Well, I do strawberry jam or jelly and it forms on the top. They say to discard it I’m not gonna discard it I’m gonna put it on toast so good.

We call this fruit a rock melon in New Zealand. I've only ever eaten it as is or frozen in a smoothie. Never thought to make jam

This is one of my favorite jams to make. Found a recipe on line after getting a case gifted to me. It will always be a jam I keep on my shelves! Bonus use my homemade vanilla too!

I made the recipe using regular pectin, as i didnt have Pamona pectin. I didnt have the calcium water either. I hope it turn out

I like using vanilla beans. You have to scrape the seeds out, but the taste is amazing.

A quick tip I do for peeling cantaloupe, cut the peel off first before cutting up the cantaloupe. Cut off the ends and set melon on either end. Your knife will curve around the ball. To me it’s way faster. I absolutely love cantaloupe! I just bought, on Amazon, the Pamona Pectin recipe book. I’m so excited to see all the recipes. Thanks Leisa! 💗

@@namehere4954 I thought about the safety also. Is it because your not dragging the peel bits through the cantaloupe?

@@cindygere when you're cutting the small chunks off the peel, you're holding it awkwardly instead of on a flat surface. You ideally always want to process produce with having it secure to the board whenever possible to prevent slipping. I do cook professionally so know some of these skills aren't well known. Knife cuts are our biggest workers comp claims in kitchens.

I have made this before, good. Used reg. pectin, not pomona's, split a vanilla bean, scraped bean and put both in cantaloupe while cooking, removed pod before canning.

@Suttons Daze I'm an Alaskan living here in 🇩🇪 since 1988 so of course I've become used to some different preserving methods that I wasn't familiar with. I thought because this is melon season you might like to try cantaloupe or muskmelon thin wedge slices wrapped in thin Italian or German ham, served with a small salad topped with cottage cheese, great for hot summer days. Here in Germany they make pickled watermelon rinds, pickled cantaloupe and pickled muskmelon to accompany meat dishes. You might like to try these. Thank you for the jam recipe.

In NJ it’s hard to find melons that don’t need days+ to ripen. I have a mental issue not knowing when the melon is ready.

A box of pomonas makes 3 batches of jam. Its actually cheaper. That being said, I dont know of a recipe using the higher sugar pectin.

I have been looking for a good recipe for cantaloupe jam. My Dad loves cantaloupe so much, I can spell it without having to look it up. We grow about 300-400 lbs a year just for him to eat.

It can be done, but you do not use the whole bean, just the caviar, and trust me it was cheaper to buy it.

INTERESTING! I watched your video earlier talking about condiment powders and wonder if you have used vanilla powders? I use them at times.They are generally made with maltodextrin or dextrose.

Can you always add whatever brand pectin to your Sugar?? Can you ad a pat of butter to keep foam down? Can't wait to try this! I have plum juice and dandelion te to make jellies just been too hot!! Does it have to be pressure canned?

A different pectin will require much more sugar. Butter is unlikely to be a problem but doesn't look like foam is an issue.

I just canned 14 pints of beautiful ugly chicken with FourJars lids. Again i a tickled to say i had 0 fails. LOVE those lids. And we love cantaloupe so this has certainly peaked my interest. Not sure about the vanilla though.

I just saved this to make this summer, when the melons are ripe. Do you use the steam canner exactly like a water bath, as far as the time goes? I know the jars don't get submerged, but otherwise is it basically the same? TIA

I do like sweets for breakfast and I'm a type 2 diabetic right now just diet and exercise control mostly diet since I quit working and not so much movement. I'm mostly disabled right now but sometimes I have like a half teaspoon of jammer jelly on my last bite of toast and that actually feels like a lot.

Do you have a link for your steam canner? It seems easier to use than the pressure canner that I have. Also, where do you buy calcium water or do you make it. Never heard of calcium water. I’m definitely making this jam. I love cantaloupe.

The calcium powder is always included in a separate pouch with the pectin, along with instructions on how to use it.
