Regardless of style (corps or HBCU) I just think it’s really awesome that there is such a high concentration of good drum lines in Atlanta. Honestly don’t think there is any other city in the world that has such an abundance of world class programs.
@sirkb_sav71846 жыл бұрын
Cameron Leonard to me Atl has always been a step ahead as far as bands and drum lines mostly because the city is so big and a Mecca for band directors from Scsu and famu

Two of the top 3 HS World Class Drum lines in WGI are from the same city.....
@brrrt82126 жыл бұрын
Brad Maston But that’s all that the Chino Hills area has, and it’s strictly core style. Atlanta has potentially a dozen upper open/ bottom of world class programs, representing all styles
@skidiva16 жыл бұрын
Technically, neither of these schools are in "Atlanta." Dekalb County (Decatur, Ellenwood,, Lithonia, Stone Mountain, Conley) well south Dekalb County, has a number of world class programs. City of Atlanta/S Fulton County never really had programs that could compete on this level. Although Douglass, Mays and Westlake are pretty good and could hold their own.

As a high schooler I was in different parts of the drumline my entire highschool career and coming as a player who never did the flashier music styling both schools sounded GOOD, not clean though. Overall presentation I gotta give it to MLK unfortunately (red) they were dirty but just slightly cleaner then the other group 🤷♂️

@@theRevVA32 agreed. Idk how anyone could think SW lost this. They outclassed the other school in terms of skill and synchronicity. They were extremely clean and together. All sections of their line were crisp. Both schools were great, but SWD is a clear winner.

MLK won this for me. Super clean, great composure. Technique over intimidation will win every time. SWD had music that was above everyones ability to play in sync imo. Also, why are the quads playing with snare sticks??

@marcdinsmore86904 жыл бұрын
MLK was clearly the tighter line. (Red snares)
@griffingarner24784 жыл бұрын
Wavy Kay they had a cleaner quad line for sure, but I feel like the blue drums were playing harder beats, and I also loved their splits in the bass drums :)
@wwew24576893 жыл бұрын
For sure. SWD was playing much harder beats, but that doesn’t mean shit if they can’t play clean. I mean obviously this was just all about having a fun competition, they were all dirty as sin, but they were having fun and that’s all that matters. MLK was much cleaner tho. Oh and quads play with sticks, too, not just pucks. Depends on the sound they’re going for. Usually the lines that primarily just play dirty parade diddles use pucks all the time 😅 just sayin 😂 Nah but MLK did really well. These kids have so much talent and potential, it’s usually the lack of funding and resources that screws them. It’s a shame. I went to a great public school, but we still didn’t have the foundation that the rich schools had & it was so obvious. They were professionally taught from elementary school, while our middle and elementary school teachers barely knew what they were doing and didn’t care to push us. Anyway, I’m just rambling now. We never had face offs like this in HS. We just competed with the rest of the band & then indoor was our time to shine in WGI 😆 Good times. Good times. This brings me back. Really miss it.
@thomasdenivele2 жыл бұрын
Different sticks/mallets provide different sounds. When I marched during undergrad, and Drum Corps we switched throughout the performance between tenor sticks, mallets, and felt. Pertaining to college band for a domed arena mallets will provide a more full sound, while out door arenas a lot of lines opt for sticks rather than mallets but your show and Director make the decision of what to use. If your drumline parts are more melodic then you will most likely use tenor sticks and felt.

These kids are really good. The band with the 6 Drum 🥁 Majors (KING) these drummers are skilled and clean. The entire drum section carried their own weight. I love how they performed in unison. Sharp👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 their Band Director should be very proud!!!

The Blue line has a lot more technical skill and would win if judged by experts who recognize their level of precision. But the Red line has more heart and could win a fan vote.

I don't care what you say, this is good for these young brothers to be able to play and demonstrate this level of precision at this stage of life. My hats off to the instructor that took and takes the time to help, aid and assist these young brothers.

Excellent battle, you can see all of the hard work and dedication by both squads. The swagger from each side is awesome. MLK has soo much rythm and swagger, but I think SWD creativity gives them a slight edge....GREAT JOB...hate to see the slight profanity, but in the heat of battle things happen...Keep going yall!!

Amazing performance from BOTH drumlines!!! It is great to see our youth participating at these events, this was something that I would have wanted to do in high school but my parents could not afford it 😢 I have loved percussion for as long as I can remember. Nowadays, kids in high school should take advantage of every single day and realize that these are the BEST 4 years of their lives!
