G'day Guys and Gals!
In todays video I take my 2023 Suzuki Jimny Jb74 out to Kenilworth forestry to test out the latest modifications. I have modified my Suzuki Jimny over the last few months to make it more capable off-road. I have added a 2inch lift kit and some 235/75r15 tyres and larger alloy rims.
The Suzuki Jimny Jb74 is an incredible 4x4 due to its short wheel base and live axle coil sprung suspension. With the addition of the Suzuki all grip traction control system the Suzuki Jimny Jb74 is a weapon off-road.
All of the tracks I tested the Jimny on today where very steep, shaily and rocky. Lots of tree roots and ruts to negotiate as well. A lot of people ask if the Suzuki Jimny is good off-road and in this video I show you just how capable it is. The Jimny is a confident off-roader with loads of articulation from the live axles and coil sprung suspension. The traction control works really well to brake spinning wheels and transfer the drive to the wheel on the ground to maintain drive through challenging obstacles.
The tyres I'm running on my Suzuki Jimny are the Maxxis Razr A/T, they are an aggressive all terrain tyre. For this trip I lowered the tyre pressure in the Jimny to 15PSI which seemed to work really well for the rocky, steep terrain. If the terrain got any more challenging I could lower the tyre pressures even more to bag the tyres out and increase the footprint.
The Suzuki Jimny has been around for a very long time. Originating from its ancestor the Suzuki Sierra it has gradually transformed into this modern day legend that we see today in the JB74. The Jb74 now has LED headlights, touch screen infotainment system with android auto and apple car play. It has front and rear live axles with coil sprung suspension. It runs a 4wd transfer case with selectable low range for off-roading. The Suzuki Jimny has been updated into an amazing modern 4wd that you can take on adventures wherever the trails may take you.
In todays video I head out into Charlie Moreland to tackle some 4wd tracks and to test out my Suzuki Jimny and some of the new modifications that I have fitted. I have recently fitted a 2 inch ironman4x4 suspension lift and some king offroad wheels with Maxxis Razr AT 235/75r15 tyres. I test the vehicle out over various different terrains like steep rocky trails, mud, clay, hill climbs, axle twisters and washouts. This test shows just how well the modifications have improved the Suzuki Jimny's off-road performance.
In the Suzuki Jimny it has the All Grip 4x4 traction control system. I was able to test this traction control system out multiple times on this trip and it works very effectively. It uses the wheel speed to track the wheels rotations. When it sees a wheel spinning out of control in the air with no forward drive it will use the ABS system to brake the wheel individually. What this does is transfers drive to the wheel that is on the ground and give you forward momentum through the obstacle. I found this system very effective when the vehicle flexed out and lost traction.
In my Suzuki Jimny I lowered my tyre pressures down to 15PSI for this trip. In the Kenilworth forestry there is a lot of steep rocky trails. By lowering the tyre pressures we can increase the footprint of the tyre and enable it to absorb bumps a lot better. In the Suzuki Jimny 15PSI seems to be a good tyre pressure for these types of trails. The Maxxis Rarr AT tyres performed really well on these steep Rocky trails. The provided loads of traction and didn't chip or puncture.
I am really happy with how the Suzuki Jimny JB74 has performed so far. It has been a lot of fun building and testing it off-road. Each modification has improved the off-road and on-road performance. There is a small sacrifice in power to run the larger tyres but it is well worth it for the increased off-road performance. So I guess the real question is the Suzuki Good Off-road? Well I believe the Suzuki Jimny was built for off-road use and this is what makes it so damn special. A lot of other vehicles on the market today aren't specifically built with off-road use in mind. The Jimny however is a thoroughbred Tough off-roader 4x4. Its heritage goes back a long time and how many mates do you know that have told you a great story about a Suzuki Sierra, Lj80, Lj50 or Jimny. They are really fun 4wd's and give you a smile every time you jump behind the wheel.
My favourite type of 4wding is explorative. I enjoy just picking an area and exploring to see what I can find. I don't mind if its easy or hard 4wding as long as I'm out in the bush Ill be happy. The Suzuki Jimny Jb74 is great!
Thanks a lot for watching guys! If you enjoyed this video and would like to see more videos like this. Please like and Subscribe to my channel : )

People only overlook by it's size, until they find one outperform the biggest and the most powerful 4x4s. I live in the Himalayas and own both an Isuzu Vcross as well as a Jimny. The jimny has taken me through places where even my Isuzu won't. Here we have the 5 door jimny.

Amazing content! 😊 I am from Spain but I moved to Queensland a year ago and got a Jimny too! I love camping, photography and exploring the countryside, so I am actually making a build very similar to yours and enjoying the lil ride a lot. Even in stock form you can go to some pretty crazy places. I already have some underbody protection installed and I am looking at a new suspension these days. Your video lifting the car was super illustrative, although there is no way I can modify mine on my own, so I will be taking it somewhere 😢

I wish we could get Jimny’s here in the USA. Mods like lockers, lifts, & skid plates are so much cheaper than Jeeps. And with the simplicity of he components much cheaper to maintain and fix on the trails.

I’ve just looked on the Ironman website and their suspension kit pricing seems good value. Good to know that it actually works quite well. You seem like every other Jimny owner - a smile on their face whenever they drive their cars! They certainly appear to be a fun car to own Cheers

Hi Nick, good to see you putting the Jimny through what it was designed for. If you’re ever down in NSW sing out, I’ll show you round a few tracks within a day trip of Sydney, you should take a few mates or the family out for a day trip with both 4WD’s. Also it’s nice to watch 4WDing without the extreme element for a change, much more acceptable to what main stream 4wders would be comfortable doing. Keep up the good work!😊

Nice video. Didn't look like there's much clearance between your diff and that dirt track. I went and took a Jimny for a test drive yesterday from the local dealer. Smaller in the car then what I thought. And a 6 month wait. New 5 door comes out in 2 weeks time with the same motor. Just a little bit of tweaking to get a little bit more torque. Then the issue happened. Yesterday. We went to the four-wheel drive adventure show. Some good specials on heaps of cars. A. Mitsubishi 4x4 Triton is only $8,000 more than a jimney. Soo now have confused my self more. What would you recommend with the bigger cars? Manual or auto cheers

If your going for a bigger 4wd wagon then automatic is definately the way to go. It all comes back to personal preference and what your looking for. If your looking for a 4wd to take the family in then definitely don't buy a Jimny. But if your looking for a fun little 4wd that's good on fuel for yourself and maybe a partner then the jimny could be a good option.

@@LowRangeNick thanks for that I liked the Jimny, wife was it's too small. She drive a Kluger all wheel drive. I told her it's chalk and cheese. Even this week when we test drive the Triton it's no Kluger I told her. As your a mechanic and 4wd guru, any issues with the Triton that you know of. I love the ranger and Navara but out of my price range. So thinking mid range specks then a few after market toys. I always get sucked in at the dealership spending $$$$ on extras.
@LowRangeNick

@tugboat8475 The triton is a solid unit with a great warranty period. They are one of the cheapest 4wds without going to a Chinese manufacturer and they have been around with the same platform for years. This means it's reliable and works well. They have there minor issues but it has a great warranty to back it.

Is that still with the stock low range gearing? Coming from my old 98 Hilux, the stock Jimny low range seems too high! but i guess they did that so the traction control would work as it needs a bit of wheel spin difference to work its magic.
@LowRangeNick
@LowRangeNick 8 ай бұрын
Still running standard gearing, yep! The gearing in the Jb74 is a lot better then the older models as they actually run 1" bigger tyres standard. So, running 235's still keeps the gearing acceptable for off-roading. I remember when I fitted 235's to my older model jimny the gearing was horrible. I would always stall out trying to crawl up obstacles. But gearing is still good with the 235s on my JB74.

Hey Andy! It is really good for reading out faults in multiple different modules. The difference will be the kinchrome will only be able to read out faults in the engine computer where as the cgsulit can read out codes in engine, abs, airbag modules etc. And it can also perform service resets and adaption reset and injector coding on some models.
