Your candor is appreciated! I'm still using my FS7 w/18-110 for news gigs. The Sony 18-110 + center scan mode is a great range for ENG. If my math is right this cam (1.5x crop) with this lens= equivalent 27mm-165mm full scan, 54mm-330mm CS crop mode. It's an elegant solution for news that only needs 1080.

Thanks for the details. On the FX9 I jump between "FF 5k" , "S35" and "S16" crop shot to shot with the 28-135mm.

I use the f22c with a small c stand arm and griphead as a receiver with no issues. Have more room to tilt, and the rig is very light.

I was debating heavily between the 200-600 and the 100-400 with a doubler. I ended up going with the 100-400 because it’s roughly the size of a 70-200 and I’ve been super happy with it. I also use Simmod Lens for those 114mm step up rings and push on lens caps. Great products and customer service.

I rented a Sony 100-400 the other day to shoot the finish of a marathon . Surprisingly small and light weight , way smaller than the 200-600, and with s35 crop (fx9 4K) I could "get " 600 anyway still in 4K. I think the answer for the panel lights , well what I did anyway, with Intellytech Mega 6. Put it on a small century arm / knuckle , then into another Knuckle on the stand. Then you can move it away from the stand , if you need to, and angle down. Loved your man in the shorts !

Shortly after getting our F22C's, we bit the bullet and went full Kino conversion -- corrugated plastic sheets, Kupo receiver plate, and Kino lollipop. Was pricey, and you sacrifice portability, but big gains on speed keeping them always built. Like having a lighter, full RGB Kino set now.

I like this concept a lot. I want to replace my two 2:1 gemini with two additional F22C due to the space reduction in the van. Thanks

we have multiple Sony z750 at my internship. and I love them with a hybrid b4 lens. image looks nice, great dynamic range and good in lowlight. and with the c3 portal its never been easer to shoot news

Looks like a great camera. Wish they would cut the price by 10k.
@PyroKalfje4 ай бұрын
@@CrankyCameraman true, but it's worth it. when the station inplements the c3 portal system. the footage is directly uploaded to the station when the recording is finished. US news is very different compare to European news. it's bummer that I am 20 and can't afford z750 but if had the money I would 100% buy a kit. at the station we use also the sony digital wireless mic system. that works perfectly with the camera. Digital systems is so realible that it overrides the analog systems

I just had a fun few days testing a canon 20x b4 with an ibe 1.4x adapter. I absolutely want that range but I couldn’t deal with the softness on the wide end. Especially with the limited crop modes on fx6
@CrankyCameraman4 ай бұрын
Agreed. Those lenses look great on 3 chip cameras for which they are designed. Other than the Sony B4 adapter for the F55 I have not seen an adapter that renders an excellent image.

Such a great town. In 2008 I had an opportunity to relocate to Nashville when I was shooting for Capital Records consistently. My parents were in Chattanooga at the time. One of my long time clients lives in Franklin. Massive missed opportunity.
@jacobdean18584 ай бұрын
We're out of Knoxville so it's one of our major stomping grounds. Everytime we drive back into town there's a whole new building. We just wish Nashville's city planners took a lesson from ATL and put in some proper public transit. It's getting pretty had to navigate anymore.

Are you at all represented by an agent? I'm stuck out here in Bakersfield Ca. Since you're from LA I'm sure you're familiar. It's tough getting work in this central valley market. Just wondering about different angles we could connect with potential clients.
@CrankyCameraman4 ай бұрын
Yes, I’ve done so in the past, exclusive and non exclusive. Most of my agency and end clients are NYC, DC and Chicago based. Even when I was in LA, the work came from the east coast and Chicago.

why do I often see ENG stuff using hard light? do you prefer the look of the for now looking more like sun?

Best option running off batteries with limited time to setup and transport but enough output to match direct sun.

Thoughts on the new Fujinon Duvo 24-300mm?
@CrankyCameraman4 ай бұрын
Perfect range. 12x ENG style in FF. But I think it’s going to be 35-40k USD.
@chrisw4434 ай бұрын
I think using an optical adapter to use a b4 lens on your sony would be easier than getting a whole ENG camera. Outside of that theres the new portable fuji DUVO lenses coming out. But if you did go with a whole new camera instead, blackmagic broadcast g2 is a shoulder version of a pocket 6k with a interchangeable mount. EF/ B4. Plus thats a bigger sensor than any eng camera so you do get some control over DOF and good low light.
@SportFlow4 ай бұрын
You don't see many URSAs used an ENG camera because it has some many inconveniences. First of all it is very heavy, very power hungry, only 2ch of audio, weird button distribution, the SDI out has some color shift, no auto white balance, limited low light sensitivity, small handle, no industry standard codecs like AVC-intra or Sony XAVC and I could go on. It is a good camera for studio with the fiber back but not for the field.
@chrisw4434 ай бұрын
@@SportFlow I used the blackmagic broadcast multiple times, you can use lighter shoulder pads and evfs you shouldnt use the kit BM gives you anyway. The broadcast g2 is awesome. It records prores thats industry standard. So is h.264

Hey David, I know you have the 17-120 and the 28-135 that can do most situations for you. I just thought I would mention I have tested a heap of B4 lenses with optical correcting adapter and without and have results in this playlist if it interests you to see in depth image quality with an optical corrective adapter. kzfaq.info/sun/PLGH1WUKulDW552TrDAl3LlB8NJh2eTcm7&si=aL-aoyVQah8_tkOj I am not sure about your resolution requirements for your ENG work, but a HD lens produces a great image when corrected, even from wide open. SD lenses once corrected I would use them f2.8+ still have a tiny bit of CA as is typical of an SD lens, but sharpness is good. Just thought it was worth mentioning in case it was of interest ✌
