What is the type of material you’re using to finish off the seam. Can you get them from Rio? Thanks
@robertapihl767 күн бұрын
Oh! Yes ma’am you can - I believe Rio sells them as Advantedge (so?) but they’re little silicone wheels that go on a mandrel you use in the foredom ;)

Do you have the pebble stamp shown in your video using a rolling mill? Also just FYI I've shared your business name to several of the students in my adult Ed class. At least 2 have ordered from you.

Aww thanks luv! And I’ve been thinking a lot about that one lately… I should bring it back eh? 🥰 I have one called River Rock that may be the reverse of it or it could be the same one you’re referring to.

Miraculously I just gave this technique a "good guess" on a pair of earrings i made and I see I was correct! Yay for me (for once!) Lol. Now I know that I probably should use my chip solder for this 😆. It's all good though. I would like to know if you could show us how to solder an edge if braided wire to the end of a ring. Its been driving me insane and now I have solder all over the ring shank! 😂 Thank you!

Roberta can you use that copper "tape" to remove the solder? I just found out that stuff exists so i was curious if you have ever used it and is it safe to use on silver too even though it's a copper tape?
@robertapihl76Ай бұрын
Honestly I haven’t tried it, myself! I think for me the best practice is to always start with less solder because it’s just easier to add than take it away, but if you think it’s worth trying out, give it a go! Be brave and experiment! Then maybe let me Know how it works because I make mistakes too *giggles!* 💕

@@robertapihl76 I bought some accidentally bc I thought it was pre-braided flat wire so at least now I know wtf it is. 😆 I am a wire wrapper by trade but have always wanted to learn more about metal smithing so it's been a lot of trial and error but I'm enjoying the ride! Tysm for all these wonderful videos. I'm learning so much from you! Take care!

I taught myself how to solder and I have had a lot of learning mistakes on my curve and you explain things so easily that I have learned so much just from the few videos I've watched so far. Thank you so much for your easy application and instruction. I have so much paste solder and I get it everywhere and then nothing sticks and I end up having to pickle it and scrub it and start all over. I feel like hugging you I am so happy that I have figured out the things that have been puzzling me for so long. I have ADHD really bad so it's hard for me to pay attention to most KZfaq tutorials and yours have been not only the best but the easiest to follow so far. Thank you so much for your videos. I'm so glad I subscribed yesterday.

Hi Roberta! Do you know if ferric Nitrate will etch silverplate? I do a lot with up cycling vintage silverware and wondering if this would work on spoon bowls? Thank you
@robertapihl763 ай бұрын
Hey! Ah no it won’t - it only works on the silver portion which is extraordinarily thin. The main metal is steel..

I only have a butane torch. I havent had luck with the tripod is this why?
@robertapihl768 ай бұрын
Depending on the size of your piece, you may require more heat. I have a $40 plumber’s torch as well for those situations but you have to remember to moderate your heat control so you don’t just melt everything ;) hope that helps!
@robertapihl768 ай бұрын
Adding to that, steel is a heat sink and a butane torch won’t put out enough heat. ;)

Roberta, I have been looking for such a video, for months now. I soldered on a bezel, but with hard solder😢. It moved, before I had thought to buy Elie Ghanime's hummingbirds, so I sm stuck with a bezel that's crooked!😭. Will i be able to remove it? I would hate to lose the textured backplate it's on, and all that work. Hard solder tends to be well soldered. I hope you can help me🙏🙏🙏

May be due to it being "alcohol" ink, the substance is fine unless it comes into contact with alcohol or blending solution.

Im going to cut 14 g half round, do u think the coil needs to be annealed prior to cutting?
@robertapihl76 Жыл бұрын
Glad you asked! The best thing for any form of metal you’re cutting is for it to be as hard as possible: annealing will soften the metal and that leaves really bad burrs. So don’t anneal, cut as it is 🥰

Roberta, can you tell me where you buy lead pucks?
@robertapihl76 Жыл бұрын
Of course! I honestly just use lead fishing weights. I like them because I have a little lead furnace I can melt them back down in, and re-form them back in a 1 or 1.5oz fishing weight mold. So I don’t have to buy more every time these get used up! Anyplace that sells fishing supplies will have egg sinkers ;)
