This video is loaded with Nestorations footage! M15 and F23 (formerly known as Maybelline) spent their morning restoring and repairing the nest. Both eagles are diligently working in synch to upgrade the nest. We are witnessing a more physical and physiological part of the bonding process. These observations renew my hopes for a successful season and a new beginning. The video begins with F23’s Grand Entrance! She snaps a branch from a tree in mid-air displaying her magnificent aerial skills. I was fortunate to capture M15 performing acrobatics, stick surfing, and hanging upside down from the “Nestdepot” tree. The flight capability of these eagles is astonishing. As per the American Eagle Foundation, frequent mating strengthens the bond with one another and increases the frequency of fertile eggs. Females may have 3, two-week windows throughout a breeding season when they are fertile. The male’s sperm is said to be viable inside the female for 10 days. The ova is turned off by prolactin which is the hormone associated with incubation. In the past, I referred to this female as “Maybelline” for identification purposes. She was officially named F23 a week ago with the possibility of renaming her in the future if a bond for life is formed or eggs are laid, as per the Southwest Florida Eagle Cam Facebook Page. #eagle #baldeagle #m15 #f23 #southwestflorida
