Don't know if anyone has been watching Sylvain Guintoli on KZfaq recently. He's doing a load of clips and tips to improve track day riding and they're well worth watching. Anyway he did one recently ( • 🇬🇧GO FASTER ON TRACK W... ) and asked people to send in footage of their riding for him to analyse. So I thought I'd have a go at sending him the video of my Donington track day that I did on my road going Gixxer last month. Wasn't expecting to get any response but he's just sent me this. What an absolute legend..

You just can not buy this level of advice as a "normal" working man. I think Sylvain is a dynamo type bloke,just burning with energy and we are lucky enough at this stage of the youtube channel to benefit from his experience and expertise.

How much is it to ride at donington?

@@Anteater23 It used to be about £170 but costs have risen recently. I'm going back in September with No Limits and the cost was £211 for a day which gives you 7 x 20 minute sessions.

Awesome! You'd pay big money for tailored advice like that, let alone from a Moto GP rider. I'd hate to send him one of my clips, he'd probably wear out his pause button interrupting with comments :)

The consummate gentleman, passionate about his craft and one hell of a racer. 👍 definitely one of my favorite guys to watch and listen to on two wheels. Dude, you just got some of the best racing advice you'll probably ever receive from one of the most experienced, skilled guys on a motorcycle! How great is that?! Awesome. 😃

Sylvain first off I want to say I’m a huge fan and congratulations on making Suzuki a MotoGP champion with your development. Stu Sne true, Sylvain is a rare case because he’s still racing. Colin Edwards famously started the Texas Tornado Bootcamp before he retired, and guys like Nicky Hayden and Ben Spies were known to show up there as guest instructors. Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo have also been guest instructors, along with others. And I can think of other examples. But I’ll tell you what... a top class racer who is retired is still a top class rider, and there are some seriously fast guys out there giving lessons.

Great video, thanks for posting. I was surprised at how many times Sylvain suggests carrying less corner speed, in order to set a better lap time. I guess that sometimes you need to go slow to go fast. Fascinating stuff.

Hi Nick, it takes some getting your head around but makes sense that the sooner you get turned and upright the harder you can accelerate. Just easier said than done. Going back in September and hopefully I’ll be able to knock a bit more time off 👍

Went back to Donington in early September. Unfortunately there was a bit of oil on the track on the apex of Redgate which made things tricky but managed to get down to a 1.46 near the end of the day. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jrGdoqtkuL6tlac.html

Going back on the 23/6/2020 with slicks and tyre warmers. With the combination of these and Sylvain’s tips, if I don’t get into the late 1.49’s then I’m giving up :-)

Ian Fox no need to make excuses bud. You did great out there! I would say the faults he picked up on were very minor and can be easy corrected next time out. It’s far too easy to criticise from the comfort of your arm chair, it’s completely different out on track. People forget it’s all about having fun, not smashing lap times. 👍
