When I go between thumb, to hinge to wrist release. My windage point of impact also changes significantly. I've decided to keep it simple.. Just go with one release type.

Luckily we have you Nate!! No other youtuber mention these things. I learned something today! Kind regards Robert. I will stay with my Wise guy release.

I have experienced what you are talking about when it comes to having a wrist strap release type set up for your bow and then trying a hand held thumb release. I have shot the cheap $35 Cabela’s double jaw wrist release for 13.5 years. But with some form of target panic setting in and me slapping a really light trigger I had to get a new release. My cousin let me try both his thumb release which was set really high poundage and a single jaw hook style release. I like both, but bought a single caliper release and a buddy of mine gave me his old back up thumb release. I can tell when I pull it back with the thumb button that I have trouble looking through the peep and my impact point shifts quite a bit. I use the Tru Ball wrist single caliper release now but I wish that I could set the tension higher so that I can squeeze through the trigger like I do my rifle as I push and pull. Thank you for sharing this. Makes a lot of sense even more now.

Thanks, I ran into this exact situation this week. My bow was setup using a Carter Chocolate Addiction. I just ordered and received a Spot Hogg Wise Guy from S&S. I was not prepared for the amount of difference I incurred with the anchor point. Through trial and error I set the index release on the shorter adjustment. Yes, I had to modify my anchor point slightly. I can see where using an index release for the bow set up and then alternating with a thumb release would be a tuning nightmare. Also, my impact with the index release shifted very slightly the right. Great video. Both of the releases are fabulous. I had an opportunity to try something different and I did. God bless

Great content as usual! I've found the difference in POI can be much different even with the same release style. My Spot Hogg Wiseguy hit 4" left of my Scott Recon at 30 yards. The mechanisms are different between the two causing the shift, but there are people out there who wouldn't bother to test them if they switched. 4" is a bunch on an animal.

I replaced my 1996 compound bow in 2013. I still consider my current bow to be new. My bow is set up for the release I use, and I have a brand new release (exactly the same model) in storage (in case I lose it or have a mechanical issue during season). The goal is to master whatever you use. My younger brother has owned three compounds bows in his life time. His first compound was an all wooden Browning compound that split in half on him (lucky he wasn't hurt). He bought a Xi compound to replace it. He's still be shooting that bow, but it was stolen from his car 25 years ago. He used the insurance money to replace it with a Hoyt. I couldn't even tell you the model Hoyt he has. He still kills deer like the rest of us! I don't see myself ever replacing my compound bow. It does everything I want a compound bow to do! When I can't pull it back any more, it will be a crossbow next. Find a release you like & master it!

Just got a UV hinge, but been using a spot hogg whipper snapper for a few years now, I just recently realized this. My first bow is set to 28.5 for a index release, and my other bow was a 30 i think, obsession, so can't change the draw length without getting mods. The hand held release is great for the obsession.

I like to target practice with my hinge release, but even switching to a very similar sized thumb release for hunting season I have to move my sight.
@brennenfitzgerald
@brennenfitzgerald 3 жыл бұрын
Tip, don’t put the release (handheld) that far in to the palm. You want it across the middle knuckles. That allows better string alignment, better/more consistent anchor, and resolved several anchor point issues.

Interesting, I had the opposite when switching to a hinge, I felt very streaches out. It's fine now and I can switch between the two with the same peep height. Always run my wrist strap very short.

My Tru Ball Execution broke a few days back. I saw this as an opportunity to change to a thumb button because i was tired of that thing dangling from my wrist anyway. I'm running into heaps of problems now, exactly as you discribe it. Had to move the peep up about an inch. Now my pin setting doesn't work anymore and sight tape is off too. And I've got a tournament coming up in less then a week. Spare bow isn't sighted in either 😢

It CAN be more complicated but not necessarily so. I solved the issue for me by increasing the d-loop length finished in place by 1/8th". After trial and error for dozens and dozens of shots over about 4 days with Carter Wise Choice thumb and Carter Quickie Plus trigger. On a PSE Evolve 35 the hits and grouping were right on alternating each shot. It may take you some time to figure it out but most likely it can be done.

I used handheld releases for more than 30 years. I did not like the wrist strap style at all. Three years ago I had to switch to the wrist strap because the arthritis in my fingers made using a handheld both inconsistent and not safe in my view. Took quite awhile to feel comfortable not anchoring with the “V” on my jaw and having the knuckle at my earlobe instead. Works fine now, just have to focus more on not punching the trigger.

I’m new to compounds and the handheld was just more natural to pull than a wrist strap so that’s what I went with and Don’t regret it for a second

Shoot a Scott Legacy index strap and a STAN Perfex Longneck Thumb Trigger. 28” draw and they are exactly in this same spot for me. I switch back in forth and use my STAN thumb when I get to punching my index trigger too much. So far everything is working out fine with no adjustments needed. I think the longneck feature is what saved me from having got make any tweaks.

Good to know. I use a Spot Hogg Wise Guy trigger release and recently purchased a Stan Perfex Long Neck HD. Fortunately, I haven’t noticed an issue at my 29” DL. Moving the Peep each time to use a diff release would be a major pain, and would preclude me from switching between releases. The only thing is that I may need to install a longer Dloop to prevent torque twist on the string with the handheld.

I say shoot a quality thumb button with back tension and you never have to worry about switching back and forth. Easy to draw easy to anchor consistently and easy to let down (all once you learn how to use it) but to me it's literally the best of both styles

Or you can take that peep out and shoot with out it. I really like the Easy V site, no peep with a kisser and a nose button. I also use a hand held thumb button release after trying wrist strap releases that felt very unnatural to me. Everyone is different, gotta find what works for you.

Easy fix for people having trouble with releases. Buy the Spot Hogg Wiseguy......never use anything else..... Seriously, I tried a few different releases, and just fell in love with this release. The hair trigger and the BOA strap are it for me.

I switched from index trigger to a thumb button and am hitting low…. I have a high anchor with the index style (index knuckle to earlobe) now I cannot do that with the handheld since I anchor my jaw bone between the index and middle finger… sliding peep didn’t do much for me for adjusting the up and down. Should I slide the whole sight housing down to compensate?

How do decide where to anchor the hand held release? You talked about web of your hand on the jaw, or your finger. I hear other archers say put the lower homes bone in there V of your fingers. Plus I have a big beard, how does that effect it all?

Beards give men the right to pee standing up!!! Beards don't usually pose a problem. I shoot with a long white righteous beard and it doesn't cause any arrow voodoo. As for the hand held release, you want to have proper mechanics so that your draw arm is in the correct plane. At full draw, your bow hand, release hand and elbow should be in line with each other. So you draw length, your loop length, peep height and anchor must all be adjusted to give you the correct fit and feel for proper alignment. Ideally, you want the valley of the string to strike you a little below the corner of the mouth so you can get your good peep sight position. Lower the poundage until you get adjusted to the release and then you can work your poundage back up to where you want it.

Is there a wrist strap available that is compatible with the Carter Wize Choice? The paracord with barrel lock is driving me nuts. I love the release, but the leash just keeps rotating and twisting. I like the wrist strap idea but I was punching the trigger… Any suggestions appreciated.
