Grades 5& 6 are too late to carry out diagnosing. If a child is in Kindergarten and has difficulty communicating, socializing, or functioning academically, then that child should be recommended for assessment! The earlier the better! Some of these issues can be corrected so that the scholars can perform according to expectations!

Exactly….. every school or regions should have a testing area. Children should be tested from early and placed in an education system that caters to their needs. So much money going missing in our country and could be used to hire/ pay special needs teachers or socialist to test these children. 11:50

The public school system in Jamaica is not equipped with the necessary tools to assist children with special needs. This has been so for many, many years. As a retired educator I've come across so many children with learning disabilities and they just passed through the system like that. Unfortunately many of them just drop out of school. Very very sad

The increase of children that have learning disabilities has increased over the years but yet minimal effort has been placed on this ..that young lady is lucky she was high functioning what about those that are not they are left by the way side and have to sty in communities where they are ignorant and run them...come on Jamaica you are in the 21st century nowadays this is known from long time

The priminister needs to rebuilt the BT court house and give back Addison Park recreation centre to the community .since the court house was burnt down government turned a blind eye to rebuilt it..This is the worst I ever seen St Ann, look at Brownstown it is a disgrace not acceptable. Mr pm ,look at the market and the Road 😢😢😢omg shame, shame. Not to mention ST Ann's Bay hospital. 😢😢😢

A lot of parents are not willing to accept the information when given. Once they hear about disability, you, the trainer becomes the enemy. Jamaicans are culturally wired to beat children with disabilities as opposed to getting help due to the stigma. They would prefer to stay in denial than accept help. Speaking from experience.

@@wimpydon7135 Sometimes I wonder how a parent can have a child and see obvious signs and justify it. For example ( the child is four years old, does not respond to his name, is not potty trained, behavior is chaotic, the child is not settled unless he's sleeping, does not even say "dada"; and when you point these things out to the parent, letting them know that all these milestone should be acquired by age four, there should al least be some attempt: the parents responds " a so him stay, him no like talk to people him like to stay by himself,"/ "as so when me did likkle me did stay",🙄 🤦. Usually some Jamaicans only accept this when the disability affects the child not only mentally, but physically when it very evident that something is wrong. At this point some of them just want hand out, there are no efforts made to get proper training or anything. Once they hear disability, the child is just given clothing and food, and left at home as all hope is lost. And the government of the country ( from) both sides are not doing enough) . It's really a shame.

Dear Jamaica, please take it from me. Whatever you do, DO NOT follow the america way of labeling and drugging your children!! ". Autistic" and children with "ADHD" in america are medicated for life and typically end up on other drugs. They are also void of consequences because the teachers and families decide that since the person has this disability they should not and cannot be disciplined. 😐😤🙄

"The police came under gunfire.... they took evasive action... they returned fire and when the Smoke cleared one man was found suffering from gunshot wounds.....
