Yes, can't believe it's been 6 years for me, I'm still blown away that my home and car are powered entirely by daylight. If you panel for the shortest darkest days (which is not hard to do) you're covered !!! 🤠😎

I am still not buying into electric cars. They're all going to hydrogen power now. China has many thousands of electric cars sitting parked, it's looking to dump right now. You're 100% right on Solar. Panel for winter and use lithium batteries. 🔋🌿 😎

Even though we have snowy winters I will never be without solar again it is totally worth it.

Its wild that Australia has some of the highest prices for energy with the amount of sun we get here, even with my tiny 2kw of solar/9kw of lfp I was able to go a year completely off grid, it was a bit of a struggle in the worst 3 months of winter ofcourse but most houses can easily fit double that in solar making it a breeze for an efficient home and when your paying 40 odd cents per kw it is a no brainer if you are willing to diy it. Paid off my system in 4 years and now I will just use the savings to upgrade my system to make my life even more comfortable, meanwhile most ppl are getting screwed for energy wether it be under their feet or fall out of the sky for free because our "leaders" sold out Australia right from under us.

I know right. Australia power is such a rip-off. And now that fools want to put in Nuclear Power, bloody fools. Politicians have no brains at all. Offer them a high paying Job when they leave, and they will back anything at all while in power. They should be held accountable for every lie they tell us. The steps or Parliament house bring to mind Stocks and rotting food, as punishment.

I remember the days when you had those red giant inverters and those lead acid batteries. Everything is now smaller and more compact yet more efficient and powerful. How far we've come. You have motivated me to go solar since 2014 when I started with a 24v system. I'm now running a 48v setup off grid with the utility as my backup.Thanks for the inspiration.

Sometime us older folk need a bit of a push to change our ways. That little push from George made our 100% off grid with no fossil fuels come true.

I am in Chile and off grid.... with your help, and I thank you. Yes Solar is not perfect but it sure is better than connecting to the grid. Jim

I am lucky. It's easy in Australia to find all we need at affordable prices. You have all sorts of hoops to jump through. But you're doing it as well. Just takes time Jim

Yes, the good old days. Gear was big, heavy and clunky. Very old technology indeed. Been a long road to get to this point. Can't wait to see the next improvements in technology. Thank you for following along all these years.

@JustinCaseSolarPowerАй бұрын
Hello Roy. We have our home almost as efficient as we can get it. Baring the 2x AC units. I have not bothered updating them as we tend to have stacks or solar power in summer.
@BeastMoviesАй бұрын
We're got about 40kw. Still need a good genset. The way you do it is best, but we have ours charging batteries and bypass. You need to keep it under 10kw which can mount up quickly with water pumps etc. They're a killer.
@JustinCaseSolarPowerАй бұрын
We will have just over 12,780 Watts of solar when we finish the upgrade on the solar. That will balance our system nicely in winter, and give us way more than we need in summer. It will also add enough Solar to the 5kW Deye so it will become a true stand alone backup system. 😉
@GoingOffGrid101Ай бұрын
congratulations! im happy for you. the only problem is now you have a system that needs nothing. almost boring in a good way :D

Very true! Nice, boring system that just works. Love it. Now I can finish the off grid power in the ute and the trailer. I want them both as boring as I can get them

@JustinCaseSolarPowerАй бұрын
Sometimes it's like that. We just add solar panels to help deal with it. When we have done with this little upgrade, we will have 12,780 Watts of solar power on our roof. That's how we deal with it.

Be keen to hear your thoughts on buying a cheap Nissan Leaf from Japan Auctions as your second car and hooking it up to your solar thru a 12kW bidirectional DC to DC charger? You could possibly add 60kW/h from your EV to power your house. I note a Winery in SA has just done this and they swear by it. I am all for off grid, especially with the political debacles going on atm.
@JustinCaseSolarPowerАй бұрын
Not interested at all in electric cars. I have friends that got them and have huge regrets. They just don't have the advertised range. The word RIP OFF comes to mind. IN country WA, we need that advertised range. I don't really need a car to power my home. Much more cost affective to use Green Bank. If they were to give me one, I would take it. Rip the battery out and sell the rest as scrap.
@darrengoldsbrough1484Ай бұрын
@@JustinCaseSolarPower thanks and appreciate your feedback. We love our EV, saves us $500/month in fuel bills, but my wife only uses it to get around locally so it's more like intercity driving in WA rather than being used for any trips. Love that we can simply just plug it in at home and charge it once or twice a week. Everyone to their own though and respect your view on EV's.
@JustinCaseSolarPowerАй бұрын
@@darrengoldsbrough1484 I am talking WA country. If I lived in a city I would have one for my wife to use as well, I would imagine getting stuck in city traffic would be enough to make me want to drive off a bridge.
