I hate technical couses also but something about this video made me want to race this course. I think it's the lack of pot holes and just that over all smoothness of the pavement in the video. Gave me an itch to rip it through some corners with the threat of on coming cars.

Really nice coverage enjoyed that thanks for sharing looks like a little industrial park that might have a little brewery in there noticing all those wall murals, like a little arts District/warehouse/apartments. This course will be really fun for a fixed gear criterium also I think that would be very interesting lots of slowing down and turns in accelerating and then backpedaling slowing down accelerating the kind of really cool

road course vs crit course. different rider types specialize in each type. climbers vs flat-lander sprinter types. Some riders excel at each type, but the hilly road courses are typically referred to as "harder", but it just depends upon the race and who's in it.

speedometer aka cycling computer that records gps based speed and position,power,heart rate and cadence.And ofcourse the sensors that transfers data thru bluetooth.I think if you use garmin cyclo computers, you can directly upload your recorded data to an app where you can easily integrate it to your go pro recording as well.

I think this is because in amateur racing teams riders' abilities vary a lot. A pro team will distribute its riders into different roles, but amateur teams are more of 'the best guy does everything and the rest of the team just struggle to finish the race'

@MichaelIhde69 Жыл бұрын
@@f1clips606 I think even the stronger riders in this crit are probably closer to the 275-325 range. I guarantee you some of these riders have a 425 W FTP however it doesn't take crazy power to win crits, especially in a course like this it's more about tactics and using your strengths. I think even Jeff's FTP is only like 300 something, and you see him winning Alviso all the time
@geraldtone5914
@geraldtone5914 Жыл бұрын
@@f1clips606 Idk about that man, I follow L39ion on strava. Even when the compete in crits. They normalize about 260. That's even for CJ, the heavier brother. So I doubt you have to hold 400 watts.
@alexkerslake4613
@alexkerslake4613 Жыл бұрын
@@geraldtone5914 nowhere near 400. FTP is semi irrelevant - yeah you need to be strong, a 300 watt FTP as a general indication of fitness is about right, but it's more the ability to spike 1000 watts out of multiple corners multiple times, and then settle back into the tempo

Nice vid and great win but please keep it honest. At 5:07 Ryan lets two riders go off the front. He first says that he was the dedicated sprinter so he shouldn't waste energy. But he was chasing breaks before and does attack after attack later on, even trying to go solo. Then he says that he was taking a calculated risk, as he was happy to let the two riders go and have Project 74 bringing them back. However, we see him chasing by doing well over 400 watts for about 40 seconds. Just be honest and say that you didn't have the legs to close it down. This is a great channel, one of the very best in explaining tactics, but by sugarcoating things it loses appeal and it diminishes the quality of the explanations given. I've seen this in a few previous vids as well. Everything that happens gets explained away as being a great choice. Don't let ego get in the way of the usually great race analyses.
@acronov
@acronov Жыл бұрын
Ryan’s HR is 170 at that point. He was closing gaps and launching counterattacks at 180+ throughout the race. I believe him when he says it was energy conservation rather than fried legs
@brizziefritz4794
@brizziefritz4794 Жыл бұрын
@@acronov You can't say that you don't chase as your job is to save energy as you're the dedicated sprinter and at the same time chase other breaks, do attack after attack and even go solo. Just as you can't say that you take a calculated risk and let another team do the chase while doing well over 400 watts for about 40 seconds on the front chasing.
@acronov
@acronov Жыл бұрын
So what, his options are to never close gaps or always close gaps? He closed the gaps he thought would be advantageous to close and he didn’t close the gaps he thought would be disadvantageous to close. You say he gave up chasing because he didn’t have the legs but he was at 170 bpm in a race where he was regularly at 180+ and won with a long sprint. Energy conservation and race strategy seem like a much more plausible explanation for him letting those two riders go than lack of leg power
@acronov
@acronov Жыл бұрын
Someone whose job is to chase should be willing to self destruct to close a gap mid-race. Someone whose job is to sprint should not be willing to do that
@brizziefritz4794
@brizziefritz4794 Жыл бұрын
@@acronov If doing 400 watts on the front is saving your legs, you might want to call a Worldtour team. It looks like he tried to close the gap, did a serious but not all out effort but only saw the gap getting bigger. He then realised he couldn't close it and gave up. The point is that he is contradicting himself, making it sound like he is just making excuses. He can't have it both ways, saying he decided to let another team do the chasing while doing the chasing himself.
