That's totally not the reason why. German is also a Germanic language (as you can tell from the name) and our kids can't speak English like that. The northern countries teach earlier and they also don't dub their films which helps with learning the sound and rhythm of the languageas well as with vocab because you can always read translations in the subtitles. Germans dub everything and our English comprehension lacks therefore enormously compared to northern countries. @@diegoaespitia

I was a child in the 60s, the height of the Cold War. The talk and media coverage of the Russians/Soviets launching nuked and invasions didn’t seem to bother me by day, but it must have got into my consciousness anyway. Almost every nightmare I had was about Russians invading, then trying to get into every home with guns, including my own. I think these discussions about preparedness should openly include children, who might actually worry more than some adults about the possibility of war. We were excluded from such discussions, adults were “afraid to scare us”, in the 60s, but still absorbed so much anxiety from public talk, media, etc. Children are just younger humans, like older humans, they want and need to know the truth about the world. Plus, adult family members aren’t there every minute to protect their children personally, the vast majority of children are at school a great deal of their time. They must be taught what to do to protect themselves as best they can. I’m so glad Sweden will be joining NATO.

Total Defense is a finnish term and concept taken on by their swedish allies now, very wisely so. We will need far stronger civil defense & desaster relief all across the world, not only in case of war but also for the more frequent natural desasters we will be facing. A draft for civil protection agencies and ongoing encouragement for people to volunteer in firefighting, medical support and other fields of civil defense would be a smart way to futureproof our societies.

Total defense have existed in Sweden for decades. It isn’t something new. It has just meant different things through the years.

Ta det lungt nu finnen, vi har haft totalförsvaret sedan efter andra världskriget. Sedan lade vår landsförrädar politiker ner det på slutet av 90 talet men nu är det på väg tillbaka.
