Suzuki Motorcycle Racing History Episode 2 | All chapters
- The glory of winning 10 consecutive motocross world titles -
In 1965, Suzuki became the first Japanese motorcycle manufacturer to take on the challenge of motocross racing.
At first unable to win, persistent trial and error led to Suzuki’s first title win in 1970.
So prolific afterward that the Suzuki name became synonymous with motocross, Suzuki won 10 consecutive Manufacturers’ titles in the 125cc class from 1975 through 1984.
This documentary follows that history by combining period footage with interviews of the engineers, mechanics and riders who contributed to those golden days of motocross racing.

so glad i grew up in these times, the bikes we bought owned and thrashed as young kids, we never really thought that they would become valuable collectors bikes, i had a xr75 k3, yz80b, rm125s, rm250b, rm465 and a cr480r and now as an old fart in my 60s restoring a 1978 rm125c, i just loved these bikes and times, the golden years of motocross thats for sure

Thank you for making this video. This is my all-time favorite motocross movie now. I know Hirohide from Facebook and have saw photos of the riders. Just a quick note... I'm an admin in 2 motocross groups on Facebook. I hear alot from people and my personal opinion that it would be awesome if you could somehow make amends with Don Richardson and put the FullFloater back on your bikes and come out with a full line of 2 strokes you probably sell millions. Everyone i know thinks the FullFloater suspension is the best suspension ever. I hope you can work something out. Thank you again for this great video! All the best to you and your families!! 👍👍🏆🏅

Akira Watanabe👍👍👍👍👍. Still the only Japanese rider to win a world Motocross Championship on a works Suzuki 125 in 1978👍 Watanabe was a true champion GP rider, my all time favorite Motocross racer. What a terrific documentary!!! Just fantastic! Those Suzuki works bikes of the 70’s and 1989’s were so cool; that RA79 125 though😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 Kind of a snub regarding Brad Lackey’s 1982 world championship....not too cool; not a surprise really, but not cool. That championship was kind of a big deal, first American....first 500 win for the company in a long time....

Great video and footage of the history of Suzuki’s race involvement of the MXGP’s from the late 60’s to the early early 1980’s. They certainly were a powerhouse in that era. As a long time fan of Suzuki MX, I wish they still had a passion for MX racing like they did 40 years ago. To bad those engineers of yesteryear are not running what is left of their MX race department now.

@davepalmatier5190 I grew up on a jr50 then a rm 100. They were nowhere new but to me the freedom riding them was unforgettable. Didn't ride for 20 years. 5 years ago with 3 now 4 kids we bought the kids a lt50 and 2 x lt80s dad a ltz400. Few weeks ago i picked up a yzf250 and now they all want 2 wheels so tomorrow we briging home a rm80 for the wife and oldest. Feeling suzuki blessed lol Ftr, all bought for less than most spend a month on alcohol cigarettes or whatever your vice is.

I am not sure if the word development is correct Suzuki did what most Japanes engineers did they took a concept and improved on it .Their road racing machines derived from MZ and a rider who took all the knowledge with him when he joined Suzuki.. This is not a critisim as such because they did improve anything they touched !!

You are right. But Walter Kaaden himself did not start from Scratch. His first Racing machine was based on a prewar DKW Motorcycle. And the famous disc Valve inlet was developed by boat engine builder Daniel Zimmermann.

Great to see the old footage of those amazing racing machines, but all the technology and drawings and expertise were stolen from MZ motorcycles.

Suki made some great motocross bikes like the RM and the TS but the Window maker TM 400 was a dangerous bike to ride water cooling and the expansion chamber did make suzuki who they are today I have a 1972 suzuki TS 9p us model and yes it does have an expansion chamber exuast fitted as most two stroke do now my bike is a TS 90cc trail bike and yes very light weighs 89 kg which with its revvy two stroke engine makes it fast it just works for two strokes

I’m so Stoked that there’s a 2 stroke series back in motocross! Politicians Killed 2 strokes behind the LIE of a “climate crisis” but people are finally waking up to this Scam and I hope 2 strokes will return to all Premier Series as they are where it’s at if the Goal Is Ultimate Performance.

Than man deflecting from MZ who incidently were developing the two stroke expansion chamber exuast system made all the difference to suzuki two stroke Road and motocross bikes the expansion chamber dit it for suzuki not a lot of people actually do know th At the German made expansion chamber were actually used in wat time in the V2 rockets a 2 stroke without the correct exuast is flat in acceleration under basically useless again many thanks to that MZ man MZ bikes were also used in racing and were fast as CZ bikes were in motocross as the were do inating early motocross CZ s got Better with knowledge of the new expansion chamber exuast system and midly put there a thing about being second in races is that you learn from others and you eventually win

Well, funny it never mentioned stolen design of the MZ road bike. Yes indeed they produced great factory bikes at the same time they produced the widow maker aka TM400, worst mx bike ever. Things did changed when they changed from the TM to the RM as far as production bikes. Later on it did not matter as much State side when you had to race "production" bikes.
