I doubt if a wolf spider would ever attack a fully grown Sydney funnel web spider; for one thing, most predators only take on prey they can easily overpower, except in the most desperate of circumstances. They certainly don’t intentionally engage in death-match type behavior. While it is true that animals may strike at a more powerful animal as a defensive measure, this is pretty much always preceded with a threat display of some sort, like the rattling of a rattlesnake, or rearing up in the case of many spiders. Therefore, in a “face off,” if one of the animals thinks it’s in over its head and adopts a threat display, but the other can comfortably overpower and eat it, then the only chance the less powerful animal has is to run, or better yet avoid the confrontation all together. In this video, I don’t think the wolf spider was trying to engage the funnel web spider at all, I think it just realized too late that it was being hunted, and couldn’t escape in time. All this to say that if the two were to meet out in the open, the results would probably be the same, unless the wolf spider managed to escape; however, the likelihood of the two encountering each other in the open would be comparatively lower, since the wolf spider would be more likely to see it and keep its distance. I could see it happening tho if they ran right into each other as one was rounding a blind corner, or over a point of higher elevation, or something like that.

@@kirksealls1912 wolf spider would see the funnel web much easier in the open. It is much more agile and has a strong enough bite to end the situation. Could end the same, could end differently. Fact of the matter still remains that the funnel web was in its ambush location. There would be no "managed to escape" with the wolf spider if that was its intentions. It is much more capable of fleeing as that is how they live their life.

Wolf spider although not as venomous it too still has a potential fatal venom with big fangs able to kill a mouse. Wolf spiders are still evolving iv seen bigger ones as big as tarantulas able to move as fast as a cat

It depends on the Victim too. The venom is lethal to it's usual prey and to all primates, (all monkeys, apes and humans). But dogs, cats and probably many other mammals just shake it off and are not injured by the venom.

She's not going to be able to climb over and behind the funnel web and flank or get on top of her that easily with the lip of the funnel web's burrow in the way. Speed is useful here for escape, not attack. I do agree that this one dun' fucked up, but even if it didn't the funnel web still effectively neutralizes its speed in terms of attacking by positioning itself like that. The wolf can run away, but in a situation where they fight funnel web had home field advantage here.
