Swivel Wheel Caster Bearing Fix

Welcome to The Corner!... Where my fixes are short, simple, and cheap... Just like Pappy
Shout out to "The Shade Tree Fix-it Man" who noticed a bit of play still there with the caster. I must confess after I made this video I removed the caster and used a drive punch to displace more material and tightened up the play. Thank you for the comments!!!

Just what I needed to know. Thanks. I though I could disassemble a castor wheel easily but they are riveted. Is there a reason a circlip is not used to retain the stem instead?

Super cool video. Ive had chair wheel bearings on my mind alot lately. Im rebuilding an antique office chair. It seems that nearly all chair wheel types eventually have bearing issues. How would one prevent the loosening of the bearing race in the first place i wonder.

Thank you Josh for the corner stop, using grease vs oil will prolong the life it works better for lube especially when pressure is present.!!

Do you recommend the drive punch over the chisel to set the rivet with?

A dull chisel is what I used, a combination of both the chisel and drive punch will also work to get material to mushroom over... thanks for the corner stop and drop.!!

A drive punch with a flat face right? Would that be one big enough to hit the whole rivet at once, or a smaller one to go around the edge? Pardon my ignorance, I'm still building up my basic tools and knowledge.

I took apart my spit rim and clean the heck out of them and got them to a nice shine galvanized steel same with the casters

You may want to try vaseline instead of that grease.It's cleaner.

I chiseled and flat punched til I was blue in the face and it didn't get tighter. Glad it worked for you though.
