Miraculously I just gave this technique a "good guess" on a pair of earrings i made and I see I was correct! Yay for me (for once!) Lol. Now I know that I probably should use my chip solder for this 😆. It's all good though. I would like to know if you could show us how to solder an edge if braided wire to the end of a ring. Its been driving me insane and now I have solder all over the ring shank! 😂 Thank you!

Love your quick videos. I can watch many without getting bogged down. One thing though, Could you do one on map gasses? I am using propane, and need a hotter flame.

Thanks so much. Just purchased this torch as I have been having a problem sweat soldering a piece of silver to copper and realized I needed a bigger torch. Thanks for showing me how to use it

@Colin Niko thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm trying it out now. I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.

Why am I getting "bubbles" trapped in-between the silver? It keeps happening and ruining all my silver ( i have no rolling mill to re-melt and roll back out, so really desperate here). Thank you for your time.

I'm trying to sweat solder two pieces of copper sheet that are about twice the size of the ones in this video and it's not working and I've tried a lot of times. I think maybe it's because my torch is too small, I have a butane torch that is like a kitchen torch. I have gotten it to work once but that was on a really tiny piece of sterling silver onto copper.

My thought is yes, not enough heat, butane is the lowest temperature flames of the typical gasses that are used. FYI, sterling has a lower melting temp than copper. You can use just plain propane in a bottle. That is what I use with success, but it takes quite a long while to get hot enough...thinking about map.

I only have a butane torch. I havent had luck with the tripod is this why?

Depending on the size of your piece, you may require more heat. I have a $40 plumber’s torch as well for those situations but you have to remember to moderate your heat control so you don’t just melt everything ;) hope that helps!

Adding to that, steel is a heat sink and a butane torch won’t put out enough heat. ;)

I had success soldering onto 1 1.25 and 1.5 inch bracelet blanks...until I jumped to 2 inch. Darn nearly killed the applique that I was working with! The 2 inch with propane alone was too much metal to get to heat up at a high enough temp.
