Swimming In Circles: Mac Miller's Downward Spiral

When Mac Miller’s Swimming released, it didn’t resonate with me on a level deep enough to excuse it’s hazy sound and monotoned vocals, and I pretty much overlooked it. Well, for the first month that it was out.
Over time I have built this gut-wrenching, horrifying... beautiful connection with Swimming and it's cathartic eeriness. This video is a depiction of the emotional journey for Mac - but also for us - that Swimming takes us through. I hope you get something out of it even close to as much as I did :)

I am a Christian and student and I made this channel when I was in high school. I started this channel because I love talking about music (specifically hip hop) and given that the genre seems to be going downhill, I want to be part of the community that preserves the expectation of great music and dissecting what makes a beautiful record. Dealing with a lack of friends to discuss these matters with, I hoped to start my own community that loves music just as I do, as well as to provide a unique perspective as a follower of Christ that also appreciates this community. sometimes mac’s death hits me harder some days and i viewed this album exactly as you did…the dark undertones that if you didn’t understand, sounded bright and hopeful. i’ve never seen a video that did mac so much justice and touched me so much. thank you for this

since the day i discovered mac miller his music spoke to me he had a song that perfectly matched every emotion i had i know a lot of people say this but when he spoke monotonously into a microphone it felt like he was speaking to me idk what im saying but it resonates you know

I became a Mac Miller fan after his passing and I like to analyse and feel the music and art he created por him and for us, you brought me to tears so many times, great video, can't wait for circles because sometimes, I see circles like a Mac's future version talking to the Mac's past versions to find some relief, and if he was swimming in circles, we can see him talking to himself alone in a room trying to figure out a reason to keep going

Good video man. Though i don't think mac was ready to die at all. My perception from the album(s) are that going out like that was the exact way he did NOT want to go. He was found in a praying postion. Swimming to me is an album, serving as a sort of rebirth. As this surely wasn't meant for mac to be his final album. IMO!

Mac spoke/rapped of looking for God and even said that the answers are very possibly in the Bible. It’s possible he knew what was happening in his final moments and was praying as a last effort to make it to a place where he would have peace (heaven)

Absolutely beautiful video. It gave me a deeper understanding to an album that I already thought I had fully cracked, Swimming In Circles is my favourite piece of art ever and it hurts me daily to know it's the last new idea we will ever receive from Mac. 🕊️♾️

iv been listening to loyle carner recently (a british artist) hes got an album called not waving but drowning and thats more of what i think swimming is than an album to show he was hiding his drug usage. from the outside world he looked like he was swimming through life waving at the listeners but in his own world he was drowning slowly. and i think circles added to swimming more shows the drowing instead of waving that swimming was

5:41 I think Good News sounded semi-ethereal, and calm, not fearful or “dark” as a sound in comparison to the lyrics. And as someone who knows personally, I believe it’s because Mac had found that tranquility of finally realizing you are going to let go for good. It’s a disturbingly peacefully beautiful sensation somehow.

I felt this darker undertone on this album that I quite couldn’t put my finger on. This video did a good job on uncovering this type of scenario where things weren’t good at all for Mac. Seeing as he was at a point of no return.. Great breakdown in this video 🫡

This is one of my favorite record definitely my favorite from mac. This vid was beautifully done man. Just found your channel started cause the tyler shooting vid caught my attention. Glad i found your channel, keep up the good work man. Also that bit at the end about life is suffering, I grew up around alot of buddisht monks and mostly what they teach is life is suffering and we must finds peace first within ourselve and help the others around us do the same and if when you cant it is what it is, as long as you try and your mindful of it.

Ima be honest, I don’t agree with the main statement your trying to say, Macs own mother said that he didn’t want to die, his cause of death was ACCIDENTAL OVERDOES, he didn’t know it had fentanyl in the drug which is what killed him, he was trying to move past his demons and get better, he himself in a interview said that he prefer to be a corny white rapper than the guy who’s addicted to drugs and dies from an overdose. That’s just my two cents but let’s keep it chill from now
