Suzuki Vitara 4 Offroad Winter Test. Driving uphill Snowy Hill and using Hill Descent Control. 4x4 OffRoad test in snow from few degrees up to more than 25 degrees of steepness.
Index:
0:26 - Trial 1 - 6 degree
3:22 - Trial 2 - 23 degree
4:26 - Hill Descent Control Test
5:17 - Trial 3 - 24 degree
6:54 - Trial 4 - 26 degree
Set up of my car - Suzuki Vitara 4 (European Version):
- 140 HP Gasoline TurboBoost Engine 1.4 Liter
- 4 Wheel drive - All Grip Select
- Winter Tires - Dunlop Winter Sport 5
In video I will show you how Suzuki Vitara is handling off-road driving uphill and going down same way on a snow-covered dust roads. You would be able to see if Suzuki Vitara III will fail and to what degree you can count on its 4x4 AllGrip Select drive.
This is my second test of Suzuki Vitara off-road capabilities in terrain. I hope it will be useful for you to clarify if Vitara is worth having, especially if you live in mountain or hill area, where in winter is lot of snow.
This test should apply for all Suzuki family cars with same 140HP engine and same AllGrip Select - four wheels drive. In Europe we have at least two models: Suzuki Vitara III & Suzuki S-Cross. Probably there is also Suzuki Brezza in other markets. And maybe some other I am not aware. Please share in comments if you know some other models with similar configuration.

Thanks! Completly agree. Even now the price is not so low, like 2-3 years ago - increased after introducing mild hybrid. But any way if you want to have 4x4 and something better than Dacia Duster and not crazy expensive - this is very good choice. Two years ago, when you was buying 4x4, also you had lot of nice features of highest version for "free". Not sure if there is now any other brand with 4x4, in this price, besides Dacia to be bought. And AllGrip is showing even more skills when only two out of 4 wheels has its grip. I am really content with it.

How is the Allgrip 4WD System in this Vitara realized ? Is it a transferbox that goes from the front differential to a magnetic 4WD coupling and then to a Visco coupling attached to the back differential ? Or is it a multi disc plate wet-clutch type system like a Haldex coupling ? I cannot find a detailed explanation of the functioning and parts of Suzukis Allgrip, all videos are just the usual marketing bla bla and if I decide to buy one, I want to know which parts and oil-households are being heavily stressed and might need to be changed regularly( more often than the maintenance plan says ) in order to keep the machine running smoothly for many hundreds of thousands of kilometers :-) Thanks so much for explaining :-)

Thanks for this video! I've just bought a new Suzuki Vitara, and it's always good to know how trustable can it be in every situation. If I can ask you a question, I'd like to know whether you changed the wheels, or they are the original ones. I'm in doubt with the tyres, as they are suitable for road driving, but not sure for the off-road.
@OutdoorAdventure0
@OutdoorAdventure0 2 ай бұрын
First - I swap Winter to Summer (solution for you depends where you live). Winter ones are enough for me during Winter for most conditions - In general less mud in Winter, but even some mud - winter ones can handle good, Snow is handled very good with them. For Summer I changed to Cooper AT tires. They are only ones which had exactly matching size. You can go with a bit oversized Yokohama AT probably. ATs had some disadvantages on the road (they dont grip asphalt so well as default tires). Default tires had not good grip in any conditions with muddy or wet terrain. So choice depends how you plan to use your car. I still drive with AT majority of my time even it is mostly on Asphalt (but I don't drive any more like in Sport car ;)).

I currently have the first generation of Vitara, so you can turn on 4x4, but still end up with just one wheel spinning as it doesn't lock the split of power to back and forth like in the third generation, I believe. This was interesting to watch. I might buy a third generation Vitara in the next few days, so it's good to see that it gets through tougher terrain than just pure roads as I live all the way north in Norway.
@OutdoorAdventure0

Hi, I hope you have bought it.;) But I thought now in Norway only are sold Electric Cars ;) Did 1st gen had Reduction? 3rd is lacking unfortunately. :( I guess for 1st get Suzuki (at least some of them ) you can order still customization to have blocking of differential. I guess in Poland it would be possible. There are couple of workshops who are specializing in modifying of old Suzuki's. They are considered as very good cars and good base for modifications. Also I think in some Suzuki old models(I think it was in Jimmy) you could block spinning by some mechanism in rims. Maybe not in yours. In Gen3 spinning blocking is not bad. But of course not as perfect as mechanical full blockade.

Hi, I've just bought a 2019 model...my question what kind of tyres should I fit? I will be using on main roads most of the time, however I'm about to start a new job working in the countryside all year round so I'm guessing at least an all season tyre. I'd like to take it off road & do a bit of easy green laning too but probably only do it a handful of times a year. Many thanks.
@OutdoorAdventure0
@OutdoorAdventure0 6 ай бұрын
Sorry for late reply. I hope still it will be helpful. Depends what is your geographic location :) and if you have snow. Personally, in your place I would consider All Season Tyres. From my experience ATs are to extreme for mostly road driving. I must slow down with them sometimes. Same time I find Winter Tires very useful in mud and snow. If you want universal combination, All Season should be good for you. Better grip but still better behavior in normal road (at least that is what I expect), but this also may depends from tire model.

@OutdoorAdventure0
@OutdoorAdventure0 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I don't have available Subaru XV. Maybe I will do some comparison with Subaru Outback in some time. You can dig deeper about technological differences. As far as I found Subaru XV has viscous coupling four-wheel drive system, while AllGrip "Select" for Suzuki Vitara has a bit more advanced system: electromagnetic multi-plate clutch. In theory first one is mechanical only, while second one is controled by computer with feedback system(more clever). But without practical test, you cannot say which will be better in offroad.

Nice to see a real test. Quick question here. I have an s-cross sx4 hybrid and also awd. Last year, I got stuck on deep snow down a small but steep slope, and I admit I'm not an expert driver. But is there a difference of power between the full gasoline motor and the hybrid one?
@OutdoorAdventure0
@OutdoorAdventure0 Жыл бұрын
From what I understand in Mild Hybrid and Stronger Hybrid you have around 130Hp in gasoline motor while if classic gasoline you have 140 HP. Electric motor potentially is adding you some power , but I heard Mild Hybrid only helping in Start-Stop and "Strong" Hybrid is also very limited. But this 10 HP of Power you potentially lose is not so much I think. This is something to investigate when in reality Electric motor of "Strong" Hybrid kicks in. I havent done any test with Hybrid, I cannot say any practical statements. Interesting question is - assuming gasoline motor is same for old and new model, is it possible to enhance it on Software level to make it 140HP.;) So you would have 140HP + electric :)

@@OutdoorAdventure0 Thank you for the reply. I can confirm that Suzuki provides strong micro-hybrid cars. But I doubt that hacking my car to get more power would physically be possible.
@ewu2030
@ewu2030 Жыл бұрын
the biggest difference with the mild hybrid is the extra torque you can get. If the car gets suspended in snow it doesn't matter if you have 500 hp or 120. The horse power is pretty much not used when going at slow speeds anyways (not sure if you have the torque and hp gauges in your s-cross hybrid, but you can see how much of each you use) As you saw, the new one has 129 hp and the old 14c engine is 140 hp tho I did not feel much of a difference on regular, road driving conditions. The old 1.4 has torque from a lower rpm tho which might be handy at times.

Given that the K14C engine used in the 1.4 Boosterjet engine has been subject to a lot of speculation over its true power and performance output, would it be possible to do any tests on a dyno over its true BHP (HP) at the crank and also 'at the wheel's to see whether it differs to what Suzuki claim? @OutdoorAdventure0
@OutdoorAdventure0 6 ай бұрын
@zivotastefanovic6923 Every mode has a bit different characteristic. It is not only about 4WD mode. Also power delivery (or how it is bind to gas pedal). Or how aggressively ESP is working. Based on some field test I know in Lock you have constant 4 WD connected (through 4WD clutch), while for SNOW it is automatically connected only when needed. But in practice I have seen 4WD is connected in SNOW mode very fast, automatically so it may be not much difference (regrading initial reaction). Although when I drive through some deep snow or mud I must be sure I have all the time 4WD, and not risk that car will decide to disconnect it at some point and I will stuck in the middle of "obstacle". So, for Offroad driving(mud/snow), Lock mode, seems for me, more reliable. If you would consider driving on snowy, paved roads, probably SNOW mode is better. In this case Car enable 4wd only when it find it needed. Also you can drive in this mode with speed over 60km/h. I think in SNOW mode you have less power(this you can easily notice) not to lose traction during start. In LOCK mode I suppose power is not limited. I haven't yet confirmed this by any test. Btw. I always forgot to switch ESP off. Now I think it may be reason off issues I have sometimes in mud.

Jęsli do jazdy za gościem w osobówce na asfalcie, no to zawsze możesz go poprostu wyminąć.

You have medium off-road good for SUVs and hard offroad good for Nissan Patrol or other better suited cars. This film is about climbing slippery hill with SUV. In deeper snow, i.e. 20 cm it is handling better than in such conditions as here, as he has more to grip.
