The five checks were deposited via ATM over the course of two days in March, with two of the branches located in Dearborn Heights, one in Detroit, one in Southfield, and another in Grosse Pointe.

They open up fake real accounts get a real ATM card from that bank they steal the checks from mail boxes wash it i dont think a copy maybe a snapshot deposit far easier to fake as ATM is alot smarter as detection and to read water marks on the paper. how ever then deposit in the fake account with there name on the check payable to them they can withdraw up to 400 $ only if they have that amount to cover but after the check clears all funds available some banks make more available depending how much is in the fake account once that check clears bam they withdraw all of it the trick is betime the check payee knows it's stolen its to late they have a 4 day head start may as say 7 to 9 days before it's reported your account will show the withdraw but In details I think not only as a ach payment process or processing i would think there is someone working with the post office and there is old money in Grosse point and old people with millions it's a a postal person or persons that deliver and picks up mail as comfortable enough to look threw people's mail several ways they can pull this off

Bit surprised to see cheques in general use. In the U.K. I only use a cheque for birthday/Christmas presents. Everything else , card or online. I believe the same goes for most of your average Brits.

I think banks should go to adding a security code when using the ATM to get money sepreate from your debit card that you punch in the number or alphabet that might help
