I installed a Swann SWNVK 885806 CCTV 8 channel system a couple of years ago and all have been fine until now. The image on one of the dome cameras has been a little poor of late and I thought there may be a water ingress problem so I removed the camera for closer inspection. I was correct, water had managed to get into the unit. This video explains what I did and the fix.
Links below are to the video on KZfaq where I upgraded the hard disk in the system and to the sites I bought the system from or where it is available now.
My Hard drive upgrade video:
• Swann SWNVK 885806 CCT...
Amazon for 6TB external drive I used:

This is the drive I DIDN'T buy saving me about £50

The Swann system I have is linked here:

*Full disclosure. Some of the Amazon links above may earn a few pennies for the channel at absolutely no cost to yourself. Thanks for watching. *

Great content mate, I have 886MSD since Sep. 2019 and installed 4 cameras around house, no moisture ingress issue at all, even withstood direct sunlight 40C+ days sometimes here in Australia, your video will come in handy once these cameras starts to show age which eventually will!

Hi Toshi, thanks for the great comments. Over here with the rain the condensation does seem to come and go on the cameras, even some sheltered ones suffer. But it does seem random. The one I repaired did get a bit of a wash with the pressure washer I think but I could still resurrect it. If you do need to open one of yours up be very careful with the ribbon cables as I had to cut one back to expose new track after it had been removed and refitted a few times. Thanks for watching 👍🏽

Brilliant job Mike, I hope it’s going stay that way and it’s still working well! Oh, try to remember to keep the silica bags next time when you open vitamin bottles or something like that. 😊

great how to, this happens to 2 of my swann 4k camera's on the side of my house, in the winter months when we have terrible rain and wind it blurs the image with rain then the sun comes out and causes the condensation, it does clear up eventually but does come back again.. I am disappointed especially because they're not cheap..

Hi Steve. We get the same problem even on the cameras that are undercover. I too think for the money we could and should expect something a little better. Perhaps Swann will take note and improve things. Thanks for your comments and of course for watching 👍🏽

I just installed two new swann SWNHD-887MSFB cameras this afternoon. First drilled a hole through brick, then passed the cables through, then ran the cords under the eaves, and finally built a wooden platform installed under the eaves to keep the cameras protected. Today was a gorgeous fall day, full sun, no humidity, 70 F. After installing the cameras they were great for about 3 hours, clear picture, then the sun set and they were still great in IR mode. However when I checked them after about 45 minutes past sunset both new cameras were foggy and couldn't see anything. I tried various ideas to resolve this, rebooted each of the cameras, rebooted the system, even updated the firmware on both cameras, nothing helped the picture. So went outside in the dark, climbed up a ladder and shined a flashlight across each camera lens, both had heavy condensation on them BEHIND the lens. I'm quite frustrated and upset as this swann system was expensive, a lot of work to install, and the cameras are IP rated IP66, so there should be no issue with water getting in them, especially given how dry the weather is. I suppose now I'll have to deal with swann which I'm dreading, and they better make this right.

Hi. You might find after a day or two they may clear. Mine still randomly fog up regardless of weather. Bring so new I would contact Swann as clearly they are failing so early into their life. Shame as they are really nice cameras apart from this issue. Thanks for the feedback and for watching 👍🏽

Had same issue - up for a few hours and then condensation. Supply replaced it and 2nd camera was exactly same issue. I'm tempted to fix myself rather than go through same frustration of explaining to supplier, paying $24 for Express post with SIgnatori, after wasting time going to a line at the post office. 1 out of 8 cameras exhibiting this issue, so all in all the system and other cameras seem bullet proof - even after a 3 month wet winter. The silica gel should be absorbing the any minute moisture so will look to replace that too. My theory though is that the unit is breathing in moisture (during cooling of the day) via the signal+POE cable, which I don't believe has the right IP6X rating. perhaps seal that with silicon and let well dry before reassembling. Shall reply results back here after I get a chance to do this activity.

@@MikeMakesIt Amazing, glad it worked out for you! Out of the 7 bullet cameras I have wall mounted, one of them has the same moisture problem which is becoming an annoyance. Only problem is getting up on the ladder halfway up the house to take it down 😭

You said something about an argo or arga. Is that an oven? Also did grease on the rubber seal prevent any further ingress of water? I was thinking maybe a bead of silicone around the joint might also work?
@MikeMakesIt
@MikeMakesIt Жыл бұрын
Hi, yes, our oven is an Aga which is always on so great for drying things out. A spot of grease has helped but to be sure silicone in the right place would be better.

@@MikeMakesIt Okay thanks. I might try using a hair-dryer or surround my camera which has condensation with some kitty litter made from silica gel to see if that gets the moisture out prior to doing a disassembly.

At about 10:45 mins there looks to be a breakout at the bottom of the captive screw. Perhaps this is the breach that the water is getting in through?

Hi, I can see where you mean. It looks like a mark in the casting. Having reassembled the unit a long while ago, so far so good, no water ingress. Well spotted though. Thanks for the feedback and for watching 👍🏽

Hi. There is a link here to Swan about password reset. It might not be relevant to your dvr but if you search Swan with your model number you might find it. Swan themselves are helpful if you contact them direct. I hope this helps support.swann.com/hc/en-us/articles/13816897467033-How-to-reset-the-password-or-get-the-recovery-code-of-your-DVR-NVR-NVW

Probably too late now but I would check the rear section, especially where the cable enters.

@MikeMakesIt 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ralph, thanks for your comment. To be honest I didn't check the cable entry, it might have been a good idea. I do think the water got in between the 2 halves though. I found the 3 screws a tad loose so when I put it back together I made sure they were nipped up well. Time will tell I guess, thanks for watching 👍🏽

I had temporarily fitted 4 cameras with cabling through house getting positions, then left them there for a few months just cable hanging. Cleaning fly spots off with a damp rag, then connecting with holes to ceiling to run cables. 2 cameras did this. One was a ball camera and one a pointy one usually for exterior but was better than ball up a narrow corridor. So disappointed.

Hi Philip, thanks for your input. My cameras, at the moment are ok. But perhaps tomorrow, for no reason, regardless of the weather, one may go bad again. Some are under cover and it still happens. Usually they will clear up in a day or so on their own, sometimes not. I agree they should be better for the money. Thanks for watching 👍🏽

with THAT much condensation in the unit it's going to corrode in no time. eek swann REALLY should be conformal coating all the board in their cameras, it just makes sense. we just got a brand new system and the cameras are recesses a meter under the house eves so they get no rain and are brand new, and we're getting shocking fogging in the morning and evening on different cameras making some unusably all day. and then they clear at night. very frustrating
@MikeMakesIt
@MikeMakesIt 2 жыл бұрын
Hi John, as my video says I also get the condensation with cameras that are both exposed and undercover. The fogging seems to come and go at random but since the video I have had no problem with any of them. The spiders seem to love them but so far so good with the condensation. There are reports on the Swann web site of the same problem so it's still happening. Maybe Swann could address this issue ASAP. One can hope!. Thanks for the comments and of course for watching 👍🏽
