I had one in 1975. Stopped at a pub in mid winter in Buxton (yes winter, we rode all year round then). Two old timers came to look at it and said what on earth is that. I get a thrill just looking at this one in the video. Its bringing back all my old memories.

Bought one brand new in 1974. Rode it for twenty years. The only repair was the center cylinder. It burned a hole in it because the points for the center cylinder advances the timing as it wears. Took it on many two week adventures along with another three cylinder two stoke motorcycle. Strange thing, riding together down the interstates the sound of both bikes would cancer the other one out with complete silence. I sold it to a guy who was very happy to get it and low and be hold, he drove a Fiat 131 just like the mine. A melting of the minds.

There used to be quite a few of these about in the 1970s. No other bike sounded quite like them. That burble on tickover turning into a wailing roar when the throttle was opened.

I am weird, I have an inbuilt aversion to two strokes. A friend of mine had a Yamaha FS1E (fizzy) followed by the Suzuki GT750 (kettle) My other friend ended up with a Ducati 900ss followed by a Laverda Jota 1000 (still not sure why he got rid of the duclattery?) I have a Personal preference for four strokes, It must be just the sound.?

Tipp : Auf den Seitenständer stellen , dann klappt das Aufsitzen auch ohne "beinahe" umwerfen ! Tolles Motorrad. Mit 17 Jahren 1982 ein 76er Model gekauft und vor den Eltern versteckt , habe ich auf diesem Motorrad das Fahren gelernt . Ich habe die GT 750 ein Jahr später mit einer 78er BMW R 100 S ergänzt und beide dann erst hergegeben als die Suzuki RG 500 Gamma mich zur Rennfahrerei animierte . Sportlich bewegt war die GT 750 auf jeden Fall zuverlässiger als die R 100 S , die allerdings in allen Lagen schneller war . Wenn man Gas gegeben hat (Autobahn) sind bei Beiden bis zu 12 Liter Sprit auf 100 Km durchgelaufen , was durch die RG 500 mit 18 Litern getoppt wurde . Bei den Zweitaktern zuzüglich Öl , allerdings hat die BMW auch nen halben Liter Öl auf 1000 Kilometer durchgelassen .
