened in the morning to everyone yelling my name and saying "Are you OK over there? Wake up!" I shook the sleep cobwebs off, then looked at the top of my tent and saw that both sides of the tent were right up against my body because of the foot of snow that had fallen that night! I knocked all the snow off the tent, and assured everyone I was alight. I’ve never experienced snow fall like that while sleeping in a pup tent since then. All of us on that trip talk about that a lot. Memories like that are something you never forget. This trip/video will be one that’ll never forget as well. I enjoyed the video, and thanks for sharing.

ik you probably won't see this but your van honestly surprises me at how much it's able to go through. It surprised me at how much of a beast that thing is considering its not very powerful and 2wd with, essentially your home inside of it. My dude that was a sweet drift! I went camping with my Toyota GT86 late last year and was drifting about all over the place in the snow.... i set up and an hour later some guy in a VW Camper is doing the same haha, had a beer with him and he showed me your channel, love the content!

@@1966supersport Did you happen to notice they are not camping in a campground. When I was 15 I went to parksssssssssssssssssssssssssss and set up a tent and was kicked out. IT IS ILLEGAL!!!!!!!!!!! OR might you be one of those tax free house jumpers working the system of waste ...to notice. A lady here might want to do this and who knows what could happen. She DID call it """VAN LIFE""" now didn't she before you go off not understanding ENGRISH. A ax is a tool EVERY camper should have. A tool............

well done.. top tip, tie you maxtrax to the rear of your van with some tough rope so if stuck then get forwards movement keep going until safe to stop as your maxtrax will still be following you until needed

The military moved us to Montana. We arrived in July, and set up our pop up camper. The first night the temp dropped to the low 50s and the winds picked up to 50 mph. Our plans for camping while waiting for housing vanished quickly.
