••• ABOUT THIS VIDEO •••
For quite a while now I have been planning this 1 month trip to Svalbard, and now finally the time has come. I spent the first week together with my dad, and we had a wonderful time.
Now I am off to a remote fiord to hopefully find some wildlife to photograph. If I'm not lucky with the wildlife the landscapes are incredible beautiful, and it has been a while since I have done any landscape photography.
The biggest challenge is the fact that there are a lot of polar bears in the area and it takes some preparation to stay safe.
Happy watching and stay tuned for Part 3.
••• WHO I AM •••
My name is Morten Hilmer and I am a professional nature and wildlife photographer.
I am a Nikon Ambassador and I work as an ILCP photographer.
Nature conservation is very close to my heart.
I have served in the Danish military special unit, the Sirius Patrol, for two years and that has given me the skills and confidence to operate alone in the arctic regions. I have spent two further years in the northern parts of Greenland meeting the local people and working on photography projects. My driving force is a sense of adventure and my fascination for nature, and my curiosity and empathy for other cultures has led me to many remote regions.
Read more about my time in the Sirius Dogsled Patrol: www.bbc.com/earth/story/201602...
Beside being featured in publications and in my books books my photographs have been awarded in the Wildlife photographer of the year and European Wildlife photographer of the year photo competitions.

It is so well done, and watching is a true pleasure. As someone who makes videos as well, I can't imagine the amount of work that goes into a video like this. Such an inspiration!

Such amazing scenery and that seal photo is definitely one for the 2023 calendar 😛 Even though you found it hard to describe, you described exactly how I feel about visiting/seeing old buildings. Nice video, Morten. You put a smile of recognition on my face when you used the buttons to zoom in on what you shot. It took me a while with the Z system until it sank in that the display compares to my smartphone. Two finger pinch zoom. One finger move within the frame. Brief tap to focus on the point tapped and immediately take a shot. Almost a game changer.

When seals are in the water they are difficult to get good pictures. Like you said, they don't keep their head out of the water very long and they can spend up to about 20 minutes under water. They are quite common in Puget Sound in Washington State in the USA. I see seals about 60% of the time usually about 30 meters off shore. I am surprised how many people don't notice them. I enjoy watching how you set up camp. I was surprised to see you drink from a stream. Around here I am going to filter at least and probably boil. That is a cute little old shelter you showed us. As always, I enjoy watching your videos.
