This version is haunting. I credit that to the slow tempo, the beautiful organ and pedal string guitar, and the ambiance of the surround sound system. Dylan's voice is also in fine form for '94. I was surprised to see him hitting those high notes so well. I kind of got lost in this performance; before I knew it, 10 minutes had passed.
This was recorded on November 17, 1994, at Sony Music Studios in New York City, shortly before the official session. This tape is a second-generation VHS courtesy of one of the cameramen in the studio. More to come very soon!
Love & Peace,
~SP

Having been in a wheelchair in 1978, the concert hall let me in 1 hour before the doors opened. I watched Dylan and the band rehearse for one hour, while I was the only one there besides the stage hands and other workers. That was excellent day for me.

Actually, '94 is one of the peak vocal years for Bob, especially for the Never-Ending Tour. It continued throughout the years, '95, '96 and '99. Other years until 2007 had their moments too, but not as consistent as the mid to late 90s. Of course, from 2013 started the probably greatest rebirth of the voice yet, and it finally showed on Rough And Rowdy Ways. We hope Bob continues to improve, in the magical way he did it so far.

I am revisiting this Swingin’ because it certainly deserves to be heard again and again! For a rehearsal it’s is such a moving delivery and Bob is so very earnest and convicting! To see the late Bucky Baxter on the pedal steel so in sync with Bob makes it even more precious! The sound is impeccable and everyone in the band enter so unobtrusively. The low droning of Tony Garnier’s bow on the stand up bass, the bright harmony of the organ, and the beautiful guitar strums and picking just fit so well! They should play this video in the churches because it is one of the best sermons which I think has God’s kiss upon it. What a lament! So wonderful that this was recorded! Thanks again Swingin’! ✨🤍✨🕊

....Mind-blowing, SP ...in three ways, 1) the material: it attacks at Our most-cherished conceits, then, and now still, (from Jesus-to-the-H-Bomb), shows/tells What We have 'agreed-to' in order to Justify Our actions (most-especially Our propensity for mass, armed, conflict), each line, each war, he uses the same line, to describe/end the magic of 'justification', by which We attempt to relinquish Our 'responsibility' (for the Death), in effect, (with feigned-innocence) Blaming "God"; but [ GOMS was just one the incredible songs, off of that whole 'Early Storm' of albums (up to & including Blonde on Blonde) that changed Everything, but it has always been one of my personal very-favorites in its artistry, and its meaning; 2) the arrangement: as you pointed-out, he Slowed the whole thing down (almost as much as is possible), which left a lot of 'room' around for the (absolutely World-class) sidemen to fill, and his perfect voice to form & shape, to Hang off the end off the verse; And, then there's 3) the performance: he is inside these lyrics, you can (almost) see him in each & every uniform, he (the soldier ?) down in the bloody mud, slogging, repeating the bloody-mantra, the 'magic incantation'.... yes, as you started with, it Is haunting... & i loved how he threw Judas in, and then, quite directly pinned, Us (and Our 'opinion') Forcing Us to question, "Just what was it ? Was him taking-on the 'ugly job', just because 'somebody' had to, Was That... sinful, evil, selfish, or selfLess ? Was he "on the 'Right Team' "......just because.....SOMEBODY HAD To Do it..... ... giving you "choke-mahalos" (in Hawai'ian, 'Many thanks') for posting this magnificent piece, Swingin, it is truly a Gem to be revered & enjoyed for a long time... peace, love & aloha...

Everything I've heard from Bob Dylan has been a rehearsal. One never-ending rehearsal. He keeps on keeping on and he's trying to try. With a head cold, his croaking reaches new heights. They say it's all in the timing. ;-)

As Nissi has stated, the comments alone shine the light on what an incredible gift to us all Bob Dylan has been to the entire world, back then, and continuing to today...his star has never dimmed one iota...because he's the real deal!..."shoot for the moon...if you miss, you'll still be among the stars!..." Bob Dylan

God. Go ahead, you can write it out. The title of the song is "With GOD On Our Side," after all. Don't be afraid. There shall be no fury leased upon you. God isn't t real, you see, so what harm could there be in saying a word that would represent him/her/it? And if he/she/or it did exist, and you said God, I'm sure he/she/it wouldn't be offended. Get off the old religion, why don't you?

Esse toque do violão dele me emociona.
